Not-so-fun fact: The role of the grinch was incredibly difficult to Jim due to his severe claustrophobia being triggered by the suit. He managed to get through it and do a damn good job at the role regardless, which is pretty incredible.
Tyler Rakstis Dude you are being ridiculous. I'm sure doug is a great guy. in fact I've seen some of his non NC videos and he seams nice. Why are you even ranting about him? if you hate him so much fine but you don't need to insult him on the internet. In fact by coming and hating on this is just giving him more views so it is really backfiring . Just back off ok?
I love The Grinch (*points at scenes* Love, love, love, double love, *points at original scene* adore ENTIRELY!) but I'm shocked that he didn't touch the adultery joke. "Honey! The baby's here! Funny... he looks just like your boss..."
"Hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate. Double hate. LOATHE ENTIRELY!!!" and "It's because I'm green, isn't it?!" Two of the best lines in the entire movie! 😂😂
It's like awkwardly sexual and then depressing with a child being traumatized and turned into a shitty trauma filled adult and then after an hour they finally get to some of the book plot line.
Tangerine Farmer I even believe that Mike Myers would have been perfict for the character as well but i dont believe he would have been as good as Jim Cary, Jim Cary i believe would have been better playing as Cat in the hat but Mike Myers still was still perfict for the character in my opinion.
I like this movie, it's so bright and merry. No one could do the Grinch better than Jim Carrey. He's a very good actor, no doubt about that. Better than Mike Myers in "The Cat in the Hat".
Michaela Albury I agree with you and I think we all should do too. The movie is a classic for everyone to see. And Jim Carrey played the Grinch well and didn't look like a weed tree. Hopefully people who see this can have an open mind. They can try to buy this movie, but it could be hard to find
Well you enjoy your movie with Fire Marshall Bill in a green makeup suit by Rick Baker, other people will have the 1966 cartoon with Boris Karloff as the Grinch.
Wouldn't it make more sense if the Grinch carried a hammer with him and just smashed all the presents in the houses in till they're broken, so he didn't have to carry all of the presents with him. It'll still ruin Christmas with a lot less of the work.
You're not alone Critic, I agree with you. I haven't loved this movie since the age of two. The story was broken, the writing quite lazy, and the titular character a little too crazy. A a child it was fun, but with a smarter head, it just put me off, with a feeling of dread.
well hang on a sec there mr "chester ho", be careful with where ur comments do go. perhaps some strange people do like this strange film... although id like to chuck those people into a kiln. please hear my words ffs listen nc! how stupider could you ever be!? dont force ur opinion like a deadly blood cult as if you do so it is not film writing at fault. for you see critics like you are bringing down everything! its like seeing a queen and saying "meh... i prefer king". just please tell me why in all your reviews that you force upon people the i hate this film blues. i wish to know why ur such a moody little bitch all the time! is it just that u ,urself, was cut down at ur prime? and now instead of success you review childrens films to change our point of view... AND NOW UR ADMITTING IT ON UR OWN FUCKING REVIEWS!!!
The fun of the original was that the reason for him being an asshole was simple and was explained in less than ten seconds where in the movie, it ripped off Citizen Kane by having Cindy Lohoo run around playing investigative reporter for the Grinch. We didn't need an overly long backstory and for a movie called the Grinch, Cindy was given way too much screen time. In the original, she was meant to be a symbol of innocence which is what makes her iconic but in the movie, she's pretty much the main character that doesn't really have a lot of development to begin with. It just feels like she's there to serve as a template for the backstory in order to stretch the runtime and make it longer than a short film.
"Just because he hates something doesn't mean others should. He could share, not force his opinion like others would. For, it's all our different outlooks that makes us people grow. And everyone is different, like every flake of snow. For, different points of view could exist for a reason, to learn about one another and to make each other decent." Wow, that was so beautiful right up until the f-bomb cop out. We could all learn something from this example of- Whoa, wait, wait, wait, hold up... Nostalgia Critic's real name is Doug?

proto245 I watched his commentary on his Cat in the Hat review and he said that he's ending the Dr. Seuss trilogy with the Lorax. Even Rachel, one of his new actors, admitted it sucked.
