That is Awesome, caring for and building a squirrel house for him, hope he will find a mate soon. You could make right angle pieces to put on to strengthen the box. Think about placing a water, container for those hot days too. Can use the hole cutter saw, on an edge to make hole slightly bigger; use sandpaper to make side edges smooth. Yes a front deck will be great for him and his mate!
I raised a Raven last summer. Chose to stay around and is never caged, clipped or tethered . Special Experience and Blessing of my lifetime! A few of our interactions are posted.
Hey Ms Heidi.. Thank you for sharing your absolutely precious friend Woody the squirrel. Really your very lucky to have such a precious relationship w/your rescued squirrel. We had one in the backyard. He'd eat peanuts out of our hand. Animals are so beautiful. And when we get to have special relationships w/them. It shows another side of them. When they have some tamedness to them. It doesn't happen often, so i think that's why it makes it so special. So its awesome that you've taken the time to share this experience. Thanks again Ms Heidi..😍❤️🔥 I hope little Woody has grown comfortable in his new habitat/house. Please let us know how he's doing. God bless! ✨🙏🏼✝️🙏🏼✨💞🐿️💞
I was a carpenter for 30 years. I have never seen a sawzall used like that. LMAO. Thanks it did give me a good chuckle. Nice job. That Doohickey is called a holesaw. Also it would’ve fit into your impact driver.
You are the squirrel whisperer! Nothing prettier than a woman smiling & laughing when she catches a fish! I bet that man at the hardware store wouldn't let ME borrow his hole saw/drill!
You can give him strips of material to make the nest more comfortable. For what you have you did a great job. You should've used 1x1 strips in the corners to screw to to make the structure stronger, just attach some branches across the front for him to climb in and out of it
I like your squirrel never saw anyone train one. But I have to say you are absolutely beautiful to watch gorgeous young lady. Always doing something!!!
Love your podcast. 67 years old and disabled. Can't hunt or fish anymore but I sure do enjoy watching you do it. Keep it up. Making this old fart smile daily
OMG Heidi that was so very entertaining to watch!! He's going to be great. My wife and I went yesterday to Tractor Supply and Got bags of peanuts and dry corn to feed our squirrels and chipmunks!! Got new Humming bird feeders to add to others. Have three birdbaths and 7 bird houses now. We love to sit under the pergola on our back deck and watch all the activity. So happy for Woody he's got a good life now. God Bless you and Andy as always may each day be a special day for Y'all!!
i love how he was taking the branches from you and using them for his nest. My prairie dog used to do that with tissues and paper towel rolls, she'd snag several tissues off the end table, stuff her mouth and bring them to her cage, it was so cool seeing her make her nests. Rodents are such fun pets! Like the video, keep em coming.
OMG your so sweet and kind, for your little friend.. He's so awesome and he appreciates what you've done for him.. I just adore how he reacts with you, so playful, and he took right to building a nest inside. He understood that it was for him...... You have such a kind heart and gentle soul. God bless you my dear young lady !! ❤❤❤😊 Doug .
Someone posted as you, to lead me to telegram.... I'm sure it wasn't you Lil red, just wanted you to know !! I've seen that a lot in the comment section... People need to get a life instead of messing with others like that !!! I watch and enjoy all of your content, thank you and God bless you !!
Heidi & Woody, nice to see your love for the little guy. Hes so kool , as are you. Love and respect for U . You are the total outdoors Lady. I wish U much happiness and to always be safe. Cheers from Canada.
Kind of a touching story line honesty. Your spiritual connection to this little animal that gets little respect in nature. A credit to you Heidi. I never knew squirrels could be so smart and also so careful around humans. I would never touch one for example. I admit to be in a bit of awe about the whole thing including when you were providing branches which the squirrel knew to take in his new house. I did build a pretty fancy dog house a few years ago for my German, Weimaraner...a very tall and majestic dog that would stop traffic when I walked her. While I was building it, the dog was by my side and seemed to know exactly what I was doing and when complete walked right in. This dog wouldn't fit in a standard size dog house. If I were to make one suggestion, it would be make the opening a bit bigger...chance the squirrel may get a bit bigger as well. Educational and of course I would be remiss if I didn't mention your beauty as well which no doubt is enhanced by your relationship with nature.
