Although their hard products may no longer lead the market, Cathay continues to be recognised as one of the world’s best airlines. CX is v disappointing nowadays - cabin crew are v understaffed (not their fault), cabins are old and the price remains sky high. I have been using up CX miles for trips - when i have to pay I go Qatar long haul and switched to Thai for my frequent breaks in Thailand. I've lived in HK nearly 20 years and its a shame to see how much CX has fallen.
Great video roy, I just did the Spirit of queensland from cairns to brisbane after your video made me excited to experience it and it was awesome. I'm lucky enough to get this exact flight from singpare to hong kong buisness class every now and then for work, while its nothing special it sure is a nice few hours in the sky!

Cathay's food has been average to mediocre for at least 15 years!
One of the things I dread about Hong Kong is how long it takes to taxi out and in from the runway. The airport is so big, it's simply a nightmare!

I recently flew Cathay Economy and the meal was pretty good! But probably a similar level to your meal. Dissapointing for business but was great for economy!
Agreed! I usually fly in Cathay economy and found their food to be fantastic.
I feel like the business class food is basically economy food with a bigger portion, which makes it subpar compared to business food on other airlines 😅

I guess Rory is pretty much like most travelers from HK, hoping for the best for cx… I’ve been using its business 4-5 times a year since and after covid with no expectation whatsoever until 2 months ago when my cx flight broke down and I was put into a direct flight from SIN-TPE in CI. That was overall a wonderful flight!

We fly Cathay Pacific business class from Manchester to Manila at least once per year, the long haul flight to HK is perfect , food and staff but from HK to Manila it’s usually an old B777 and the food is similar to what you received. But as we are usually to tired to eat we don’t take much notice and it’s only a short flight

Great review as always Rory, excellent summary on the meal being fine but not presented well. I do feel that in the old days Cathay, Singapore and Thai were all at the same level. Now Singapore is ahead. Both ANA and JAL also better, especially in the lower classes.
It's crazy to think that in one airport you took a 10 minute shuttle and 15 minute taxi ... that's 25 mins in total. Can you imagine where you could have visited in that time on an old fashioned train?

Great review Rory, I'm little disappointed about the food service and presentation. I would of been quite verbal after paying a premium price for such a low quality meal service. To say they've run out of your selected main dish, is simply not good enough.
I last travelled Cathay business class in 2018 prior to Covid. It was quite good at that time but I believe they’ve been through bad times since and many things have suffered, not just from covid but also all the other issues… China. I know many Aussies refuse to travel to HK or via HK these days in sympathetic protest and of course the fear of arbitrary detainment.

I think it is unfair and impolite to make such a comment on Rory's channel. Rory puts much work into his reviews and even suffers the indignity of business class just to show us what most of us will never experience. Politics has no place on this channel.

Hi, as I mentioned in my last video, this flight was part of my itinerary that I booked with Finnair, Istanbul - Helsinki - Singapore - Hong Kong. Cathay and Finnair are partners, so i could only fly Cathay on the sin-hkg leg.

Great review- Cathay is hopeless! I judge an airline by the desert they serve. Ice cream is the most unimaginative dessert which reflects how serious they are about the food! That new CEO - he doesn’t look like one whichever way I look at him - so don’t expect too much out of such an ordinary man! If you are paying this money why didn’t you fly Singapore instead?!

Hi, The summary in the end, I was comparing Cathay as a whole. Whether it’s the business class that I flew on or its dated first class on the 777s, their current hard products are a bit mediocre imo. 😊

Feels like you're starting to become a bit less appreciative with your flights these days. You're getting judgemental at the most basic stuff like how nicely your food was plated and how wide your seat is when you still have all that space and legroom. Will you start going down the route of Trek Trendy and complain that you didn't get caviar or Moet over Dom?
If you pay that much extra for business class you expect a better service / meals !

I do adjust my standards and expectations based on the airline I fly with. As Cathay is one of the few five-star airlines in the world, and I always find the food in its economy class to be fantastic, perhaps I set my expectations too high. This was my first time flying in their business class, and I just feel like the main course I received was basically an economy class meal in a larger portion.
When flying international business class, most airlines serve the food on a plate, like in a fine dining restaurant, rather than in a rectangular baking dish, which is typical in premium economy. The food on my Finnair flight, for example, looked very pleasing.
Many airlines' business class products offer lie-flat beds these days, but due to different seating configurations, some have a narrow foot nook, and some seats could be a bit short for tall people. So, I believe factors like seat width and bed length are always worth mentioning. I don’t think my viewers want to see sugarcoated videos, so I do aim to be neutral and include both positive and negative aspects that I experienced in my reviews. 😊