I applaud you for being able to do this entirely in rhyme. I like the movie and can admit everything you said is pretty accurate. I will say I am really impressed how Jim was able to emote through that much makeup, not looking dead like Mike did in Cat and the Hat.
+Experiment 1-626 "Tardis" What a marvelous idea, we would make Seuss glad, Typing in rhyme wouldn't be so bad, You've got me rhyming, as quick as a pinch, And I must say too, I love The Grinch.
Imagine if the Nostalgia Chick reviewed this in rhyme: "It could be that her head was not on quite straight. It could be perhaps that her period came late."
I love the Critic's rhyming in this. Jim Carry did a pretty decent job bringing liveliness and eccentric grumpiness to the character, and the costume was good, but most of the jokes and references, like all new adaptations of Dr. Seuss' work, fall flat, (apart from the,"green" bit). The morals are all skewed from the beginning, and while the original was subtle, this one is loud and all over the place. I'd say this film is a bit of a guilty pleasure for Christmas specials, but it's still won't beat out the original in my mind. :3
jarmakey1 It has nothing to do with animation or not, he has energy, which the character requires. He is also very creative as well with his energy. Not every joke is going to work the same, but he in my opinion does a good job.
wheatherd Take cat in the hat with mike myers. The animation of it looked like it was done well enough, except it had some very stupid things in it, and i think if someone else played the grinch, it just wouldn't work out.
Shadow_Link No no.... animated means 'lively'... that's what jarmakey was saying. In fact, that's why television animation is called what it is: animation. The word animation means to bring to life.
Screw you >:P! I love this movie,it's one of my childhood favorites.I always have a lot of fun when I watch it.You don't like it,fine, but that doesn't mean you have to be completely disrespectful to it and to its fans.
I like it because it puts a modern twist on an old book, and the humor is good. Critic was totally wrong about Jim Carrey. He was freaking awesome. "What's the true meaning of Christmas?" "VENGEANCE!"
Andrew Shaw I agree with some of the Critic's criticism of Carrey, but he does seem a bit too harsh. You can tell Carrey manages to have fun going nuts as the Grinch even while he's in that presumably uncomfortable costume with makeup. Plus, I think the scene when he tried to make noise to cover the who's singing is hilarious. "PLAY MONKEY! PLAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
I saw it when I was a kid, and I didn't like it even back then. But I have to admit Jim Carey delivers a pretty cool performance, even though I don't consider it to be very Grinchy (He should be more sinister and quietly scheming, like an evil cartoon genius.)
Something I have noticed is Critic reviews some of my favorite movies, he talks about how bad they are and such, and he backs up each of his points very well; he is right, they all suck and are terrible, but you know what? That's why I like them, I think they are funny cause they are so bad, and it makes me happy I can still watch him and not get offended ^^
+Xanatos A few but there are infinitely more tired clichéd reboots and sequels to wade through while also dealing with pretentious pseudo intellectual bullshit.
Fun fact: The girl who played Cindy Lou Who, Taylor Momsen, is now the front woman of a band called The Pretty Reckless. They're latest album is called Going to Hell. And you know what? They're actually really good.
I don't love this movie, so I won't say that I do But Carrey's role at least got at least a laugh or two. I agree that the references are lame and the adult humor's a bore Yet ol Jim's portrayal at times isn't something I can easily deplore. Overall forgettable, childish, lame and so dumb This rhyming is so stupid, where the fuck is my rum?
BaronVonBielski Firstly, this is ANYTHING but a child's christmas movie. Secondly, my friends overthink just as much as I because when a forgettable, lame and dumb film is in front of us we have to do SOMETHING to entertain ourselves.
Hey, Michael: I remember when I was about 6, I had this on VHS. I was so scared of the Grinch, I MADE my mom throw it out. I even destroyed it before I made her do it.
***** As can Adam Sandler. The problem is that both do great work in dramatic stories, and both insist on sucking in this sort of juvenile "comedy" instead.
***** Never made any statement as to which was better. Just saying, both steadily churn out trash comedy when they've proven great with drama. Wasted potential.
Nathan Forester You clearly need a definition lesson. See, to be "brave" is to endure something despite fear. The star of A Clockwork Orange had his corneas scraped pulling off scenes in that movie. He went temporarily blind, screaming in pain, could have been a permanent injury - And kept filming. Oh, but Carrey sat for a long time and his contacts were kind of uncomfortable - Again, where's the bravery?
