Hi Shawn. "That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be" has always been my favorite Carly Song ever since it's release. It's brilliant & in a class all it's own (My opinion). This song plays out like a dramatic movie & it was the song I listened to as a kid before I would go to sleep.

Hi Shawn. I'm in totally agreement with you. That's the Way I've Always Heard it Should Be is my favorite Carly Simon song. She's an underrated lyricist. I remember being tutored at home in 8th grade while convalescing and an English teacher had me break this song down lyrically with him line by line. It's a masterwork, in my opinion. It still holds up well today. Good song battle by Seals, but Mockingbird is overmatched. Great job hitting on the key points.

Mockingbird is what is known as a "novelty" song. And those tend to be very catchy (often annoyingly so), but lightweight in terms of lyrics and composition.

Knowing me as you do you might think I'd go for the other tune...but no way, I loathe Mockingbird and am thrilled that JT didn't put it on one of his albums instead of it being on Carly's! My favourite Carly solo tune though is Embrace Me You Child, which is a deep cut off her No Secrets album (the one with You're So Vain, of course).
