The first time I heard this song I suddenly stopped what I was doing, and just sat there…blown away by Roy’s voice, and the words, and music just took me somewhere far away for a few minutes. Those of you that were affected will understand what I am trying to convey. There simply aren’t words to describe a feeling, so overwhelming! Jeff Lynne, and Roy Orbinson together created magic! For Jeff to write such a song I wonder if he had this happen to him during his life….it is so personal….😢

So did I the song was awesome on the mystery girl album but then I heard it with the philharmonic orchestra and it got even better...
I love Roy Orbison I have loved his music since I was 5 years old I'm now 40 and I still love it now always will!!!
The first ever music I was given for my birthday when I was 8 years old was a tape deck getto blaster and the mystery girl album on cassette and then collected every single album compilation and song that Roy Orbison ever recorded I just wish I could of just saw him perform once live in concert that would of made my life complete but he died 4 months before he was coming on a tour of Australia I was so excited about going to see him live but then mum told me the bad news that he died of a massive heart attack and that absolutely crushed me I mourned his death for about 4 years he was just so awesome his voice was something not of this world he was certainly one of a kind and the greatest singer ever to walk this earth and was taken far too soon...
If he had of lived until he was 85 or something imagine what he could of achieved and the awesome music that he would of made in his later life his voice would of matured again and he would have released some absolute magical songs with his later life experiences

I first heard this song when Michael Bolton sang it, then heard this version. No offense to Michael, but there’s no comparison! Roy put quiet passion and longing in this song. It’s not about hitting the high notes - it’s about the emotion. When I played this song for an ex, he said it’s a song about breaking up. I said no, it’s about finding beauty in a relationship, even if it doesn’t work out the way you want. It’s not about regret, it’s about appreciating what you had. No one can convey so much emotion in such a short amount of time like Roy.

I had the privilege of seeing Roy in the most surprising of environments. On a misty summer’s evening on St Angelo airdrome outside Enniskillen Co Fermanagh he did a gig for the local rugby club to help them buy a new playing field etc. He flew in on a private but simple jet to perform on a flat backed lorry masquerading as a stage. Despite a poor turnout due to the poor weather he did a regular set which included his unforgettable hit “Pretty Woman” which had charted that week. A total professional and so unassuming. He will be remembered for decades to come and find new appreciative audiences with each of those passing decades. Rest well Roy you have left us a glorious musical legacy.

This song, combined with his songs "Love Hurts", "Crying" and "It's Over" , I believe fully expresses the agony of loss and the depths of true love turning loose. Thus, it's the greatest love of all, the love which sacrifices self. May God bless and comfort all those who suffer loss, there is so much agony in this world. Hearing this song, I literally have felt the wounded heart and the reaching out into the emptiness of pain. And, singing and listening to this song is a bit of expression from Roy through our own hearts, letting go as only Roy Orbison can do.

WOW, My God......Are there words out there to justify what beauty this song is. Roy had a 4 octave rang - I forgot how tremendous his voice was until putting this song on. This arrangement is STUNNING - Passion, truly what I view music to be - Seamless combination of voice and instrument - A little bit of Paradise, A little bit of Heaven - And right down here on Earth. I'm so grateful.

Jan, I honestly believe that some of us would need to have really, truly, deeply loved and then to have felt that lost like every bit of our soul is burnt a million times over before our heart could evolve into one that is so beautiful and finally able to receive the kind of love even more superior and incomparable to the one that was once lost, and the one that's truly right and meant for us, and the one that will truly last forever. Hope you have found, or will find, yours someday, no worries and no rush, it's that thing I believe lies in the "divine timing", keep faith, mate!

What makes this song so sad and haunting is knowing the tragedy of Roy’s life.
His first wife died in a motorcycle accident, riding with him.
Two years later his two young sons died in a fire.
Still, the consummate artist, he brought great music and performances for years after.