Don't worry, Critic, I hate those movies too. Fot it wasn't Jim Carrey, but you know who. The director, his ass full of fist, Destined to fuck up a story as timeless as this.
16:34 Well I've read that they're planning an animated remake of the Grinch. Though judging by the last Dr. Sesus animated movie they did (The Lorax) it will probably miss the message of the book like that film did and just add in pop songs and simplify the message of the book.
+SuchAWilma64 Not the only one, mate. I liked it when it first came out. Granted, it's not a perfect cut gem of a film, but makes for a nice little guilty pleasure.
I do actually like Jim's acting in this. Over the top fits the grinch well. Hopefully in saying that, I don't go to hell. The movie itself isn't the best, but watching it is better than a lot of the rest. Just look at Cat in the Hat, and Lorax to boot. Those definitely suck, you cannot dispute. Also, more seriously... I don't get how they blame the girl for the Grinch messing things up. He was fine until the asshole of a mayor gave him a razor. If he didn't do that, the Grinch probably wouldn't have done anything. I know, he would have, it's the original story. But going by the movie's story, it doesn't make any sense to blame the girl. It's clearly the people from the class that laughed at him, and the mayor's fault. Not hers.
Jim Carrey was the perfect person to cast into this role. His actions are goofy and cartoonish to begin so playing a cartoon character is perfect for him. The movie may suck, but it had some legitimately funny moments.
Fun fact: someone DID rub vaseline on the lens! That's a common trick in movies to make winter scenes look more cloudy. They used it in the Hoath scenes in Empire Strikes Back.
The Grinch was a flop Despite costume design The cartoon is just better It was already fine The cartoon was a classic An annual binge This movie, however Is a holiday cringe
Yes you are right But I thought it was good But it's just my opinion that most people should Carrey tried his best it was decent not full I mean look at the bright side at least he starred in Disney's a Christmas Carol
I have to admit out of all of the remakes of Dr.Suess books this is the better one. But they could have stick closer to the mystical power of the book instead of a pop-cultural version. But I still watch it
misteria247 I like both too I feel that a lot of people come back too it and the more funny parts give it just that right amount of the message and and the less serious jokes and the way the movie and jokes dates them self makes them funny when they are not or not that much and makes the funny ones even better and can give it a small bit more Lean way with some people with the plot wholes and the stuff that has a little inconsistencies and some people feel that dating it's self more human because yes we change but look at the pics you take a lot are pretty dated and stuff you did yes you did change like every one else but the movie can't so I feels like s old family video see and yes I get movies don't do that normally but a lot of people like to step away form the nor such as myself it's way more fun and the kids jokes can take some people back to there child hood memories that they made with there own kid jokes see and it took me the whole review to write this
Nerd Kid 2005 was the Grinch more frightful than Powerpuff Girls's HIM? you also used him, that word's already been done. but you used a pronoun, i mention SOMEONE. I'm terrible at rhyming, every since i was a boy. now please excuse me while i play with my toy.
Hehe, I'm glad that you did the ending that way. And because of that I'm not going to click "don't like" as I was going to. I really like this film and every year when Christmas is coming I can't wait to see it in TV :)
This is the most powerful difference between the animated version and the film version IMO... 13:30 to 14:35: So as the promised, the Grinch steals the Holiday, which puts all the Whos in alarming dismay. (The mayor freaks out over the stolen Christmas presents, and blames Cindy Lou for introducing the Grinch) It takes them a while, five minutes or more, to realize that Christmas doesn't come from a store. (Cindy Lou's father calms the crowd down by emphasizing the importance of his family. The other Whos start singing) You know, I like the original better, I know, big surprise, but it makes sense that they already know where Christmas lies, cause nothing could dampen it and that was uplifting, here there's blaming and yelling before they start shifting, here, the message is there but it doesn't stand as tall, and if you can't remake it better, WHY REMAKE IT AT ALL!!!?
