    On "My Car Story" we're in the North Suburbs of IL on 4-2-21.
    We're looking at a 1969 Ford Torino Talladega in Wimbledon White Paint. This car features a factory 428 CI V8 Cobra Jet Engine.
    The car's Owner is Kevin Rogers. Kevin’s had this car since 2014. He shares details on this one year only factory produced car. Ford had to build at least 500 for the public so the car could be driven in NASCAR. This car was lengthened about 6 inches in the front for aerodynamics and was an “Aero Car” built for NASCAR. This body style produced many wins. One Famous Driver who drove this car was Richard Petty who finished second in NASCAR's Grand National points race in 1969, driving a Talladega.
    ENJOY!

    Hard to believe this behemoth was part of the “mid-sized” class of 1969. The CobraJet engine had a sound all its own. Thanks, Lou!

    Hi, Lou! Yes, sir, we're literally off to the races with this one! As you and Kevin said, this Torino had just the right shape to earn all those racing victories, and in fact Ford in 1969 lured Richard Petty from Chrysler, whose production Dodge Charger wasn't aerodynamic enough to beat it, largely because of its recessed back window, which led to them modifying it into the Daytona 500 to improve its chances.
    As the Ford slogan went back in '69, "It's the going thing!" Thanks to both of you for taking us back to the track!

      Thank you for telling about that recessed window. Hellllooooo

    • @davidthayer6969
      @davidthayer6969 3 года назад +1

      not exactly.....the first mods to the Charger were removal of the recessed window and making the grill flush. This was known as the Charger 500, NOT the Daytona. When Petty caught wind of these changes in mid 1968, he asked to be moved to a Dodge for 1969 and Chrysler said no. Chrysler really thought the Charger 500 would be a world beater.........those thoughts disappeared quickly when on the last lap of the Daytona 500, Lee Roy Yarbrough easily ran down Charlie Glotzbach, who had about a 1/2 lap lead........Lee Roy passed him on the last turn of the last lap and won..........The new Talladega Torino and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler were much faster than the dodge 500 and they won every Superspeedway race of 1969 until the Talladega race.......that was the introduction of the Daytona.

    I read many posts about these old cars and I am surprised that people believe that the CARS raced in NASCAR during this time were actually stock cars..........the NASCAR rules were that the bodies had to match a production template and the engines used had to have been offered in SOME production car, not necessarily the one being raced........so that is where the STOCK ended..........the actual cars raced in NASCAR started their lives as BODIES IN WHITE which were shipped to shops like Holman Moody where the first thing that happened was the entire front end was cut off and the NASCAR mandated tubular front chassis was added and tied into the roll cage............these were custom built race cars....though Ford driver David Pearson did insist that the cigarette lighter be left operational in his race cars,

    It's hard to believe that a radio was the only option and not a 4-speed. That Richard Petty Talladegas with column-shifted automatics ruled N.A.S.C.A.R. is a new one to me.
    Honest mechanics replace valve seals with the heads on. All one has to do is to pump compressed air into each cylinder, through the spark plug opening, which is on top dead center. One could then compress the valve spring, before replacing the seal. Any mechanic who insists on first pulling the heads is either untrained or simply dishonest.
    Cloning a Mercury Cyclone into a Talladega would be a cool project

    Oh, yeah, the Torino Talladega, those cars are one of the most infamous muscle cars on the planet, if not THE most, due to this Ford is the one that had the most wins in the Aero Wars Nascar in the hands of Richard Petty or so, despite the even more outrageously aerodynamic Mopars (Daytona Charger/Superbird Road Runner) are faster. Like the other three cars, it is a darn shame they are quite rare due to low factory numbers and are valuable, but these big beasts are a sight to behold and are definitely worth driving compared to their regular counterparts!
