Dr. John L. Burns Jr. MD is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and President of the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute, one of the largest plastic surgery group practices in the United States. Dr. Burns is also the Medical Director for the EpiCentre Skin Care and Laser Center, a world renowned medical spa. Dr. Burns dedicates his practice to aesthetic or cosmetic plastic surgery.
Dr. Burns was raised in Dallas and graduated from Highland Park High School. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Burns graduated summa cum laude from the Research Honors Program at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). As one of the top students, he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honorary society. He stayed at the University of Texas Medical Branch where he completed a residency in Plastic Surgery. In addition, he completed training in micro-vascular surgery at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas and cosmetic surgery in Miami, Florida. Following his plastic surgery training, Dr. Burns became the first plastic surgeon in the United States to complete a fellowship in laser surgery at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
His leadership in the field is evidenced by the numerous peer reviewed articles and book chapters he has published on the subject of plastic and laser surgery. Dr. Burns is a frequent speaker at national meetings and is active in clinical research studies focusing on new laser technology. Dr. Burns has been recognized by D magazine as one of the best plastic surgeons in Dallas.
Dr. Burns maintains an active interest in academic plastic surgery as a Clinical Instructor of Plastic Surgery at UTSWMC Department of Plastic Surgery and through the Cosmetic Surgery Fellowship Program at the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute. Dr. Burns is nationally known for his expertise in Laser Surgery, Cosmetic Breast Surgery, and facial rejuvenation, including the use of neuromodulators and soft tissue fillers. As President of DPSI, Dr. Burns is interested in the advancement of cooperation between industry and private practice with the goal of improving the safety of efficacy of relevant devices, drugs, and procedures.
Dr. Burns goal is to create natural beauty without making a person appear unnatural or “fake.” He believes that a person’s natural beauty should be enhanced, not altered. Dr. Burns believes in achieving the finest possible result with the least risk. He insists on using only physician anesthesiologists and operates in an onsite and fully accredited surgery center, the Dallas Day Surgery Center, or at Baylor University Medical Center.
Dr. Burns' Botox and Filler practice has received Allergan's Double Black Diamond Award and ranks in the Top20 practices in the United States.

Dr. Burns was raised in Dallas and graduated from Highland Park High School. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Burns is married to Ann Burns, a graduate of Wake Forest University and The University of Texas School of Law. Dr. Burns and Ann have three wonderful children: Jack (14) , David (12), and Lucy (9). Dr. Burns is a member of The Park Cities Presbyterian Church.
Dr. Burns is an elite masters marathon runner and competes annually in The New York City Marathon and The Boston Marathon. Dr. Burns has a personal best time for the marathon of 2:45.
Dr. Burns is on the Board of Directors and is a contributing surgeon to the Share-A-Smile Foundation which treats uninsured children with vascular anomalies. He is regularly active with LEAP, an organization founded by his partner, Dr P. Craig Hobar, whose mission is to bring the finest reconstructive care to underserved countries.