I honestly must agree with the Critic, I've always found this movie juvenile and horrific. Sure the Grinch looks kind of neat, but to make it so terrible must have truly been a feat. It's not a good film, the actors just suck, the plot's convoluted, the writing's lazy as fuck... I can't get behind it, not one single bit. I'd try giving a shit, were there a single good part about it. But I guess in the end, that's just how I feel, and I suppose I could pretend that others' opinions are just as real. So enjoy your shitpiles when you watch this each year, and wear those stupid smiles in the name of Christmas cheer. I'll have no part in it, this movie's not for me. It's a steaming pile of shit, and that should be plain for ALL to see.
This movie, I admit, I also do hate, Seeing this pile of crap always makes me irate. It's better than The Cat in a Hat by a tiny bit, But that doesn't make it any less of a pile of shit. The pop culture shout-outs in THAT film were really perverted - All these stupid references could easily be averted! But no, studios think that they truly know best On their money-making, selfish, whore-mouth quest To take a classic and botch it to make it "hip and edgy," I.e. put in swearing, boobs and asskissing and make it PG. Though this movie is far from the worst, It still makes a neck vein or two burst. The message was just barely there at all - Maybe they should've given Chuck Jones a call. And that backstory of the Grinch being bullied as a pup Is like something Freud in a Christmassy pipe dream would think up. Is every villain now a result of being mocked when young? That clichee is a big, stinking, false pile of dung. I'm tired of seeing the poor victim become evil - What, rich spoiled elitist brats can't be bad as well? As a kid, when I saw this movie it was like smelling a bad fart - Doug's right, this flick really is the lowest denominator in art.
The trolling was weak in bcount1, He didn't find our whims of rhyming fun. With horrible grammar and laughable punctuation, He clearly represented the trolling nation. Plus, his icon gave hints to his demeanor, So clearly he was rotten to the core. However, the fun of rhyming, upon him it dawned. "u no, mayb its not so bad after all" Then, when he gazed at the above posts, He contemplated the English skills of which his brain would host. Then, he was dropkicked by a thought, "You know, my skills could be as solid as a fort. So, why not put them to use and improve my grammar?" And when gazing upon old posts, his skin began to tremor. His language skills shined like a diamond, And... ...oh fuck. ._.
***** getting kinda weak guy, it was funny at first, but the way you are rhyming is simply the worst. all of your lines are simply hit or miss, and your rhyming kinda makes me want to slit my wrist. so please no more rhyming from you or from me, and keep the comment box the way it should be.
For that same day that the critic reviewed the grinch, He made me dislike the movie, but just by a pinch. Critic made fair points, and the video was well done. I loved the special effects. Am I the only one? But do you know the review of a movie that I'd like to see? The terrible film, "Code name K.O.Z" I would love to see him yell at the rancid Movie. I need to go now. I am running out of rhymes that are...groovy?
+Pamela Barahona Guys guys you need to stop It's all just too much The comments section isn't the place for this stuff Stop it or I'll have to beat you up
This is so, so wrong! I LOVE this movie! Jim Carrey is PERFECT in this role. So many great jokes that STILL make me laugh (and I've seen the movie at least 10 times). Lots of great lines that I still use on my kids, like "Put your back into it!" and "Take the bag off. Put the book down. And your foot." "Dinner with me. I can't cancel that again!" "Five o'clock - jazzercize!" Come on! This is one of the great comedies. Just admit you're wrong and I'll forgive you, seeing as it's Christmas.
Scrolling down the comments section, this youtuber finds, People are commenting in rhyme, as if this review changed their minds. Whether people love or hate, attack or defend this weird movie, Everyone types in rhyme, he finds it quite groovy. Oh no, it seems this youtuber has been affected by the curse, But hey, it's Christmas, or else this would be worse. So thank you, Doug Walker, for somehow making us all rhyme, You're such an amazing talker, you don't get worse with time. Now if you excuse him, he's running out of rhyming, Just like the Cat in the Hat, which the Nostalgia Critic reviewed with great timing. He will go now before my rhymes get real bad, But hey, at least they'll be a lot better than the movies Doug Walker saw as a lad. So now he goes and gets ready to sleep, after getting a quick bite, As he leaves this comment with an incredibly cliched "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night" (And yes, my rhymes were pretty much forced and unfunny, but we can't all be as good as professionals whether they get paid money.)
