I did! Same year, April 85 in Melbourne Australia. The most amazing musical experience I’ve ever had!! It was fricking epic and Freddie was THE man!! I am so grateful that I got to see them live at least once!
I was 18 years old when I watched this live on TV. Freddie was my dads age at the time so I thought Queen were an old fashioned 1970's band. After this I changed my mind!
To answer your questions. Queen a British band and this Live Aid concert Wembley London 1985. Raised 140 million pounds for the feminine in Ethiopia and watched by 1.5 billion people from 150 countries around the world. Sir Brian May is the guitarist of Queen he is also an astrophysicist check out his unique guitar the ( red special) made by he and his dad when he was a kid as he could not afford a Fender or a Gibson at the time. But the red special has its own unique individual sound.
72,000 People had no idea Queen was going to perform when they showed up (The band didn't commit until after the line-up was posted) and he had them in the palm of his hand before the first piano key plinked.
Queen has never been my favourite band, but even I have always said Freddie Mercury may be the greatest frontman in rock history. There will never be another.
That guitar is called The Red Special and is unique and as such priceless. It was made by Brian and his dad Harold when Brian was a teen out of odds and ends. An old mantlepiece, a tabletop, his mother's knitting needle etc. There are videos of Brian talking about, he even shows the woodworm holes he filled in with matchsticks.
“All we hear is radio goo-goo, radio ga-ga”- this was the song Lady Gaga named herself after. I was a teenager in 1985. Nothing will ever compare to those days .
I was 12 aswel but in school in the middle east and we all stayed at school to watch this show it was absolutely amazing with a school filled with kids their teachers and headmaster all going crazy especially when queen came on as a v late addition. Everyone else paled in comparison to them because they are Queen after all.
I was at that gig . I was a 13 year old boy and my big brother and his friends took me along and I've never experienced anything even close to that night again. . RIP Freddie the greatest showman of them all .
Freddie Mercury said some time later that he was only at about 70% strength because of his health. He took 3-4 shots of vodka and went out on the stage. Queen wasn't originally scheduled to play that day; they were added after the event tickets had already been sold. They also didn't want to perform like every other artist or band. Others were only interested in promoting their latest hits or albums. Queen decided to do things a bit differently, which is why they played a lot of older (more familiar) stuff of theirs, except Hammer To Fall. It also explains the simplicity of the stage setup, the lights, and even the way they dressed. They didn't want the performance to be about being flamboyant; they wanted it to be all about the music. The next act to go on stage, after Queen, was the legendary David Bowie. It's noted that as he passed by Queen on his way to the stage, he was upset at how well they had been received by the crowd, and he reportedly said "How the f**k am I supposed to follow that?!?!" Queen had just owned the crowd (over 100,000 standing room only) for over 21 minutes, and in doing so, they set the standard for how a music performance was supposed to be done, and all the other acts had to scramble to try to match their intensity.
I’ve Seen 5 of there concerts when they’ve appeared in California! Freddie was a phenomenal showman/frontman. They all sang. One of The best Rock Shows I’ve seen live! And I’ve seen quite a few and I am 70!
Brian made his guitar with his dad out of an old fireplace, knitting needles and stuff. Its a one off and he plays it with banjo strings and a six pence as a plectum. All the band play multiple instruments. All have University degrees and Brian is a Dr of Astrophysics and has been knighted by the King.
Brilliant and to think that Freddy was performing against doctor's orders due to a severe throat infection. Legend love your reaction please do react to One Vision Wembley 1986 my favourite Queen song. X
I think the crowd at Wembley was even bigger than this one. One of the best concerts of all time. I love this performance in particular, not fancy gimmicks, light shows, are any fancy stuff. Just Queen on a simple stage blowing away a massive crowd. WItness the power of Queen.
Fun fact -- back in 1985, Queen were almost has-beens. This concert not only revived their career, it sent them into the stratosphere. Even with all the superstars performing at Wembley (London), in the US, and other places all over the world that day, Queen put them all in the shade and totally stole the show. Another fun fact -- the lead guitarist, Brian May, is a real-life astrophysicist, with a doctorate and everything. 🙂
The 80's was a great time to be alive! FYI , Phil Collins was the only artist that performed on both continents that day. He performed on one stage, then flew on the Concorde to the other stage.
