Maniac has a new SmartTV and the number one question he’s been getting in his SmartTV comments section is “how do you hook up a component or AV device, there aren’t any RCA connections on the TV?”
Today we will answer that and show you exactly what to do to get your older player/console working on your new tv.
This video will not be able to help you if you are using an Insignia Fire TV. If you have one of those you can directly connect any classic console up to and including the Nintendo 64 no problem. The stock GameCube video cable will work perfectly with the SNES, N64 and GC). The Stock PS1 video cable will work for the PS1 and PS2. Wii must use stock cable. If you’re using a Xbox 360 or PS3 you MUST USE HDMI. If you don’t have an HDMI equipped Xbox 360 (seriously how has that not RROD’d yet?) you need to get one. For those of you who might be connecting NES or VCRs that are mono audio only and are frustrated with your device’s lack of an extra audio channel, analog cables that convert mono output to stereo inputs do exist.
Lol have the exact same tv
I have an Insignia TV with only 3 av ports (two audio and one viceo) but my wii cable has the 5 connections. Can you help? Im trying to connect but I see no AV input after connecting
@@jayR0191 switch to stock wii cable. It’ll look terrible but it’ll work. Or get a better tv
@@Maniac536 Thanks mine didnt come with the stock cables. If I use an HDMI converter will that work ?
@@jayR0191 I’ve never seen it work. I would check your local used game shop if you need a stock cable
I’m trynna connect my Wii to this exact tv 👌
Same and i don't have this adaptor! Lol
Wow actually yeah same
Yup
omg same :0
SAME
Omg your such a life saver . Thank you so much. I always wondered what they connectors were for .. 🤦🏻♀️🤣🤣🤣🤣
Can’t thank you enough
I can't find those cables anywhere I'm gutted, just bought a wii that I can't play for ages now. Thank you for the video though was very helpful!
Amazon do them
Go to your local TV seller, ask and odds are they will give you one for your model
Thanks so much, bought a mini anniversary edition and can’t connect it with Samsung tv and this video solved my problem but I can’t find the connecting piece that came with the TV!
My brother told me I didn’t need those adapters and to throw them out, thank god I didn’t listen and kept them with all my other wires because now it’s working, thank you so much I thought I’d have to pay more for my console to work
There’s a life lesson in there somewhere. Never listen to people who know less than you do
Great video and I see newer TVs being made and still have AV inputs!!!
Thank you, decided to hook up our Wii for the little ones for Xmas and soon discovered cables didn't match our smart tv, I didn't know what those little adapters were that came with the remote. Very helpful video much appreciated
I dont ussualy comment on videos but really really THANK YOU ! The most easy explanation on how to connect a xbox 360 on a Samsung TV !
Thanks mate for the info. I ended up buying a adapter for my roku and it worked wonders. Funny enough my roku did NOT come with adapters. Roku sucks at times.
You are the man!! I always hear people say/post, “this exactly what I was looking for” and it never applies to me, not this time, this is exactly what I was looking for. 😀👍👍Thanks buddy
Finally I found a simple direct demonstration!!!
Thank you 😊
Thanks dude, that has worked a treat to connect my SNES. Who needs an xbox when u can play sensible soccer on the snes
thank you so much. My mom threw hers away but found one on Amazon! You are a hero!
My girlfriend threw them away. Now she is single. :D
What did you put in the search? I put in what he called them and got something unrelated.