Top marks for this video's grade A rhyming. I think this must have been the earliest instances I've seen of a nostalgia critic video playing with it's subject matter a little bit more.
This is probably my favorite review of the critic's. Mostly because I agree with everything he says about the movie, and because he kept the whole rhyme thing going the whole time.
Justin Lafser Hello other person I sometimes run into. Anyways I just don't get it. Its creepy from Jim Carrey to the Whos. Carrey's impersonation and punch lines aren't funny. The added back story was unnecessary and was more weird than anything. The story of the original is simple, it doesn’t need to be _more_ over the top so I don’t get the love for it or any of the other Dr.Seuss movies. Maybe cooperate Hollywood does actually know what the masses want cause I sure as hell don't. So why do you like it? 16 Bit Hero Oh you proto-hipster.
The Dynast Queen Hahaha, no, I'm not a hipster; I'm 14. I love it for a few reasons: Jim Carey is a good Grinch in the sense of the troublemaking prankster, the scene near the end, despite its sudden lack of subtly with the heart, it's still kind of heartwarming when he becomes quiet, and I like how the Whos have to learn the true meaning of Christmas and being flawed because it shows a true world, so their learning of what Christmas is really about is nice and endearing in the way that a valuable lesson is learned. Also, I did find many scenes funny: one of them being the mailroom scene where Carrey is dishing out jury duty summons and blackmail notes.
Justin Lafser That line was meant for 16Bit Hero, they’ll get the joke…if they know whats good for them. /threat Also my god you're young. I'm 10 years older than you, GET OFF MY LAWN! Anyways I can respect all that, I’m no tyrant, I just disagree. I watch Christmas movies/specials for simplicity and the Grinch had that originally. All throughout the year I have to analyze depth, be bombarded with harsh realities and such but once a year I just like to be 5 years old again and enjoy the innocence of the holiday. I used to do such a thing on Saturday mornings…..now I just have Christmas…..* cries *.
I enjoyed this movie too: ok, maybe the screenplay could have been better (and so could Ron Howard's direction), but I still feel the magic inside this movie, and that's what matters (at least for me). Art direction and costume design were magnificent, makeup deserved the Oscar, James Horner's score is wonderful. Even the cast was good. And Jim Carrey? I love him as the Grinch!! Every Christmas I enjoy watching this movie (even if on my own)! For me, a Christmas classic! ^_^ P.S: great video, anyway! 3:)
It's actually a tradition in my family to watch this every year, so maybe I'm biased to say that I love this movie. It's more dear to me than the animated one tbh
It has a darker, more cynical view than the original which I really enjoy. Also, the stance it takes on commercialism is very relevant (especially now in 2013). Jim Carrey's hilarious. IDK, this is a holiday classic for me and to this day stands as the only Seuss adaptation I like.
Okay, I find this movie a guilty pleasure. I kinda like it. I know there are a lot of really obnoxious moments, the plot with Cindy Lou is pretty dull and some of the characters added in to the movie are uninteresting and generic. But, even with that, it's just Jim Carrey as the Grinch. He really does make this movie funny for me. And also, James Horner's great score (yep, I love James Horner's works). In fact, I was 7 when I first saw it and I really enjoyed it (especially Jim Carrey, he was so funny). So, it's apart of my childhood right there.
Same with me,...I mean it's way too damn long for a movie. But me and my brother tend to giggle at Jim Carrey's acting. This is kinda of a guilty pleasure for me...
I'm gonna admit too the movie is bad on a critic level now that I'm older and see it but as a movie by itself it's a guilty pleasure of mine since it reminds me of my childhood christmas memories and I love the song where are you christmas...
Moral of this review video, "no matter what someone says about any movie, you can still enjoy it while they bitch about it" that goes for anything really... aside from ponies and bieber...
***** I don't think writing a post over 20 lines long declaring that all fans are not "bitchy" is working in your favor. Especially over something as little as this. Apathy; why don't you try it?
Sorry Critic... I loved this movie. I really did. Gave a lot of depth to the original story without ruining the lesson. In fact, I think they portray the lesson very well in this.
And apparently Doug doesn't know that Yertle the Turtle is based on Adolf Hitler. Otherwise he never would've said that quote, "Seuss was never child-friendly."
