Great review, thanks Matthew. I agree with your observations, especially the comments on the vinyl EQ. My go to stereo remains the original CD (Columbia Master Sound version). I also have the '92 vinyl, but I feel there is no sound improvement as it's origins are presumably digital. FYI, the A.P. SACD/DSD stereo (which your bluray & A.P. vinyl is probably sourced form) fills out the room a little more and has a bit more clarity and kick, but is no massive leap over the '92 CD. The SACD and bluray also have a 5.1 mix which sounds truly amazing, and anyone who loves this album should try to hear it sometime.

Thank you, Matt. Your experience makes me feel even better about canceling my preorder for the 4LP set.

Seam splits is why I very rarely buy records in the post now.
I think the manufacturers need to realise that most of record are posted these days and need to pack with the vinyl outside of the sleeve, or just inside the gatefold to protect the vinyl.
Great video by the way, I'm so glad I didn't buy and you have saved me £150.

Another great video as usual Matthew. I really like your unboxing videos where you go over the content. I have to thank you for taking the financial hit to buy this stuff. You make it so we don't have to waste money on garbage like this. This isn't even really a box set. It's just a reissue of the album on vinyl with a new cover.

Thank you, I have already started the process of sending this back. Like the Harrison Box set I do not expect Damage.

What a waste of money for that box set, just like the dark side 50th box set. What is going on with Pink Floyd and the record companies. The animals remix was a huge success, great remix, but the vinyl came scratched and scuffed for a lot of people. But the way they did the deluxe set for animals was great and I think they should do more of their releases in that form. Amused to death could have been released in a way better form, with a booklet and maybe some memorabilia even a remastered cd and other media options with different mixes of the album. Maybe they could have remastered the original mix and reissued that on vinyl and cd. But your video was great though and very informative and enjoyable, would really like more Pink Floyd related content.🤟🏻👍🏻

Well I guess this is more of a 'Specialist' releases and Analogue Productions do this type of Set for lots of albums and the do have a big following. Mostly by the US market for FM radio hit albums & Yacht Rock! And thus not really in the Cannon of floyd releases.

Yeah great video Matt - my favourite RW LP and like you I acquired the CD 💿 on it’s original release and I also have the updated CD version - it’s a brilliant album and the great late Jeff Beck’s guitar lines on this record are just sublime. This new vinyl release seems very expensive!!

That blue ray we have is the way to go. If you going to do vinyl that 2015 is the best value. Like he said

Amused To Death is an album I've owned on pretty much every format it's ever been available on. I bought this 4 LP edition even though I don't currently own a turntable lol. Other than some changes I don't love to The Bravery of Being Out Of Range, I like the newest mix. When I get back into buying a turntable, the 4 LP pressing of this album is the first thing I plan to spin.

    Thanks for your thoughts.
I do think that that album was one of the finest recordings of the 20th century. Mr Guthrie has the best ears on the planet.

Wasnt there a gold CD version a few years after 92, that was remastered as well?

Seem split on new expensive records is annoying. I am through with buying new vinyl. I will occasionally by second hand thrift store cheap records, but I am really back to cds which were of my youth and they sound great, are cheap, almost free second hand. Sooner or later they will be cool again and the price will rise.

The shop I bought it from were VERY fair. they said this is a common problem with this album and they offered either a 30% discount to keep it or full refund to send it back. I have bought from this shop before and I will buy from them again.

Sounds great. I would have kept the records with that discount. O bet you did? Playing records I like. Esoecially two side records. Double albums? Nope. Exile on main street. Amused to death. Blonde on blonde. The Hendrix double album. I have alm of these on cd and Lp. The cds are all on one disc and sound great. I can sit through the entire albums instead of getting up four times per album. I really like the sound of vinyl, but again. Only worth the hassel when an Lp album is on one record.

@@eirikrdberg1161 No I sent it back. If I am going to play this album, you know what the Blu Ray as far as I am concerned is the best way to paly this version.

@@MatthewNorthMusic I think cds sound better than everything. Especially before the loudness wars. Kills atmos and bluray.

If I bought this I would’t play it. The cd from 92 and 15 are fine. I do own two copies of the Lp. Only play the cds.

Do you prefer the original 92 cd or the more recent 15 version?

    • @eirikrdberg1161
      @eirikrdberg1161 Год назад +1

Good question. I bought the 92 when it came out. Waited two years for it. It blew me away. Such a giant project of an album. I was never displeased about it in any way. When I Heard it was being remixed I thought that was cool. I love remixes of old classics. Nobody is taking the original away from me. I can choose. Initially I preferred the remix. Now, eight years after the remix was released I think it is a toss up. I find myself playing the 92 version lately after having played the 2015 remix many years. I think I’d stick to tve original 1992 if I had to pick one.

The original CD was superb..... don't give hundreds to the marketing deceivers. Every box set/release is just a money-making grift by the labels!