Great video! Totally helped!!! Was about to go to best buy to buy an adapter then watched this video and was like oh my god I totally forgot ! Ahaha
Thank you bro. I almost forgot that i have those cable in my tv box..
I did it 😊. The yellow connector went into the green thank you😊
Finally no complicated explanation, I just need to buy adapters at Walmart
I got two questions to ask.
Q1. What if instead of a green cable and it is yellow what do I do if the 5 colours that you showed but with yellow what do I do.
Q2. If I had one of them like the 3 cables like red white then that yellow and green colours but the cables needed to be the 2 adapters what do I do.
Thank you for showing me that is so annoying because o got Xbox 360 but I ain’t got the yellow cable to plug most of erm in I only two which is saying yellow and green?
I plugged the corresponding wires to the right ends to the tv from the super nintendo and the screen is only displaying black and white with lines in the display. I do have a samsung 4k tv. How can I get color and no lines on my display from a snes.?
Unplug the blue and red cable set from the tv
Maniac536 I’m also having the same problem, tried unplugging the blue and red cable but it stops displaying after that. Only shows the wii screen when I have both cables connected and it shows it black and white, any other solution?
Eric Arroyo that happens when you’re using the wrong region’s cable. Switch to your stock cable or get a better video cable
Thanks you bruh I just love you
Thank you I’ve been struggling with this ❤️
thx man i got to play after so long cuz of u
Is there a new tv today that you would recommend that would do well with old media like laser discs and vhs tapes? Trying to find a new 4k tv that i can also use for old media without adding a bunch of extra equipment.
So many options but looking for one without so much confusion!
Please help anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks now i can play my old game
Bro tysm you helped me out man,
Imma drop u a like👍
Very helpful 🤗
Thank you very much 🙏🏼
It’s been a week and I’ve finally found my wii but on new TVs they dot have that old shit so let’s see if this video works so I can play some mario party 8
Can you do a video for smart TVs that dont ha e the AV connectors at all? I'm conflicted...do I need to go buy the AV adapter? I only have 2 hdmi on my 70 inch samsung
Sure feel free to buy me a 70” 4K
@@Maniac536 lol just trying to play the 64...new tech is annoying IMO
Life saver indeed. I have 49 inch Samsung. I used that one with 3 colors. And in TV i vent to AV not to Component!
You're forgot 2 other US cases:
S Video
RF
Samsung can't do S Video or RF without an S Video-> something else adapter (for quickest ping time, use SV to RCA, for best picture use SV to YCbCr or SV to HDMI adapter)
RF is even trickier. RF uses NTSC, and no TVs after a certain date have NTSC tuners. They have ATSC only.
You need a VHS, Betamax or similar device that can take RF and convert it to composite. Do NOT use a DVD +/- R recorder, as they add killer ping when they compress the signal to fit on a burnt DVD.
Light Gun RF games require an old fashoined CRT because any delay with RF light gun games like the 7800 is too much dekay, enough to throw off your shots.
Thank you, this helped me so much ! ❤️
Really useful information. Thank you.
Pretty sure I threw out my adapters (or lost them). Found one on Amazon for $8.
Does the “Component” input automatically appear when the adapter is plugged in?
As the video mentions be careful if you need to buy an adapter, they are brand specific.
Yep
Can you use this on a Vizio smart TV? I want to hook my GameCube up to component but I’m not gonna buy pricey ass cables before I know
You’ll have to buy me a new tv for me to answer this question, but you wouldn’t be buying pricey cables (unless you mean the official GameCube component cable yes that is pricy)
Maniac536 that is what I’m talking about. I think I’m just going to buy a GCHD for GameCube tho
NintenBro117 in my experience third party adapters NEVER work. If they did I would get a lot fewer notifications per day. Honestly you’d be fine with stock cables.
Maniac536 I’ve heard good things about it tho, it’s very highly rated and HDMI will be a much easier hookup for me
NintenBro117 if you’re talking about the adapter I think you are the initial model was known to short out mainboards at the slightest jostle. Apparently playing smash requires a very aggressive user, they literally shorted the whole system by yanking their controller cord. Why the user felt the need to yank at their controller is beyond my comprehension. I was told that was fixed but who knows. Regardless, you’d need a GameCube that had a digital output (at least 25% don’t) and a supported game. If it works, be my guest but that’s all beyond this video’s scope.
This was useful thanks
thanks bro. epic win
How did you get the different HDMI names like that all popped up at the same time we have the same tv almost
Input labeling is addressed here: ruclips.net/video/qcUhXu0Xyb8/видео.html
Where do you plug the red whit and yellow adapter part into I have a thing that says ex link but I’m not sure what to do from here it would be amazing if you could tell me I really want to play my wii🙏🙏🙏
I learned a lot wow. Only thing is that my tv only has the hole for the yellow adaptor so i wouldnt be able to plug in the extra blue and red component plugs. Im sure my ps2 would have looked better with those 2 extra connections.
Red and blue is audio only.
Is there a place you can buy these?

I have a PS3 as well do these plugs work on a new TV new Samsung TV because we tried the HDMI plug it didn't work so we ordered the AV cable but my question is does the AV plug work on a new Samsung TV and does the ps3 work on a new Samsung tv
If the hdmi plug didn’t work your PS3 is broken
@@ZBee22 sure but i wouldn’t recommend it for a ps3
What type of samsung tv model do you have on the video?
thank you so much, I did it
Can you do it on roku?
Is that some kind of dirty slang the kids are using these days?
I have a 4K tv with AV ports. BUT it says “no av”. It’s not picking up the RCA cable plugged into my BCR VHS player…why?
Get a new rca cable. If that doesn’t fix it your vcr might be broken or the wrong region
@@Maniac536 I tested it again, why does it sometimes play then drop out, of AV then goes back to TV mode
@@JustBeYouooh either you’re sitting on the remote or your tv is broken
Wait so not all component to 3.5mm adapters work on all TVs? I bought new ones as Mine broke and I'm selling my CRTs.
There’s no universal standard for those breakout cables as such if you need yours replaced the only people you should be reaching out to is the support line for your television.
Saved me so much❤️😅
Hii. Can i connect ps2 slim to this exact tv with these adapters?
Sure
Yes yes yes this is my tv thank you sooooo much
my samsung has a combined 2 x trs connection but it works fine.

