Well, I can see why this one might be problematic. It makes it tough for him to say he didn't know what he was saying on TV every night was wrong. I don't think they really care about the offense level, just the idea that he left evidence that he knew what he was pushing was abhorrent.

How is that text any more offensive than Carlson said on air every night?
It isn't. Still disturbing though. It was just _"the straw that broke the camel's back"_ so they cut their losses. Sure, he had high ratings, but advertisers were not wanting to be associated with his show towards the end. On top of that, FOX KNEWz had to pay a record settlement, so they cut their losses.

I feel like in Tucker's case saying this type of things on air makes them seem almost "lighter" than if those things were said behind the curtains. Obviously it shouldn't be that way, but Tucker has defended multiple murderers of black people- including cops and just white civilians shooting unarmed blacks for "self defense", but it really does seem as if he's "protected" when he says these absurd things live on air. Perhaps the best example would be when he vehemently defended convicted murderer Derek Chauvin in the immediate aftermath of Floyd's televised execution by knee.
I suppose that clear layer of disconnect between what the Tuck man says on his programs and reality really does help to "launder" the heinous things he said on Fox, which might help to explain how and why Fox News won the McDougal case by literally arguing that no reasonable viewer takes Tucker Carlson seriously.
What I'm saying sounds like complete drivel, but Fox News has successfully deployed that tactic that in a legal case.

They might not have seen the texts until the court case discovery. Or they might have known about them or didn't care about any of it until there was money on the line with the various court cases. It was more about the public seeing them than Fox seeing or knowing about them. Once they knew we all knew, they had to axe him.
