Amazing. I've always loved hearing old radio interviews or broadcasts and watching footage from the 20s and 30s. Just think.. most of these people are long passed on. Some of them would even have children soon that are also already dead of old age. Crazy how much things change in 101 years.
That delivery plus being a angry drunk was the reason the dead ball Era ended. Also, it was a good excuse for Spalding to start manufacturing and selling baseballs in bulk
There's another video of this footage that is colorized on YT. Please check it out, although it's the same footage. Great historical content. Thanks for sharing.
I can't believe with those mechanics, Ruth would be dominant in today's game. Maybe if someone straightened him out a little, but no way modern pitchers couldn't exploit the holes in that swing.
I agree 100% But the old timers might say that 100 mph pitchers of today wouldn't last in the 1920s because they couldn't complete games and injure their arms too often.
Ray Chapman should have been in this game and Mays will kill him in August with that side winding pitch of his and for a while be a disgrace to the game for years
This is great, I've never seen so much League Park footage!
great footage of 100 years ago

Simply fantastic.
The 'slo-mo' film was shot at the Polo Grounds.
Thanks for uploading this
Cool. I was hoping to see a clip of Carl Mays pitching. 5:46.
Right. Same.

I never noticed before how much Ruth crossed his feet over when he swung a bat and then with all that power could blast a ball so far
it’s crazy because i played a few of my last high school ball games in the new field there…
Yankees/INDIANS at League Park, 1920.
The proper way to type the title would actually be “Yankees/Indians at League Park in 1920”.
Not sure why that was such a struggle for you!
I'm about to read the book about Ray Chapman and Carl May's.
Mays*
Some things are out of sequence. Hannah didn't "avenge" Ruth, that pick-off of the runner on third happened before Ruth struck out.
This game was played on June 15, 1920. The Indians beat the Yankees 10-2.
Was this the Chapman Game? I know Cleveland won the World Series in 1920, the same year they lost Chapman.
Chapman was killed at the Polo Grounds. Horrible.

Babe with a lotta cheap home runs in that small ballpark!

Great video!
Too bad you need to be armed to visit League Park nowadays.
Yeah that's absolutely not true. Just avoid Cleveland altogether if you're that afraid 😂
@@righteousdingo35 I guess I should clarify what time to go...and what color skin to have.
Go down after dark, "Mikey"
