I just realized that Elle uses poison mostly to defeat her enemies. First with trying to inject Black Mamba while she was in a coma, Second killing Bud with the black mamba venom, and Third killing Pai Mei with poison in his fish heads. She really is a viper.

I agree with your alter-ego theory.
She begins as Black Mamba, continues as The Bride, breaks out of the coffin as Beatrix Kiddo (hence the reveal of her name in Vol. 2) and ends the movie as Mom.

So when Bud says “double dose of rock salt,” he means literal salt. You replace the buckshot in the shotgun cartridges with literal salt turning the shots non lethal (for the most part) but inflicting a crippling amount of pain.

One thing you missed in both movies I think is that they already tell you that she’s successful up to a certain point. In the first movie, O-Ren’s name is already crossed out when we see her crossing out Vernita’s name (first fight they show in the movie). In this movie, she starts off by telling you she’s killed everyone on her list except the last one and that she’s on her way to kill Bill. So most of each movie you’re not wondering “if” she survives, you’re wondering “how”. Makes for a totally different viewing experience.

I don't know if you are aware but Bill is played by David Carradine who starred in an old tv show named Kung Fu. His character was a Shaolin monk. 😊
Btw a lot of people have used and still use rock salt shells in shotguns if they just want to teach a lesson and not kill varmints of the animal or human variety...lol.

@@AlexFilmsYT It was also how Pai Met himself could actually get revenge from beyond the grave on Elle for poisoning his fish. By passing on what he taught and trained a true student that his teachings lived through. His best student was able to come back, snatch her other eye out and basically leave her for dead. I like to think that the same black mamba got her in Bud's trailer as she was probably fumbling around trying to get out. I hope Beatrix to that suitcase of money too.

Great reaction to a great movie. Truth be told, I prefer volume 1, though. Vol. 2 is awesome and surprising and satisfying and uplifting and it makes you think. But Vol. 1, is almost not a movie at all, it's so strange. It's more like a poem, or a good painting, showing you a mood, a theme, the shape of a story, and it makes it so very special to me.
Anyway, the Bride's story is really interesting. As you said, expecting a baby just changed things so much for her. Gives the Vernita Green fight even more interesting looking back. I mean, basically Vernita had the same journey, getting a baby, settling down, leaving her old life behind. Our Bride gave a few very tough words thrown at her at the beginning of Vol. 1, something like 'just because you were knocked up and had a child, I won't let you go'. Really tough, especially how she just went through the same experience, and lost everyting. So sad.
About keeping the name secret - I never looked up. My guess is, that having no name made her a more abstract character. More of a symbol, less of a character. Yeah, as you said, she could be Black Mamba, not a clark kent.
So, just wanted to say, it was great thinking about this movie together with you. I saw this movie when it came out, and it feels really interesting to think back and digest everything, putting our thoughts together.
Keep up your reactions, and thanks!

I dont know if anyone else mentioned this but I dont know if it was picked up that Bill was the one that killed O-rens parents. Thats why they have you focus so much on bills sword and hands. The man is wearing the same ring and has same sword as bill so he forged O-rens future only to recruit her later. I suspect her trauma made her block out the memories so she doesn't recognize Bill. Also the ending is so wonderful because it shows, throughout all the hate, Beatrix still loves Bill.

Bill's Superman theory is bullshit. He's Clark Kent. He LIKES being Clark Kent. He was raised by the Kents as Clark Kent. Superman is his hero fantasy that he gets to play, a persona that he didn't adopt until adulthood.

25:54 They are pretty brutally twisting the actual logic to make this analogy work. You're absolutely correct. Clark Kent is closer to the real persona. Clark is his humanity, which is actually his greatest power. The thing that prevents him from being corrupted by essentially absolute power. Superman is more of a facade. The name he gives to his powers. An identity to protect his loved ones.
Conversely, Bruce Wayne is definitely the facade and Batman is the true persona on the other side of that coin. Bruce Wayne is his cover. The aloof billionaire who "accidentally" uses his money and power for good causes and secretly in the aid of the efforts of Batman. Kevin Conroy explained it best in an interview, discussing when he was first cast in the role, that he finally came to understand the dynamic of the character when he understood that Batman is who this man became because of what happened to him. That Batman is not a character he's playing but the person he really is. A dynamic they keep getting wrong in the movies unfortunately.

i love kill bill vol 2 so much. top 2 tarantino for me. kill bill volume 1 is down there with death proof, inglorious basterds, and the movies he wrote but didn't direct.

Interesting fact: In the first movie Beatrix killed 68 people, but in the second part no one died from her hands. Vernita Green was the last one who was killed by Beatrix, and ironically, this is the first kill that was shown to us in the first movie. By the way, Bill did not died. Watch the end credits closely, and you will see, that the only name has remaind didn`t crossed out is Bill`s name ;)
This story is not about revenge, but about mercy.
Sorry for my english, I`m from other country

Did it ever occur to you that maybe you’re just too fucking slow to pick up on relatively easy tropes? Well, since you’re slow, it probably hasnt🤦‍♂️

    • @dianaruman8723
      @dianaruman8723 3 года назад +1

It is not that hard to pick up a trope in a movie. I'm guessing you either haven't watched a lot of movies, or you're too young to understand what tropes are.

Clearly a person has seen a movie when they are correctly “guessing” things left and right like something in the money and that he hadn’t sold the sword. Etc.

If people like Elle & Bud told the truth & were 100% straight-up during a deal in a Tarantino movie that would be more of a shock than someone guessing there were shenanigans afoot.

dude...it's not like it takes a genius to correctly guess those things, I guessed the same exact things my first time watching. Im sure a ton of people thought the same things first time watching. And idk, if you were to really fake a reaction, wouldn't you throw in a couple more wrong guesses to make it seem more convincing? This reactor has genuine reactions for sure.
