I just started my nunchaku training at 52 :)
It is awesome for several reasons.
    1. It was my childhood dream, but having been raised in very non violent family, my parents disapprove of any form of martial arts, wish I disobeyed :0).
    2. More important. Although I lead an active lifestyle, going to the gym and rockclimbing, I have recently been experiencing shoulder pain and looking at the training videos I figured out nunchaku is a fantastic warm up/prehab/rehab training for wrists and shoulders.
It strengthens all 4 rotator cuff muscles and wrist flexor/extensor and also increases range of motion. It makes you more ambidextrous. Perfect.
There is also an increased motivation for training, as it is engaging and fun.
There are some negative side effects, but minor. My partner and my cats are looking at me like I lost my mind, which may be true, but if so it is unrelated.
Last observation - please do yourself a favour and buy foam nunchaku as your first one. You will be hitting yourself in the beginning, a lot.

Thanks for these videos! Very easy to digest, simple and clear instructions, and as someone whose only ever messed around with nunchucks a few times in my life as a kid in karate classes, It’s a great refresher of what I learned but forgot all those years ago.
With all US states, except for Massachusetts alone, repealing their bans on Nunchucks in the last 5 years since 2017, I would like to learn these fully because while we should never seek out conflict; Being prepared to defend yourself in multiple ways is sadly necessary in this world.
I personally feel like understanding a tool like Nunchucks for defense is just as important as knowing how to properly clean and handle a firearm.
A lot of times, someone breaking in might not actually have a firearm, as they are loud if discharge and will immediately get the cops called. If you are following the letter of the Law, as well; your gun is unloaded and inside a safe somewhere children cannot easily reach or access, so think about how difficult it would be to wake up, crawl in silence to your safe, unlock it, load bullets into 1-3 clips, put the gun together, and **then** defend yourself with the gun.
    .
If your attacker is not even armed with a gun themself and you cannot get to your own gun in time, imagine how much better your odds of defending yourself would be if you could grab your Nunchucks from the side table and take them down in a few calculated swings.
Minimal damage, attacker is incapacitated; Cops can now be called.

I just made some "practice nunchackus, out of a couple pieces of 1" dia. PVC plastic pipe, with 3/4" end caps, (and, internal "connecting" segments), with a piece of knotted 3/8" nylon/poly rope, (thru holes drilled in the center of the adjacent end caps). These are relatively good, and, could be made heavier, by filling the inside with epoxy, and, also, by adding "BBs", if desired.... without making them too heavy.... Optimally, they ought to be about as heavy as a dense, hardwood, ( => barely able to float).....

How proficient do you think somebody should be in executing a specific "move" before moving ahead? For example, we start with the simple up and work on that for awhile before adding the next level of skill to it, in this case, the front switch. What amount of proficiency would be reasonable or advisable before adding the next move to the simple up, and so on?

Practice the moves until you feel comfortable or just have a desire to try a different move. you'll find out that a lot of these techniques will show up constantly and will be subconsciously incorporated into your freestyle. the most important thing is to have fun and the technique improvement and mastery will come with time. But don't burn yourself out with trying to master anything from the beginning.

So if I buy the Ultimate Chuks DVDs are they the same as what is taught here even though they are from 2013/2014. Also and this is probably a dumb question, if there is a new set of Nunchuks courses in the future will those that bought the first DVD set have access to the new course online or will we need to buy them separately. I only ask because if a new Ultimate Chucks is in the works it might be better to wait for it instead.

    • @GlobalMartialArtsUniversity
      @GlobalMartialArtsUniversity  5 лет назад +1

Great question! the current Ultimate Chuks course was filmed back in 2007 and is of the same curriculum, but we had a more amateur video and instruction quality in some ways. We are thinking of re-creating the entire Ultimate Chuks program, although nothing is currently already in progress. If you purchased the current UC, you would need to pay again for the new course, as the new course would have way more in it. Also the current course is value-priced.

So for me if you "shoo" something you almost naturally make the bottom half of an inward circle. Where as if you attack someone with a chop you do the top half of an outward circle. So I do a 4 count with "get, get, get, back, And on back I do my simple ups. But his lessons are 10/10 and it doesn't have me doing crazy spins for no reason.

Sure, using real chuks for training is good. But if you're a beginner, go slow and be extra careful. globalmartialarts.university/course/nunchaku/

Awesome tutorial - all the others are going WAY too fast - you show the beginning move for a few minutes to practice along - nice approach!

    Namaste Nanchaku Guruji!
Pardon me, I couldn't figure out your name.
I have a question regarding the line that connects the two nanchaku.
I got a wooden Nanchaku with a metal chain of links.
What I see is it's much longer than the Nanchaku you're showing.
I also noticed it is over going in the side swing.. means I catch the chain instead of the wood in the catch in the arm pit.
What do you suggest I should do regarding this. Kindly guide me on this.
Thanks and regards from Bharat (India)

Why is your nunchuck rope so short? Mine is a little bit longer and so doesn't work some move like front strike.

There are pros and cons to short rope. Fx backwards hand roll I can't do with a "to" long rope

Bought a pair of training ones that were made out of soft material so that if I did accidentally hit my face then I'd be able to feel less pain.
