As a Black woman in her late 20s, I was nothing short of insulted by Youthforia for so many reasons. My mother is a Darker skinned BW whose still getting into makeup, and I told her to stay the hell away from that beauty brand. The history behind Blackface - and, more recently, "Blackfishing" - is incredibly racist and dehumanizing. My skin tone is in the middle of the brown spectrum and gets slightly darker and lighter with the seasons, and I STILL have issues finding my proper foundation & concealer shades. This was inexcusable and insulting, PERIOD. Thanks SO much for talking about this. LOVE you guys. ❤👏🏾💄
What’s incredibly insulting is that there are delusional people out there who think there is somebody in the world who is literally pitch black. They keep trying to gaslight Golloria even though they completely miss that even the darkest of people have an undertone. They just put tar in a bottle and was like "well damn I’ll give you dark if you’re so pissed about our shit shade range." I saw someone else mix the darkest shade with the lightest shade and it turned grey.
I am a fair skinned white woman and was looking forward to trying shade 120 or 180 in the skin tint. Not anymore. I can't imagine how a person of color must feel. Why didn't Youthforia come out with shade 000, a pure white? Because there isn't a human on earth that would be the same shade as White-Out, just like there isn't a human being with pure black skin. What were they thinking?!? I feel like Youthforia's shade 600 has pushed the beauty industry's progress back about 20 years. This is devastating.

@linseylinsey none of the Youthforia skin tints were intended to be "mixers". Someone at Youthforia formulated shade 600 as an honest to goodness skin tint. Someone at Youthforia conceptualized and green-lit this shade as a suitable shade for deep dark skin. Someone at Youthforia produced this shade. The founder herself tested this shade. Finally, someone at Youthforia approved this shade to be produced en masse, and marketed it to the public. Youthforia's actions were very intentional. THAT'S the problem.

This was an excellent discussion about shade range issues. I helped a good friend in her 40s get into makeup for the first time- she always thought makeup was not for her, because she tried at like 18 to learn makeup and every makeup counter said, we have no shades for you. She was so ashamed she never attempted again until recently. This is an issue that truly affects people.

My mother-in-law had the same problem!!! She’s 60 and still doesn’t feel like face makeup like foundation is made for her 💔

And suddenly Kevin mentions Johnny's lower eyeliner and gives me a much neede AHA! moment. Yes, that lower eyeliner looks SO good on you, Johnny! It's so subtle, but just adds that little bit of oomph! that enhances your natural good looks perfectly.

I feel like OreBella and Bella Hadid’s thought behind these scents are very influential from her middle eastern background. The spicy with more depth, earthy type scents is very much common in middle, southern, and eastern Asian cultures! I love hearing this because I’ve been extremely interested after reading the scent profiles and had ordered Fire but it hasn’t been delivered yet!
My Stepmom actually went on the Drew Berrymore show (The cat at her work was in a book for Purina cat food). But the primary thing my stepmom said about it was that Drew just seemed out of touch, like she wasn't mean or anything, but she has no real concept of personal space or anything. Her pets just ran around that stage as they pleased, and the second the segment was filmed they were out the door.
Granted this is only one story but it definitely lines up with what I'm seeing other people say

Black woman here. I think I’ve finally the perfect foundation for me after 20+ years of looking. It’s Fenty. Of course it is.
Anyway, it took 3 different Sephora employees to help me find the shade because every brand was too orange or too gray. 🤷🏾♀️
If you have a warm undertone, have you tried any of Bobbi Browns foundations? She was one of the first brands to have an inclusive shade range when that wasn't the norm, and even said it was shameful that other brands didn't make shades for POC, and I find her shades are the most "human," if that makes sense? She was the first ever foundation that perfectly matched me, and I'm not lying when I said I was almost in tears, I was so happy. 20+ years hating doing makeup because my base would always be too orange or yellow, but finally I found a base that would practically disappear into my skin.
Like Melissa McMarthy, I lost a lot of weight because I was pre-diabetic. I thought I was succeeding, but any large quantity of unexplained weight loss can actually be a sign you’re not well.
My ex lost SO much weight when he became diabetic. He was completely emaciated. He did hate being on insulin because it made him feel sluggish and he became obese instead.
And already pledged my money to the Patreon.

yeah it also says SOOOOO much that rem beauty has 'artistry' concealer shades, but NOT for their foundation shades. Golloria has talked about how she uses the rem black concealer to darken her contour in the summer when her fenty isn't dark enough. Absolutely that has a use. But everyone should know that a full base black has no use!

I am very intrigue with Bella's new fragrance line but at the same time very concern. I know that essential oils makes your skin very sensitive to sunlight. I remember a few years ago there was a big wave of people having huge blisters on their neck and arms due to where they put the essential oil. I wonder if they tested it out to make sure that would not happened.

I teach a beginning painting class and I tell my students not to even buy black paint because things from the natural world are complex and even what we perceive as black isn’t actually black… it’s almost like the creator (and anyone defending this foundation shade) forgot that all humans have blood in their veins.

Ituink Drew is super sweet but I can’t watch her host. It’s so cringe . I just can’t watch her get all up on the guests and gush over everyone. I know she’s just super sweet but I get second hand embarrassment when I see that.

Youthforia doesn’t even have people of color on there team. I was previously tempted to apply for a marketing position they had on LinkedIn last year but didn’t see them being diverse at all. I’d assume Mark and any other investors might pull their investment money. Because they don’t want to deal with a sinking ship. Love hearing and watching your videos guys❤

The asian foundation market is just as exclusionary as western foundations. There are dark skinned asians that are excluded because of how much asian cultures promote white skin as the beauty standard.

Hi Johnny and Kevin! I'm sure there was no harm meant but Asian people ARE people of color! What you might have meant by saying " alot of these people have never seen a person of color" referring to people in East Asia is "a lot of these people have never seen skin more melanated than themselves" which is a major issue in East Asian beauty. A lot of Chinese/Korean/Japanese people can't wear the brands being made in their own countries! But please be mindful of using language that insinuates that Asian people are not POC. There are more than just super pale East Asians in Asia and generalizing it all as a separate, perhaps white adjacent, population doesn't help the plight of Asians being used as model minorities against other POC. Again, I know no harm was likely meant, but racial politics tends to focus on the two extreme ends of the melanin spectrum.
Literally the only other time I've seen pure black foundation was from an indie brand making costume/cosplay makeup meant to replace face paint for lighter longer more comfortable wear at festivals and conventions, so it was a rainbow color range + pure white and pure black for mixing. Thats the only situation in which its remotely acceptable imo- for a general makeup brand to fuck up this badly? Ghastly.
Like the only good thing to come out of this mess has been all the buzz for Golloria cause she deserves the credit and praise.
And can I just say, I've seen so many people talking about this situation now, but your chemistry brings such a new level to these discussions. At this point, I just wait to watch commentary about breaking makeup news from this pod or Robert Welsh instead of snooping about it, cause I can expect both an accurate and nuanced view but also great and unique presentation.
Also a little shout out for how tactile you guys can be on the pod- makes it worth watching instead of just throwing it up for bg noise. It cracks me up and also makes me feel seen as a tactile affectionate gay idiot

Since this is part of her "schtick" I wonder how comfortable someone would be not participating? It's a similar power dynamic issue we talk about a lot with sexual harassment. Lastly, I do agree with Johnny that this isn't something we'd see with a male VP. Kamala is an educated, accomplished woman, why is she being asked to be the country's "mommy?" Hi guys, love you so much. Dis you check Elizabeth Arden’s flawless finish foundation. The darkest shade is 660c. Also they have cream foundations and for my opinion they have good deep color range.