You know, the Chuck Jones Grinch was so classic, and so perfect, that we didn't even attempt to remake it-Ron Howard Then why are you directing this at ALL!-Doug Walker
I like the live-action version of The Grinch. Though I do like the animated version better, I still like the other version and find it fun to watch and a different take on the story. I also like the new versions of The Lorax and Horton Hears a Who. They were slightly different takes and I liked them for that. :) Usually I prefer a movie to stick to the book, but sometimes it's better to not and it just works.
Not-so-fun fact: The role of the grinch was incredibly difficult to Jim due to his severe claustrophobia being triggered by the suit. He managed to get through it and do a damn good job at the role regardless, which is pretty incredible.
gosh he is brave
He had to get personal training from a CIA agent who specializes in torture!
MAD respect for the man!
Least Jim was able to get a performance despite all of that makeup
That ending was beautiful. I can't say I didn't expect something like it, but it was still hilarious.
agreed
HeliosKitty It's good to know that Doug is aware that his opinion is not the only one that matters.
Ronan Slevin Yeah: only his fans are allowed to think like that.
Fernie Canto And we do
Tyler Rakstis Dude you are being ridiculous. I'm sure doug is a great guy. in fact I've seen some of his non NC videos and he seams nice. Deborah L. in everything wrong with crossover he does
Ah, I didn't know that was a thing.
Well they both do the rhymes
Omg, I am SO for that!
I'm surprised he didn't mention how Cindy Lou is in a rock band now.
"Hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate. Double hate. LOATHE ENTIRELY!!!" and "It's because I'm green, isn't it?!" Two of the best lines in the entire movie! 😂😂
Don't forget the part where he impersonated Ron Howard. That was completely improvised, but Howard loved it enough to keep it in the movie.
@@colleen4ever What was the bit? I haven't seen the movie in a while
@@drakeware655 when he was making Max re-enact Rudolph

"Solve world hunger. **TELL NO ONE**."

I need to stop looking at NC's comments...
Alright, I'll admit it: this movie is bad
BUT
Jim Carrey doesn't just play his role, he makes his role the only reason to watch this!
watch the cat in the hat, he says that
Is me or the nostalgia critic similar to Jim Carey
well Doug walker did say that Jim Carrey and Robin Williams were actors he looked up to, so that could very much be what Doug was going for
Planet man of MC animations nice rhymes bro
Brandon Roberts agreed
I love this movie, but Doug's rhyming was excellent in this.
Jim Cary was just perfict in playing as the Grinch in my opinion.
Serino Modica I agree.
Tangerine Farmer I even believe that Mike Myers would have been perfict for the character as well but i dont believe he would have been as good as Jim Cary, Jim Cary i believe would have been better playing as Cat in the hat but Mike Myers still was still perfict for the character in my opinion.
Serino Modica Yeah, but Myers was terrible in the Cat in the Hat. I hated that movie with a passion.
Tangerine Farmer I dont understand (i hate that movie with a passion).
It's a pretty decent movie . The makeup is good and it gives the grinch a backstory.
My thoughts exactly Doom 1353.
I like it but the whole point of the grinch was to show this could happen to anyone yes they can relate but still
AM Keefer
I like this movie, it's so bright and merry.
No one could do the Grinch better than Jim Carrey.
He's a very good actor, no doubt about that.
Better than Mike Myers in "The Cat in the Hat".
Someone did do the Grinch better than Jim Carrey 34 years earlier. His name was Boris Karloff
Dat rhyming doe!!
Michaela Albury I agree with you and I think we all should do too. The movie is a classic for everyone to see. And Jim Carrey played the Grinch well and didn't look like a weed tree. Hopefully people who see this can have an open mind. They can try to buy this movie, but it could be hard to find
Michaela Albury I found it too dark to be honest.
Don't question Dr.Seuss!
***** Gravity? They live in a snowflake lol
*****
.. The hell do you mean "gravity is basically non-existent for them"? His plan is to PUSH THE PRESENTS OFF A CLIFF. xD
Well, if he wanted the entire town of Whoville waking up and hunting him down, I would have to say yes. Use your thoughts.