Very kind movie. You did a good deal and the nature will give you back your kindness. I really like your channel. You are good guys and very beautiful both. You are good people
From someone who owns the "correct" tools to build this. Nice work. I've done this type of work because I didn't want to add 3-5 extra hours setting up the "proper" tools to make it perfect when no person or animal was going to care one bit about the difference. One of the things I enjoy with your channel is that you've done a lot of things I've never tried, and I've done things you are trying for the first time. I'm not going to put you down for trying new things and how it ends up. Stuff that is old knowledge for me is new to you, and stuff that is common to you is new and weird to me. I love that you share your knowledge and I hope one day I can offer some to you that is valuable in return.
Absolutely LOVED this project! You've done really well with him Heidi and he looks PROPERLY happy! Watching him jump around on n off your hand doing tricks really funny.. You can tell he appreciates it and that he has a special bond with you.. Great Job! 👍🏴🇬🇧
Very nice! Woody is happy with his new home and has people that care . What a plus in the adventures of Woody .Thank you for sharing these special moments in your adventures Heidi.!
building something you've never built is a learning process. you did well with the tools you had a hand. the saws all blade can go both ways depending on needs. you can attach 1x1" sticks across the bottom floor to hold up the wire mesh. or screw a piece of plywood under it, having it overhang like the roof just big enough for him to sit/lay down.
I had a 22 pound beef tbone roast. My carpenter skills took over and I had an audience. I'll never put live it. I had meat flying everywhere I used a sawsall just like you. But you actually succeeded. And I cut into my table. 37 years as a carpenter. I pains me to admit it to you. Well done lol😂❤
Nice job! Yeah, I think the adding a small wood deck around it with 3 pieces would be great! He wouldn't have to worry about the sharp wires poking him from where you guys cut the mesh. Again, nice job!
You did good and you idea on putting the wood on the outside is right, but you are learning without any help. Trial and error. It is so cool. Woody mansion.
Omg gosh this video is so heart warming. Should get woody some cotton and for the front deck peice , I would put a peice of wood instead of the wired screen. Try to get rid of any sharp corners . But over all he loves his house and I think he'd love a peice of clothing from you to put in there for sent . I can tell that squirrel loves you. Good job on everything .
aside from the tools you picked up from home depot Red, you should've also picked up Miguel from out front, and just said "casa chico" while pointing to the squirrels. He would've known what to do.
You did brilliantly, I like how you give everything a go. Girl after my own heart, I love DIY, have all my own tools, i usually wing it, as like you dont really know what im doing. built my own hedgehogs house extension with over hang feed area. All I'd say to woodys home is maybe a hinged roof for easy cleaning or to check inside. The mesh floor is good idea for water, pee etc, but will be very draughty, and cold so may need to re think that.
Hello Heidi, my only suggestion is whenever using a saw while cutting wood wear clear goggles for eye protection...also make that same nest or house but the hole bigger attach to a tree in and around your pond if you have wood ducks...great job Heidi
Heidi, Dewalt makes a set of drill bits with the hexagonal shank for your impact drill. (go to Lowe's) If you put some cedar shavings in Woody's house, it'll keep fleas off your baby. Offer Woody some beach or oak leaves for his nest. Please keep an eye out for hawks, they'll gladly swoop down and snatch your buddy for their dinner. I hope Woody lives a long and happy life. 🐿😘 👍

My father back when he was a teenager, him and his sister found a squirrel in there yard, but noticed it was dragging it's back two legs. Apparently, the squirrel's hind legs were paralyzed. It was so friendly, they took him in as one of the family. He was so playful and full of life. When grandma used to do laundry, he would always sit on the pile if clothes and watch her do the laundry. They had him for 1.5 years. He ended up getting sick because the hind legs were beginning to die but for the time he had, he had an amazing family to care for him. ❤🥰💚
Thanks for sharing this interesting video. No reason to be critical of you and your work, it doesn't take perfection to meet the need! You looked so stunning with your hair up, no need to take it down to finish the video 🎉 you're a jewel 💎 God bless you for your caring 💜
The one you built could be used temporarily until you build him a better home....I would build him a tree house how cool would that be. And try to add that squirrel bench that you had, the one with the umbrella. Try making a ladder from the deck to the entrance. Just google Squirrel houses and you could build him a better home. So CUTE!
I have raised several squirrels named all of them Fred. After they get old enough they finally run off to the woods. Sometimes they come back be sitting on the porch when they see you run up your leg and sit on your shoulder.
That is Awesome, caring for and building a squirrel house for him, hope he will find a mate soon.

The entry opening must therefore not be larger so that He is protected from birds of prey or other larger animals, such as a marten or cats!