Queen is a British rock band that was formed in 1970 and was comprised of: Freddie Mercury - Lead vocals and piano Roger Taylor - Drummer and vocals Brian May - Lead guitar and vocals John Deacon - Bass guitar Queen has released 15 studio albums, 10 live albums, 16 compilation albums, two soundtrack albums, 2 extended plays, 73 singles, and seven promotional singles. Live Aid was a duel-venue concert held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London (audience of 72,000) and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia (audience of 90,000) that was connected and broadcast over 13 satellites worldwide to an audience of over 1.9 Billion. The purpose of the concert was to raise money to aid Ethiopia which was suffering from 2-year drought. There were 75+ acts, each allotted a 20-minute slot to perform. The UK line-up included Status Quo,, David Bowie, Elton John, Wham!, Sting, U2, The Who, Paul McCartney, and Bob Geldof with his band The Boomtown Rats. The US bill included Madonna, Eric Clapton, Duran Duran, Mick Jagger, Paul Simon, Led Zeppelin, and Tom Petty. Phil Collins played in both London and then caught the Concord Supersonic Jet and flew to perform again in Philly. Live Aid did not have a Queen audience. All of the tickets to Wembley were sold before Queen was announced to be part of the venue. At this time, Queen was considered to be an old band (they had been performing since 1971.) Those in the audience came to see groups like U2 and Wham! Also, the Live Aid at Wembley concert began at 12:00 London time (the Philly concert began 5 hours later), so the audience had been there in the sun and heat for nearly 7 hours by the time Queen performed. Paul Gambaccini, who was part of the BBC broadcasting team at Live Aid, recalled the awe among other superstar musicians watching backstage. “Everybody realized that Queen was stealing the show,” said Gambaccini. These were the very words Elton John uttered when he rushed into Freddie’s trailer after the set. “You bastards, you stole the show,” joked the charismatic star. “Queen smoked ’em. Bohemian Rhapsody (just the ballad and guitar portion) 2. Radio Ga Ga (the song that inspired Lady Ga Ga's name) 3. Freddie's Call and Response 4. Hammer to Fall 5. Crazy Little Thing Called Love 6. We Will Rock You (just the first verse and guitar solo) 7. We Are The Champions
Usually a band has two guitarists - one on rhythm and one lead guitar. But Brian May achieves both with his prized "red special" he made with his dad. John Deacon on bass with Roger Taylor on drums hold the beat. The more you listen, you will hear Roger's vocals and John's wild bass lines. If you listen to their 70s music, you'll get another surprise. Try COLD STONE CRAZY and LIAR, both LIVE at the Rainbow, 1974.
I was privileged to see them the same year in Melbourne Australia in April, before this concert. It was the most amazing musical experience of my life and I’ve seen a lot of huge bands. Freddie was the ultimate showman, he acknowledged every section of the crowd. We were like this audience, singing everything along with him. He was just incredible and thousands of others and myself floated out of that show with our ears ringing from the volume and high on what we had just seen!!! I wish I could go back and do it all again!!
Absolutely phenomenal performance from the best front man of a band ever, LiveAid 1985 a charity concert to raise funds for a terrible famine in Ethiopia, the live concert was twinned with a concert in Philadelphia USA , 72,000 crowd at Wembley Stadium UK, and 92,000 in the crowd Philadelphia USA , all the best artist in the world performing at the concerts , each artist had around 22 minutes to perform, Queen came on stage and with their phenomenal flamboyant performance stole the show from any other performer, they were by far the best on the day, although Freddie was advised not to perform by his doctor due to a throat infection, Freddie was determined to perform, and the rest is history, Queen as a band always gelling perfectly they were all amazing musicians, and each member of the band have written No1 hits,I was so fortunate to be able to attend the LiveAid concert and have seen Queens live concerts on several occasions throughout their career, I also attended Freddie’s last live performance concert ever at Knebworth Park United Kingdom, the crowd was around 140 thousand or more, A Phenomenal British band with a huge catalog of amazing songs, great reaction thanks!
