  • I've spent a lot of time doing casting lately, which means I haven't made progress on any other projects. So, I thought it might be fun to take you into my messy studio with me today and show you a bit of what goes into casting my doll heads. I'll explain what I can as I do it, but let me know if there are any specifics about the casting and finishing process that you want to know more about!
    Over the past several months, I've been collecting questions on older videos (and Instagram!) and I figured it would be a good time to answer what I can. Several of these were asked by multiple people, so hopefully if you were one who asked and you see this, you recognize how your question.
    As I worked on casting, I started compiling a list of all the projects I have lined up, and I discovered that if I complete one unfinished doll a month, I'd be going until late 2024. Yikes! I'd better get busy!

    Iplehouse is my all time FAVORITE doll company! I prefer 1/3 scale dolls and I LOVE their aesthetic as a whole. They are doll makers that have a story to tell and as a (soon to be) doll maker who is a story teller by trade, Iplehouse ticks all the boxes for me!

      Thank you so much!! It's hard to share much of this part of the process since it's a lot of long and slow mixing, waiting, and finishing work... but I really enjoy the way the dolls are turning out. :)

    Are you familiar with Miyuki Miyabe's Brave Story? It's a novel with a heavy JRPG element. A fun read, but the book is thick enough to use as a bludgeon.
    Since my favorite genre is survival horror, my video game inspired stories took that bent. They creeped people out even when I toned down the horror element.

      I've heard of it! It sounds like something I'd enjoy, but I have such a hard time getting through those big heavy books now... my reading time is so limited I have to keep a narrow focus on reading the genres I'm writing. But maybe someday I'll get to it.
      I don't think I'd be able to handle a book inspired by a survival horror game. That's one of the few things I can't bear to play!

    How do you give the resin a skin color? Which material do you prefer?

    • @LomisPlayground
      @LomisPlayground  10 месяцев назад +1

      I use dyes formulated for use with urethane resins. Right now I use Alumilite dyes. They have a range of dyes that come in skin tones, so you can use them as a base and then tint with other colors to adjust the shade. The resins I use are both solid white when they cure, so I don't need to use anything to make them opaque. I like the Alumilite white resin better, it has a nicer texture and a pretty glow to the colors... but it is so much harder to cast with that I don't think I will use it often, unfortunately.

      I make all my own molds! I'll be remaking this one soon so I will try to make a video about it when I do.
