Thanks Chino for keeping the riders rolling in spite of horrible flood circumstances! Riding is an outlet that needs protected when you lose some battles in your life.
The Vrod was mine. It only had 5500 miles on it. I bought it when they came out with it in 2002. Breaks my heart. Many thanks to John Dempsey for talking to my insurance company and convincing them to give me a larger settlement!!!!!
Seeing these bikes will make grown men cry 😢 on the salvage side you will be able to save most of the fairings, panniers , tour packs and fuel tanks so not a total loss.
I visit Clearwater often and rent bikes from a dude with a sweet collection. I hope he dident get hit too hard. Last time I was down there I rode his Harley Pan am, very fun bike.
I was a motorcycle tech and service manager at a couple of multi-line dealerships in the Houston area between 1992-2005 and can tell you that the worst damage from hurricane storm surge is when the salt water gets into the frame through the steering head and swing arm mounts, it starts to cause rust to form within a couple of hours after being taken out of the salt water. Next to that is when the salt water gets into the engine or oil tank, oil is lighter than water so most of it floats out and it instantly causes bearing rollers and cranks to rust. The fuel tanks take a serious hit too. If you can't get everything washed down with fresh water and dried out with alcohol immediately you're screwed. Even PWC's along the Gulf Coast need flushing as soon as they come out of salt water, that stuff is the worst.
@@dwayneglover914 You can fully rebuild it (including cylinder re-sleeving/fresh valve seats), re-wire it, and it's not at all worth it. Even if you can afford to spend twice the value of the bike to save it, it's still not worth the time it takes to do the rebuild. All of the cast aluminum in the video will be covered in a white powder in a month or two, that white powder is aluminum corrosion. Cast aluminum is porous and salt water penetrates those pores, that corrosion affects the structural integrity of the aluminum.
Soon after Milton, I saw in a video where the water was at their front door so I'm sure they received water damage. Nothing on their web page but they did make some statements on their Facebook page. One big difference for North Carolina is that they are dealing with fresh water, not the salt water storm surge shown in this video.
Most likely the bank or ins. company sends them to auction like co-part. These bikes are better than a bike in a crash. Sometimes wiring harness and flushing the hell outa the motor along with your time and these bikes can be restored
@maddog7999 no understand it just fine, I'm not saying all can be saved but some can. I've seen cars restored after flood and a bikes wiring is not as complicated. Sometimes people luck out and if the bikes engine was on the proper stroke no water would get in ,wouldn't you agree? These bikes are not submerged for years.
I did a 100% teardown and rebuild on a flooded antique harley, it was flooded with fresh water, I'm sure if it were salt water it would have been a lost cause.
Damn, there’s a business case here for salvaging the parts and doing ultrasounds on them to check integrity. Recon. them and get them back into service!
Having owned many outboard engines large and small, a good and I mean really good freshwater wash, then lots and lots of 'duck oil' You need to do this soon, not months after, but there's still lots of save-able bikes there.
It's sad to see... but thankful that the people were able to see another day. The bikes come and go. On the bright side, someone who does their own work may be able to pick one of those bikes up and do something special with it. When I saw that trike, I said that's the one. If I could get my hands on that, it would become a tribute bike at the end of the day. Already did a tricked out Sportster for the 'Battle of Mogadishu'.
What about parts like grips or custom windshields, maybe even some custom seats, highway pegs, after market floor boards, luggage racks off of tour packs, heck maybe some removable tour packs.
Damn The Hurricane did so much Catastrophic damage Homes cars Businesses & Jobs lost now one Looses His Pride & Joy his / hers 2 wheel escape so Sad & terrible most them good looking bikes Cant Not be rebuilt parts sold or something beside crushed for just medal recycling
They put them in a container and ship them to Lithuania, Europe like all wrecked HDs. In Lithuania they ‘repair’ the bike or make one bike out of two or three. They put the ODO back and ship it to other European countries as good bikes without a salvage history. This is a very disturbing thing. Every 1HD bike is trash in Europe and even European dealers do not trade in 1HD bikes… go figure
Most insurance companies are no longer selling flood salvaged vehicles period. There was a lawsuit that happened recently and so now they are no, so sorry, so sad. Don't care if its a project and you give all kinds of documentations of not responsible. It will be all insurance companies by 2025. Thank those that bought a KNOWN flood vehicle and sued because electronics were bad or a battery went bad on it. Ruined it for everyone else because some flood vehicles aren't bad bad and can be saved. Especially if not on a coast line and its just fresh water. But alas....
Ya know in watching this very sad story at the lose of those bikes ,it made me wonder being that every one knew it was a comin ,would it have saved them if the owners had gotten large bags and i know dealers might have them as the bikes are covered in a bag or plastic cover when they are crated,so if one was to cover it in one of these bags then swaddle the bike in it tape its tight, then wrap it in more plastic several times ,basically cocoon it in plastic , i mean i saw a video of gas stations warping the pumps in plastic to protect the electronics ,so why not give it a go, basically put it in a bubble ,i know i would have given it a shot with my 2 babys.
What a instance scam blow out the cylinders 5 ministers change wiring harness 2 hrs bikes fixed disgusting hope people like big insurance bills they will put that bill in your premiums
Insurance companies barely look at water damage there are too many electronics and variables with electrolysis and corrosion . Not to mention there are very few shops that will work on these bikes.
They're now junk MAINLY due to the electronics. POINTS and a CARBURETOR. I HATE ELECTRONIC JUNK. Harley sold out. Virtually ALL those bikes are savable, IF you put old school stuff in them and ditched the electronics. But we have the evil EPA and gov't. .

My house in Jersey got flooded 3 times in 12 years. Getting my Breakout out is always my 1st priority.

I'D THINK A COMPLETE REBUILD IS THE ONLY WAY BUT IS IT WORTH IT ? WHAT DO YOU THINK ? I'D LIKE 2 KNOW

I feel your pain. Some of them bikes look better than some bikes over here on the west coast of Scotland. Thats new Harleys for ya.
I think the Asheville Harley Davidson dealership in Swannanoa, NC lost everything. The whole town was flooded.
That silver V-Rod was beautiful

Gotta post a link to the parts page...or a link to the junkyards so we can get parts

As of right now, 10/25/24, Copart shows 227 motorcycles in Florida for sale listed as flood damage.
Lots of great parts for salvage out of these kinds of bikes, but saltwater flooded bikes, even the frames are full of salt.
To my friends in H-D Tech: Prepare to field the "Warranty" calls.
Thats good to know how the wiring/fuses and salt water!
Makes sense, it'd conduct and blow itself and corrod
All wiring and electronics are junk.
That salt is inside and you can't get it out, that includes every wire.

Drooling for several parts that should be salvagable, black hi rise handle bars, faring, wheels...
Springer front end.
What about parts like grips or custom windshields, maybe even some custom seats, highway pegs, after market floor boards, luggage racks off of tour packs, heck maybe some removable tour packs.
Anything dealing with electronics and electrical is toast but tons of salvageable parts.
Are the frames salvageable
Id totally take the chance to rebuild the Springer, shame insurance companies wouldn't work with me to get it.
RIP bikes...So sad!
I was hired by a company to help with the clean up…two days ago, they STOPPED working. Is Florida all cleaned up?
Englewood is still cleaning up. Head on down.
So where is the insurance auction going to be for parts for all the twin cams you have there?
Yeah the crossbones is tough.
Salt water, yin and yang, it accelerates the rusting but heals wounds. I like salt water.