i grew up with Queen music, I remember when I was a teenager I did not have a room on my own my brother sometimes allowed me to be in his room when he was out for an evening and we had an old record player, I was listening to some queen music ( probably an greatest hits album) with the hits from the 70s to the early 80s. You know every song is different. they all wrote songs. They had controvers songs like fat bottommend girls, or bycicle race ( a music video you could probably not do today).I think they made more than 15 albums over the years. There is a good documentary called These are the days of our lives, if you want to know more about their history. Freddie, born as Farag Bulsara died in 91 of aids. These are the days of our lives was also the last music video of them together, and it seems like he is saying good bye in a very sweet and loving way to his fans. it is nice seeing that young people today still appreciate this good music

This was a concert with many bands. But in 1986, Queen filled that stadium just by themselves and did a multi-hour concert. Then again in 1991 or 1992, Queen filled the stadium again for a tribute concert to Freddie, who had died. They used many replacement singers, all famous.

Live Aid was set as two simultaneous performances, one for an audience of 72,000 people at Wembley Stadium in London and 89,000 people at John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia. It was broadcast in over 100 different countries. An estimated 1.9 billion people were said to have watched Live Aid in 1985. It went down as the largest televised live concert in history, and Queen stole the show. If only Freddie were still here today....arguably the greatest frontman of all time! It raised over £114m ($140m) for famine relief, brought the world's attention to Ethiopia's devastating food shortages and undoubtedly saved thousands from death. A truly historical event! Loved the reaction x
Freddie was the first to admit that he was not a dancer but he certainly puts out some attitude with his movements across the stage. This is the old Wembley Stadium in London, England and the crowd on that day was 72,000 though I have heard 80,000 as well because supposedly 72,000 is for people seated on the field not standing but for the sake of argument I would just go with 72,000 which was capacity for the stadium. Set list: Bohemian Rhapsody, Radio Ga-Ga, Ay-OH (call and response), Hammer To Fall, Crazy Little Thing Called Love (Brian plays three different guitars in this song), We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions. So far, this looks like the copy of this concert that cuts off at the end which really breaks the rhythm of the show but if nobody told you which copy to select, you would have no way of knowing ahead. I hope that this is not the one that cuts off but if so, know that we (Queen Army) all understand it is not your fault. Brian May is the guitarist. He built that guitar (The Red Special) with his dad when he was a teen and still uses it almost exclusively and always on stage. He was also Knighted by King Charles and holds a PhD in Astrophysics so he is no Dr. Sir Brian Harold May, PhD, CBE. (and a few other letters after his name. John Deacon is the Bass Player and he built a special amplifier out of junk he found in a dumpster. That amp known as the Deacy Amp (pronounced (dee-key amp) when used with Brian's guitar, it enables him to create the sounds of horns and strings with his guitar. For 50 years people have been trying to duplicate that amp and so far, nobody has, though somebody is now very close according to Brian. John has an advanced Degree in Electronics. Roger Taylor is the drummer. He has a degree in Biology and ended up leaving Dental School when Queen started touring. Freddie has a degree in Design, Fashion and Advertising. This is no garage band, each of these guys are brilliant, Brainiacs all of them. What was coming up at the end was Queen's contribution to the encore of the whole concert. Brian came out with an acoustic guitar and he and Freddie performed a song that they wrote together called Is This The World We Created. Though they wrote it for an album the song fit right in with the theme of this concert which was Aid for the starving people in Africa.
This stadium seated about 100K people, but the field held at least 2 times that amount. The largest concert crowd ever at a concert is held by Jean-Michel Jarre at 3.5 million attendees.