You are a person of culture
@@Maniac536 Same I thought the tv wouldn’t support components haha
Thanks for the video, do you know whether the Samsung adapters in your video or an HDMI out to component/A/V adapter would have better picture quality? Thank you.
As far as I’m concerned the Samsung adapters are the ONLY solution. There is no such thing as a component av hdmi adapter. If there was I wouldn’t be flooded with hundreds of comments a year starting with “I bought An adapter on Amazon I assumed would work because I didn’t bother doing basic research before buying my new tv and it doesn’t work drop everything you’re doing right now and tell me how to fix it!”
@@Maniac536 thanks for the response, I appreciate it. I did do some research but couldn't find anyone comparing the difference.
i have been scrolling the comments for 10 mins, still havent found one that isn't hearted
Would a N64 works on a smart TV if I got an rca to hdmi adaptor?
Honestly I’d give you a 75% chance of that adapter not even working at all, and even if it did a 90% chance this method would produce a better picture
@@Maniac536 thanks, I moved a while back and am 100% sure that those cables on the video are thrown out, any way to order new ones or would I have to go get a brand new tv lol
@@crnkmymthrfknhog8670 sure. Call Samsung support or their parts and supplies site might have spares

I’m having issues connecting my Nintendo 64 to my Roku tv. I don’t have the AV cable input on my tv so, I bought the av to hdmi adapter and connected the cables to my tv via HDMI. It’s still not receiving any signal when I turn on the 64 😩 any advice?
Return that bunk adapter for a refund. Never buy a piece of junk like that again
Hey I believe I have the same TV. 55"
Looking to set up my N64 but it only has the antenna connection. For vest resolution what conversion kit/adapter would you recommend. Much appreciate
‘Nintendo made an antenna cable for the N64. It won’t look as good as the composite cables but it’ll look better than any “adapter” you’ll find online (i.e. it’ll actually WORK and the “adapter” won’t.)
You saved me man!
Plz make a video of how to play Wii dolphin emulator on mi TV plx
Thanks man. We have the exact same TV exact same adaptors. Im gonna buy quality component cable for my ps2 and will connect it into my TV. I would like to play ps2 games in compnent. Thank you
A PS3 component cable will work fine on a PS2 and vice versa. If you can’t find any Sony made ps2 cables I mean.
@@Maniac536 i was gonna get hd r retrovision. And do exactly what you did on video. Right now I'm just using my composite cable until I purchase the component. We have the same TV should I get a better picture when using the components on my 4k TV like yours?
Micheal Browning you’ll always get a better picture using component cables over composite in general (unless you buy some third party junk cable). Even back in 2002 this was true lol

Don’t listen to him, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about... Just buy an RF cable. Then you can connect through the aerial port.
Gaz B 007 yes...if your console is older than 15 years...AND you want it to look awful
Manic536 What I suggested is the cheapest option to get his console/retro device working in the fastest possible time. Sure, downscaling will occur.
However, as you seem to think you know what you’re talking about, why didn’t you tell the OP to buy a composite upscaler, S-Video, Scart to HD converter, or even a HD link cable converter? Every one of those would be a cheaper option than buying a new TV with ZERO quality loss. There is literally endless devices available to get retro devices working no matter what connection your TV may or may not have. Your advice to this person is simply awful so please don’t try to justify your original reply to this person (and to me) with a ‘quality loss’ excuse.
To the OP... the fact remains, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. It depends on how much you feel is worth it (price wise) to play your old devices. Adaptors/converters are available easily from 20 bucks, but all in one devices can cost literally hundreds. Also, don’t be fooled by brands. You’ll find a lot of lesser known companies will have adaptors that work just as good as a well known brand... After all, it’s only an adaptor, not a pc. In this instance, the only time I’d say go for a known brand is if your planning on buying a mains powered device.
Gaz B 007 I did not recommend upscalers/converters for one very good reason THEY DON’T WORK! How do I know this? I’ve been dealing with comments on my How To videos for nearly fifteen years that start with “I bought this (insert console name here) hdmi adapter off amazon and (insert a laundry list of problems here) you can fix it right?”

Does this work with the Samsung q60r?? I wanna play ps2 nfl 2k5?
I’m afraid you’ll have to buy me one for me to find out lol
My Samsung didn't come with those adapters.
Not all 4K smart TV's have these component and composite connections with the adapter wires that come with the TV. Some 4K smart TV's simply don't have those input holes on the TV at all and you can't hook up composite or component at all, which is ridiculous. Make sure you know what you are getting with inputs before you buy your TV so you don't get it home and realize you can't hook up your older device. If that happens you are stuck with a brand new TV that you can't use for what you want to connect to it, or you are faced with having to return the TV and get a new one that does have what you want.