You're not alone Critic, I agree with you. I haven't loved this movie since the age of two. The story was broken, the writing quite lazy, and the titular character a little too crazy. A a child it was fun, but with a smarter head, it just put me off, with a feeling of dread.
You put more effort in that comment then the director in this whole movie.

+Nicholas Paul I'm sorry to do this, it really seems to be a hit! But... C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!....Aw sheit!
"Just because he hates something doesn't mean others should. He could share, not force his opinion like others would. For, it's all our different outlooks that makes us people grow. And everyone is different, like every flake of snow. For, different points of view could exist for a reason, to learn about one another and to make each other decent."
Wow, that was so beautiful right up until the f-bomb cop out. We could all learn something from this example of-
Whoa, wait, wait, wait, hold up... Nostalgia Critic's real name is Doug?
+Keith Harris Yes, that's his real name :) Doug Walker
MsLallina LOL, no wonder he hates the Doug cartoon (among other reasons) :3

+Keith Harris And also being a christmas movie/review missed a perfect set-up with reason to finish and rhyme it with season...
Wow, the Critic called it when he said The Lorax was gonna suck. He's good.
He also called planes would suck and he nailed it.
proto245
Oh yeah, he did!
***** And man that did that movie SUCKED.
proto245 I watched his commentary on his Cat in the Hat review and he said that he's ending the Dr. Seuss trilogy with the Lorax. Even Rachel, one of his new actors, admitted it sucked.
Nooo... shit sherlock.
I applaud you for being able to do this entirely in rhyme.
I like the movie and can admit everything you said is pretty accurate. I will say I am really impressed how Jim was able to emote through that much makeup, not looking dead like Mike did in Cat and the Hat.
I really like it when critic starts rhyming. He has a good voice and yet he's good at timing xD
Who else absolutely LOVES this movie and watches it every year?
me lol i know its not the best but i like it :D
+Paul Ragin I watch the grinch every year.... but not the one with Jim Carrey
***** This is the one I always watch. Used to be terrified of it when I was smaller, now it's on my top 5 favorite Christmas movies.
cool
+Paul Ragin Why, though? It's pretty funny at times, sure, but the original is way better.
This film fucking scared me as a kid
King Arse Sergeant Psycho Because it was so atrocious?
Lmfao! 😂
My mom said I screamed in the theater when I was little. The Grinch scared me.
Same.
+King Arse Sergeant Psycho It scarred me. Especially when I remembered it won the Makeup Oscar over "Shadow of the Vampire".
This is one of my favorite reviews, mainly because of how he rhymes every line throughout the video.
This is one of the best reviews ever! the fact its all in rhyme which is amazing! :D Well done critic! xx
I can't help but thinking, just this one time
Why aren't the comments written in rhyme?
+ZorotheGallade I know what you mean I too think they should
And I think that Suess would be glad they would.
+Experiment 1-626 "Tardis"
What a marvelous idea, we would make Seuss glad,
Typing in rhyme wouldn't be so bad,
You've got me rhyming, as quick as a pinch,
And I must say too, I love The Grinch.
+Daisy Chambers Sad thing is, in Nostaga critics eyes, the grinch
well he though the film was a bitch
I don't want to be a bitch but could the movie be a glitch.
So...a false step. A blunder, a mistake? Something nobody asked for, and nobody had to make?
And then the grump thought something he hadn't before, I'm not so grump!
So he decided to review a game. It's true, look it up.
man, I gotta give him credit for rhyming the whole time, that must have been extremely hard to write.
I can't hate this movie. It's hard to hate something you grew up with :/
THE CARE AND FEEDING OF A GRINCH
+Lorna M I get it! Hahahaha!
^^
That reference is just perfect!
+Lorna M K?!
Bane Knightfall K?
Imagine if the Nostalgia Chick reviewed this in rhyme:
"It could be that her head was not on quite straight.
It could be perhaps that her period came late."
*****
"Straight" and "late" rhyme.
*****
They don't have to be spelled similarly, just sound somewhat so.
*****
No...God, I don't know why you think "straight" and "late" don't rhyme.
***** you are either a complete idiot or a troll.
ilovesparky13
Probably the latter. Trolling gets you attention.
Am I the only one who loves this movie? I consider this my most favorite Christmas movie.