Queen stole the show! Nobody wanted to go after them! There were 72,000 in attendance and 1.9 billion people worldwide watching this in the biggest satellite link-up in history to that point in time. Interesting fact a lot of people don't know is that Freddie's doctor told him NOT to perform that day as he risked injuring his already strained vocal chords to the point of never being the same again. Freddie, ever the professional, ever the performer, wouldn't think of letting the crowd down. So that is Freddie singing on an extremely bad day! This is known as the "20 minutes that changed music forever"! Enjoy your journey into Queen world! And yes, Freddie does not dance, he struts and poses! If you haven't already reacted to "Somebody to Love", Live 1981 Montreal I highly recommend "giving it a go" as they say in England! Enjoy and appreciate what your senses are telling you, remembering that everything is the way it was done that day, not later auto-tuned and pitch-corrected, those technologies did not exist then and I think all us music lovers wish it had NEVER been invented!
One great thing about Queen was if you saw them in concert they sounded like they do on the albums. I saw them twice they were the best concerts I ever saw (and I saw a lot). The guitarist Brian May built his own guitar to get the sound he wanted and has a PhD in Astrophysics. This is Live Aid, a huge concert with many performers but Queen was by far the best. It is at Wembley Stadium in England.

I have. Twice. Back in '78 & '80 in Los Angeles. I saw almost every band that came through LA, and NOBODY could match Queen. Freddie and the boys were really quite special.
@@chattikathy4391 Wow! Sadly I wasn't in to rock music back in the day, and must have lived under a stone for all those years and have only recently come to appreciate Queen music. I am the same age as them too - a few months younger than Freddie, and a few months older than Brian. What I missed! Happy for you that you were there.
@@janettesinclair6279 Better late than never! (Imagine never knowing their music 🤯)
And, it's lucky we live in a time where we can access concert footage from back in the day. 😊
@@chattikathy4391 What a great legacy they left.
But the red special has its own unique individual sound.
the best 20 minutes of music captured on film! big love to all people :)
Totally
YES!!!!!
QUEEN, THE BEST BAND EVER
FREDDIE MERCURY THE BEST FRONTMAN, PERFORMER EVER!!!
The best concert ever was this concert that only lasted 20 minutes. Remember watching it live on TV.
As a 12 yr old watching this on TV in the UK in '85 I really didn't appreciate what an epic, incredible performance queen gave that day.
I was 12 aswel but in school in the middle east and we all stayed at school to watch this show it was absolutely amazing with a school filled with kids their teachers and headmaster all going crazy especially when queen came on as a v late addition. Everyone else paled in comparison to them because they are Queen after all.
The man didn’t need to dance. The voice did it all but boy he had a strut like no other.
Freddie struts, doesn't dance, he was the BOSS that day, best concert segment ever...
Widely regarded as one of the best moments in live music, ever.
I was at that gig . I was a 13 year old boy and my big brother and his friends took me along and I've never experienced anything even close to that night again. . RIP Freddie the greatest showman of them all .
They broke the mould when Freddie was born , unique master , much missed
If David Bowie is worried about following you, that’s about as good as it gets.
His voice sounded absolutely amazing, so strong, very few could sound this good live.
Bohemian Rhapsody
Radio Gaga
Crowd participation
Hammer to Fall
Crazy Little Thing Called Love
We Will Rock You
We Are The Champions
Don’t forget “Ay-oh!”
He owned not only the 75 + thousand people here at Wembley but the billions of people around the world that was LIVE .
I’ve Seen 5 of there concerts when they’ve appeared in California! Freddie was a phenomenal showman/frontman. They all sang. One of The best Rock Shows I’ve seen live! And I’ve seen quite a few and I am 70!
Your generation should be listen to more music like this. Especially when live. All live no tracks. Plug in instruments n no bullshit Period!!!
They probably couldn't do it, this generation if they can't plug it in its ot working
And to have this strong voice live
all those people and no cell phones....
That was the magic!
mby cuz phones with cameras didn't exist yet LMAO
you think I didn't know that ?@@NBLoc
Only because they weren't invented yet 😂
@@opethdan2408 at 75 years old, I think I know that already.
The voice you heard at the back was Roger Taylor Queens drummer he has a powerful voice too x
Freddie owned the stage and the audience. 🎉
Fun fact is the the second song radio gagga is the song lady gagga took her name from. She is a bug queen fan.
