I'd suggest that you look for 'worsted' or use an online yarn shop. They'll be able to answer any questions as they'll be smaller businesses. Happy knitting!
This was so well explained and Informative!! I have a very good friend from Norfolk, she stays in your Winter time in South Africa, where I am from! Now I know what she can bring me for Christmas! Always wondered what Worsted yarn was!! Thank goodness for google and through google I found your Tutorial! You have a new Fan! Regards from South Africa! 🥰❤️🧶🇿🇦
That was very helpful! Thank you. I am actually a crocheter and it really helps to learn the history behind the materials one uses, as you know. I want to be an informed business woman. So thank you, and beautiful intro and outro music! Makes me think of all things Jane Austen haha.
Glad it was helpful! It's useful, for sure, to find out more about the materials you use. So many stories have been lost and mixed up when it comes to these ancient arts, so it's tough to decipher some of it. Happy knitting! 🧶
I thought it was an american description of wool like they call one fingering yarn havent looked to see our comparison but i assume 3 or 4ply x but great to know i could possible adapt an aran pattern for worsted yarn ty xx
Hi Sharan, It’s ended up as a bit of a mixed-up word. So it took me ages to finally get my head around it. Now it’s more mainstream we need to be aware of what it is. It’s certainly adaptable for Aran patterns. Just double-check the needle size and stitch count. Happy knitting 🧶
The thickness doesn't really matter, it's the combination of many things including plies, fibres that make up the yarn, looseness or tightness of stitches as you knit, even which breed of sheep the wool is taken from. Basically most yarn will pill to a certain extent, some will pill less, but it's very difficult to predict. Welcome to the world of knitting yarn! LOL Happy knitting 🧶
@@KnitWithHannah I bought the brand Patons classic wool worsted 100% pure new wool made in India. I am hoping it doesn’t pill to make an Afghan. The thickness of the yarn is 4 . I am worried that is going to pill overtime. Thanks for your replies.
This de-pilling video might ease your worries - if you watch this before it happens, you'll realise it may not be such a pain if it does pil: ruclips.net/video/qZHsZvEYRWs/видео.htmlsi=SwwtRCPgzsno8qJW
You’ll be able to find patterns for most thicknesses of yarn. I’d check with the yarn manufacturers/creators for patterns that match the yarn. Happy knitting 🧶
It’s a knitting word that can mean a lot of things. If you’re looking for the yarn thickness look at stitch count and needle size suggestions primarily. Happy knitting 🧶
Thank you!! You are the very first person who’s been able to explain the difference between yarn types in a way I can actually understand!
Glad it was helpful! Happy knitting, Danielle. 🧶

Hi! We’ll let you watch! 😂 yarn addicts stick together, right?! 🧶
THANK YOU FOR THIS... Can I use worsted weight yarn for dish cloths and wash cloths? Will they shrink because they're wool?
Yes you can, you'll find this weight of yarn in cottons too - such as Wool And The Gang's Shiny Happy Cotton.
@@KnitWithHannah Thank you, Hannah.
