A few square feet of memorial to the site of the 1969 Seattle Pilots, Elvis, Janice Joplin and Jimi Hendrix concerts and the amazing 1957 Heavyweight title fight and now some joker loading lumber on home plate? Remember that Sick's Stadium was given the annual major league baseball award for the best playing surface. The actual baseball field where the game was played was nicer than Yankee Stadium, Wrigley, Candlestick or anywhere ellse....like the field of dreams!
My grandpa (who was the groundskeeper there between 1938-60) said that Bucky Harris once told him, "I've been in bigger ballparks, Joe, but I've never been on a nicer playing field." When Grandpa took me to my first ballgame in 1969, I was amazed when we came up the steps from the concourse and there was this huge GREEN yard in front of us. It could made you catch your breath a little.
Way cool...I gotta go there.Thanks.