This is wembley
I am talking about Queen's concert at the venue in 1986. I am certain that @astroboots meant the same. @@pbell44
@@pbell44 I think they are referring to their concert at Wembley in 1986 during the Magic Tour.
Queen is a British rock band that was formed in 1970 and was comprised of:
Freddie Mercury - Lead vocals and piano
Roger Taylor - Drummer and vocals
Brian May - Lead guitar and vocals
John Deacon - Bass guitar
Queen has released 15 studio albums, 10 live albums, 16 compilation albums, two soundtrack albums, 2 extended plays, 73 singles, and seven promotional singles.
They just took everybody. They walked away being the greatest band you’d ever seen in your life, and it was unbelievable,” said Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters. “And that’s what made the band so great; that’s why they should be recognized as one of the greatest rock bands of all time because they could connect with an audience.”
Queen's playlist was:
1. Bohemian Rhapsody (just the ballad and guitar portion)
2. Radio Ga Ga (the song that inspired Lady Ga Ga's name)
3. Freddie's Call and Response
4. Hammer to Fall
5. Crazy Little Thing Called Love
6. We Will Rock You (just the first verse and guitar solo)
7. We Are The Champions
It feels crazy that they where considered an old has been band back then already, they totally owned the show.
He owned everything.
72,000 people were at Wembley, simultaneously 89,000 were at John F Kennedy stadium and 1.5 billion viewers….
Best entertainer ever, I remember watching this on Tv in 1985…….it’s at Wembley stadium near London, England!
Am that old I watched it Live....on TV but....🇬🇧❤️👋
Same!
i grew up with Queen music, I remember when I was a teenager I did not have a room on my own my brother sometimes allowed me to be in his room when he was out for an evening and we had an old record player, I was listening to some queen music ( probably an greatest hits album) with the hits from the 70s to the early 80s.
It was great to see how much you enjoyed it. Queen’s Live Aid performance is still sensational after so many years and will remain so forever. Playlist: BoRhap, Radio Gaga, Hammer To Fall, Crazy Little Thing Called Love (a tribute to Elvis), We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions. Pls, check out White Queen at Hammersmith 75.
This was a concert with many bands. But in 1986, Queen filled that stadium just by themselves and did a multi-hour concert. Then again in 1991 or 1992, Queen filled the stadium again for a tribute concert to Freddie, who had died. They used many replacement singers, all famous.
Just pure talent mesmerising. Queen the best band of all time . Freddie Mercury one of a kind . Love him ❤️❤️rip
1.5 Billion world wide watched this concert live.
Freddie was such a character! playlist went bohemian rhapsody radio gaga hammer to fall crazy little thing called love we will rock you we are the champions
The best show man ever lived and genius musician nobody in rockmusic, can ever reach his level charisma unmatched and his voice touched by angels I hVe goosebumps when I see this concert outstanding performance overall queen is the best ever the talent in this band is the best you ever see and this group is timeless❤❤
This still gives me goosebumps- since 1985❤.
THEY WERENT EXPECTED! They showed up last minute
5 years later from this show we lost Freddie
This was in 1985...he passed in 1991
Loving your reactions to Queen, you can’t go wrong. Live at the rainbow concert in 74 is amazing, you’ll see how young they were, so blessed to have Queen in our lives for our whole lives and great to watch you discover them all these years later. I’m looking forward to watching all your videos, greetings from Australia 🇦🇺
P.S please react to their live performance in Montreal of “Somebody to Love” it will blow you away!
Hands down the best frontman EVER
Guitarist is Brian May, he has a nuclear physics degree. This was crowd of 75,000 at Wembley Arena in London.
The largest concert crowd ever at a concert is held by Jean-Michel Jarre at 3.5 million attendees.
only 72000 there as one end didn't have any due to the stage.
There was no fix. There was no voice over. It him. And he was sick. Damn, a beautiful voice.
I saw Queen 3 times in the 70s and 80s and everyone always left with sore throats from singing so much. He can work a crowd!!!
