I met Mr Peterson in his dressing room in 1958 after a show in Bournemouth England. I shall never forget his kindness,a class act giving many years of pleasure.
I dont mean to be so off topic but does anyone know of a method to log back into an Instagram account? I somehow lost the account password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me!
That key change at 2:27 gets you high instantly. After taking you around in a typical swingy blues trip the landing is so sweet, back to the theme you'd forgotten. Master.
No one plays like him. No one. Even take his unreal speed away.... His touch and class is in the realm only with the likes of Evans, Hank Jones, Tatum, Nat and Red Garland.
I remember that he had a stroke that permanently weakened his left hand,if you look at his left hand in this performance, you will see that the motor function is a lot weaker and slower than the right hand, and he is using his right hand to compensate,to really brilliant effect.Even listening to this you would never know, that his left hand was weak unless pointed out, sheer genius! At the time he never thought he would play again.
I saw Ray Brown playing with a different trio in 1993, and he was talking with people in the lobby during a set break. He mentioned to those around in conversation that Oscar had recently had a stroke; I think he said it may have happened while they were on performance.
Great Performance by all of the musicians. Please Post their names when you post a video. Oscar Peterson always introduced the musicians He performed with. Thanks.
Even with pretty much a dead left hand, Oscar was a phenomenal musician. I believe he was technically/pianistically one of the two greatest of them all, the other being Peterson's own hero, Art Tatum. Can anyone name the chord he uses between the I and the IV chord progression? Even his own originals were wonderful.
Bob Burns , Mr. Peterson has the best left hand ever to play piano, he was however; deferential to his bass player. If you listen to any of Mr. Peterson's solo performances, you will have problems keeping up with what both hands are doing.
This is actually from Munich Piano Summer 1994. I only found related information in the below two links, but video/recording wise, almost can’t find anything. We can only enjoy whatever little amount there is that’s posted on RUclips, unfortunately. (Or fortunately there’s still the few videos we can enjoy!) www.loc.gov/item/jots.200027880/ en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Münchner_Klaviersommer
I don't understand how you could listen to Evans, Corea and, last but not least Keith Jarrett then even compare them to Tatum or Peterson. The technical ability of the aforementioned alone separates them from Peterson in particular. Complex chords versus playing scales. I have to put Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett at the top of the list (a tie). IMHO
Why "best?" why not different, interesting, individual. Jazz needs all of these great musicians past and present. Technique is in the Service of Music: different Music different Technique.

Oscar Peterson the greatest pianist ever. I listen to him over & over again.
He is.

Gods came down to Earth and then this happened. This music is beyond incredible.
What a beautiful piece of music!
I have spent many years telling about these musicians!!!!PLEASE support jazz in the schools! Love Granny
And basically playing one-handed. Amazing...
Without a hand he's still the best.
Absolutely true
Best.bass.solo.ever.
NHOP and Oscar Peterson - speechless
Just like a Sweet Melody in Heaven!!! Thanks, Master of Masters!

Eargasm, eyegasm, fingergasm, soulgasm! Bliss on Earth.
You guys are just pure happy and joy for all!! Gracious!! Thank you so much for greatness...!!
So peaceful and then FLAT OUT FUNK!!!!

How international! Two Canadians (Peterson and guitarist Lorne Lofsky), a Dane (bassist Niels Pedersen) and an Englishman (drummer Martin Drew).
un pur moment de bonheur
et ce regard tout à la fin vient des cieux
I'll never be able to do half of what he's capable of after a stroke with both hands and feet. A master indeed. May he RIP.
right hand and left thumb !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The MASTER!!!!
Great, as everything that He plays

Anthunem: The guitarist is Lorne Lofsky, a Canadian who played with OP a few times during OP's last years.
Håkon Kvamm
thanks, I was wondering who he is!
Thanks. I've never seen him playing with Oscar before. Nice play.
I was reading the comments thinking that maybe I'll get a bass one...eishhhh NHOP🙌🙌
2:27!!!!!! Here comes Mr Funk!!!!

Tatum had a superior left hand.
So many choices, but using C, could have been C, Bb7sus, F
Igen igen mindig tulajdonképpen a klasszikus zene az alap valójában akkor születnek ilyen egyedülálló zsenik
This was after his stroke, but still great!
I love this part 1:43
GRACIAS A LA TECNOLOGÍA LO PODEMOS SEGUIR GOZANDO A ESTE GENIO DEL TECLADO ¡¡¡ ¡¡ ¡¡¡ ¡¡ ¡¡¡ ¡¡ ¡¡¡
🌕 merci 🌚
2: 27 Mercy!!!!!
Lol, who played the b7 note as OP was getting up at the end when the song was finished? Lol.
Literally the guy who could whoop you down with one hand tied behind his back...ha
A brilliant musician. Re the comments below, let's not forget the other great genius, Errol Garner.
Prince of Strides!!!
And Art Tatum too.
Erroll Garner...definitely 🌺🌼🌸🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽😘😘😘
@@mightyginza3182 Yep! I've yet to hear a better version of Autumn leaves than Mr. Garner's.
Does anyone know when/what performance this was? Can't seem to find this specific recording of this song anywhere else.

@@NoobieSnake Awesome, thanks for taking the time to do that research!
@@david8694 No problem! I got curious also, lol!
Beautiful. I’m guessing Joe Pass had passed (pun not intended) at this point.
that song that he plays on the intro reminds me of something, anyone know what song it is?
Can it be Bach's "Das wohltemperierte klavier"?
And "White Christmas" (00:43).
Best known for his voice, Nat King Cole was no slouch either...
Who wants to take a solo after Oscar Peterson? Anyone????
Yeah - Bill Evans !
Hi there, is there a DVD of this concert available? Do you know where and when it was recorded?
Thanks!
I like a lot he could do wrong shere genius
Who's the guitarist on this video ??
Anybody knows who the guitarist is? Is it Barney Kessel?
Lorne Lofsky

budgie007hopkins

I think that you are mistaken. Tatum and Peterson are the greatest pianists in jazz history and those you wrote about simply good ones
You’re mixing technique and music! oscar uses his technique to serve the music Ken jarret does only technique, he is not a musician ah no !
Go back to your crayons, you can't appreciate truly great artists.
Tatum and Peterson - 1 and 2 greatest. Period.
@@docDiogenes Rubbish - go and trade-in your cloth ears for a pair that work - then go back and listen to Bill Evans - then wake up ! Period !
