Make a BJD wig with me!

- It's been a bit since I made a wig for a doll, and since I was working on a kid version of Vahn, I thought it would be smart to use leftover fiber from his grown version's wig to remake the same thing in kid size!
Did it work? Well... not quite the way I envisioned.
Chat along with me in this video while I work through the wig, explain what went wrong, and how I'll be doing things differently the next time I make a short styled wig for one of my dolls.

That could make a good Link wig. Colour seems right and the length is good. Just need to do a slight restyling of the bangs.
Ohhh, great thinking! I can definitely use it for my Link doll to go with some of his other outfits.
@@LomisPlaygroundI was honestly thinking that depending on the Link leaving the wig as is might work. But then I googled it and realised that no... No matter the game, Link keeps the side swept bangs.
Lovely wig. I haven’t made one myself for a long time. ⭐️
I hadn't either! It's really nice to be back to it. I have a few more I need to make.
I really think the wig is lovely. I really enjoy making wigs. I want to try the new method with using the hot glue gun method but i do t think my arthritis will cooperate. Looks easy enough but im sure there is a learning curve. Im just not sure my hands will hold out. Thank you for sharing. I really like the wig. ❤❤❤
I guess you'll have to hope for a good day, and maybe break up the work across a few of them. That's one nice thing about wig making... it can be done very slowly if needed.
My two Afro puff wigs were a headache to make. Curling the fiber was fairly easy. Unfortunately, handling the fiber straightened it back out. I spent obscene amounts of time trying to recurl the fibers near the wig caps.
Oh my goodness, I can only imagine how difficult that would have been. I need to make some Black hairstyles for some upcoming doll projects and I think I'd better start practicing now to be able to do it well...
@@LomisPlayground I have a project diary on Den of Angels where I document my Black wig adventures, if you’re looking for ideas.
I use direct application techniques as well, though i do it with Hot glue, as it hardens quickly. Watching your progress, I'm really wondering how do you prevent the upper wefts from getting glued onto the lower ones? I mean, sure, a lot of glue is in the wefts, but the way it seeps through, it HAS to be still tacky, right? =O
Also, before I started using hot glue, I also used the water soluble glue for the wig caps, because I didn't like how the others dried =/ all I tested got really hard and brittle, while the white glue still kept a bit of flexibility.
The blending in the back turned out quite good! Is there a reason why you don't feather it out with a razorblade though? I feel like it would be less straining on your hands? =O
As long as I don't press the hair down, it doesn't stick to the lower wefts at all! It just sort of floats above it, I guess, and so it doesn't dry stuck to them. :D
I've tried feathering with a razor and that actually was worse for my hands because it was a lot of pinching with my fingertips, which tends to be hardest for me. With scissors, I use my whole hand/whole length of my fingers so it reduces strain for my joints! I think a razor would be faster, but it didn't go well for me ^^;
I had a terrible time yesterday because we went out for ramen and I was having a bad fingers day and could not for the life of me grab anything with my chopsticks. It was pretty funny watching them flip every direction though because my fingers would not lock correctly. XD
@@LomisPlayground Oh I see! That's nice then! I was always wondering when I saw people do it like this xD
aaah ok ok. I guess that makes sense =/ damn.
I've been using a mini glue gun with a long barrel, so that I can spread with the side of it.
I've used a glue gun a couple times and it does work very well! I especially like how flexible the wig caps are when wigs made with hot glue.