That guitar is priceless, brian and his dad made it together cuz he couldn't afford a good guitar
Bt still sounds better
"Hammer To Fall" I'm glad you picked up on the lyrics 'what the hell we fighting for? Just surrender and it won't hurt at all' words still true today
I remember watching the 24hr televised music extravaganza!! ❤ I l'll Never forget it!! ❤
I turn 54 this year. I stayed up to watch this concert. Best concert I have ever seen. When Freddy rocked the crowd, I was done. I think he held back!!!
Freddie and Elvis Presley was 2 special artists ❤
As a person who WATCHED LIVE AID on TV back on my day.......this STILL BRINGS ME TO TEARS !!!
The entire WORLD was watching this day of music. It's impossible to explain what it was like.
You need to watch the movie about him!!👍one of the best performances I’ve seen.
He doesn’t do anything but awesome. He strut and flamboyant act is one of the best I’ve ever seen. His voice and musicality is beyond anyone I’ve have before or since. I love many artist from my era 60’s and 70’s some 80’s. In my opinion no one out performs Freddy. I love your reaction to Queen for their part in Live Aid. Keep bringing old and new music back.
If you haven’t reacted to Jackson Browne’s Running On Empty please do. I love all of his song’s but this is one of my favorites. ♥️
He isn’t dancing. He struts around, and there is a big difference between dancing & strutting!
You need to listen to "Breakthru" and watch the music video, truly a great song and video you won't be disappointed.
Thanks Honey, for showing Freddie and Queen.. There will Never Be Another Like Him. RIP Freddie. Queen will be #1 Forever ❤
This charity concert is the goat. Especially as Freddie was struggling with AIDS at the time.
As said before, this was a world wide concert, performed, in the UK the US and Australia, as one finished another started, it went for 16 to 18 hours i believe in total, , Freddie was advised not to sing as he had throat issues, he was singing around 75%, Also another little kow fact, phil colins also sang in the Air Tonight in the UK, jumped on a plane and made it to the US, to sing in the US part of the concert
Freddie was the greatest showman
I sat up with a bunch of mates and watched all 24 hours straight! Laughing, singing, dancing, crying..... I was 20 years old, and it was an amazing time to be alive
Price, Superbowl halftime. Epic!!
Yes it was!
This concert is a masterclass in how to work a crowd
Hey Justice, I was around 57 when I attended that concert 😊
Cmon now😭😭
Not bad for being 90!
My youngest son is your age. I don’t pay much attention to what he listens to most of the time. I mean I raised him on Metallica and some other stuff but I was shocked when I got in the car with him teaching him to drive and he starts playing queen. I’m like when did you start with them. He says “Spotify 80s music and why did you not have me growing up on this stuff”. lol. I enjoyed your reaction. I believe I’ll be checking more of your stuff out. Keep going on music journey. There is so much out there and music unites people every where!
Loved watching you watch this live aid you are a doll! I can say that because I am 72 yr. Old lady. Have 2 sons of my own and 3 grandsons. Glad you enjoyed
Luv seeing young people reacting to our Rock gods! Rest in Power❤ Freddie
We were so blessed to live during that era. We're all old and grey now and people laugh that we don't have iphones. We don't need them - we had the best music in the world!
so true
Freddy Mercury.
Mic in one hand, 75000 fans in the other.
This was the best live concert ever!!! Millions watched live on TV and from 2 different stages on 2 different continents.... Wembley stadium in London and in Philadelphia.... one of the best days in music history!!!!! Freddie doesn't really dance, he just goes with the music and is pure Freddie!!! The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert was another great concert celebrating Freddie and Queen's music after he died... he is missed dearly!!!!!!!!!
Brian May is the guitarist. He also has a PhD in physics and is now Sir Brian May. Knighted by Queen Elizabeth. ❤
One of the greatest performers of all time, with a fantastic band. Just amazing
This is the best 20 minutes of music period. This performance watched by 1.6 billion people around the world .I watched this and was memorized by Freddie. I was 15 and when he played the audience at home.Epic. Queen gained more fans that day than ever. They raised the most money and there were many prominent bands and artists that day. Unforgettable and Queen made my Dad a fan that day too. I was already one😂