*coughcoughbadtastecoughcough*
+CalicoVall You need some soup?
i love it too
***** Oh shit. *puts on surgical mask* It's an epidemic!
+ProSyndicateIII and you hate the polar express don't you?
I love the Critic's rhyming in this.
Jim Carry did a pretty decent job bringing liveliness and eccentric grumpiness to the character, and the costume was good, but most of the jokes and references, like all new adaptations of Dr. Seuss' work, fall flat, (apart from the,"green" bit). The morals are all skewed from the beginning, and while the original was subtle, this one is loud and all over the place. I'd say this film is a bit of a guilty pleasure for Christmas specials, but it's still won't beat out the original in my mind. :3
I grew up watching THIS version of the grinch, so it represents found memories for me, you might even say I'm nostalgic about it you see
I think in my opinion that jim carrey did a good job.
He's very animated, so kids would definitely love him. But when I see him prance around like that I want to punch him.
jarmakey1
It has nothing to do with animation or not, he has energy, which the character requires. He is also very creative as well with his energy. Not every joke is going to work the same, but he in my opinion does a good job.
Shadow_Link XP Someone doesn't know what animated means.
wheatherd Take cat in the hat with mike myers.
I can't believe that people actually like this movie it's so terrible and the animated grinch is my favorite Christmas classic.
I haven't really seen it so meh
Screw you >:P! I love this movie,it's one of my childhood favorites.I always have a lot of fun when I watch it.You don't like it,fine, but that doesn't mean you have to be completely disrespectful to it and to its fans.
kristof gergely Hatred blinds out the love in people sometimes, tho.
kristof gergely That's just how people are.
Meaghan Marker
Okay,I just hate it when he trash talked this movie because it's one of my childhood favorites and I still love it as a teenager.
The grinch actually gave my a few nightmares as a little kid.
youre profile pic is slightly disturbing
a peashooter So is yours.
+Michael Siegler not saying its bad though 😓
a peashooter I know. :3
+Michael Siegler =) ummm im going to go do some thing else bye
I came here to watch the ending, as it was removed from the original review for some reason.
Yes me too :)
This is one of the rare times I like the movie and Doug doesn't. Maybe its the nostalgia that's blinding me but i still enjoy it.
i like it cos it was my first Christmas movie
I like it because it puts a modern twist on an old book, and the humor is good. Critic was totally wrong about Jim Carrey. He was freaking awesome. "What's the true meaning of Christmas?" "VENGEANCE!"
its a childhood favorite for me
Andrew Shaw I agree with some of the Critic's criticism of Carrey, but he does seem a bit too harsh.
That's why I like them, I think they are funny cause they are so bad, and it makes me happy I can still watch him and not get offended ^^
......and that's why there are not that many good movies anymore.
+CalicoVall No it isn't...
+Xanatos .......yes, it is.
*****
No, it isn't, because there are still plenty of good movies.
+Xanatos A few but there are infinitely more tired clichéd reboots and sequels to wade through while also dealing with pretentious pseudo intellectual bullshit.
Wow Doug did a really good job with the rhymes and making it make sense at the same time, he must have really spent some time editing this.
This was one of his most creative of his reviews. I can't believe he rhymed through the whole thing
The Jim Carrey Grinch terrified me as a kid. I always thought he was gonna jump down my chimney and pop out of my fireplace.
Whenever I watch a video where people speak in rhyme, I always try to predict what will be the word they rhyme with.
I am the only one that agrees with Doug in this review? I fucking hate this movie, is horrible discusting and grose in my opinion.
That has nothing to do with my original comment, however I don't have an opinion about it, as I only ever watched the trailer.
Fun fact: The girl who played Cindy Lou Who, Taylor Momsen, is now the front woman of a band called The Pretty Reckless. They're latest album is called Going to Hell. And you know what? They're actually really good.
I don't love this movie, so I won't say that I do
But Carrey's role at least got at least a laugh or two.
I agree that the references are lame and the adult humor's a bore
Yet ol Jim's portrayal at times isn't something I can easily deplore.
Overall forgettable, childish, lame and so dumb
This rhyming is so stupid, where the fuck is my rum?
You're clearly overthinking a child's Christmas movie. I'm sure your friends loooove you.
BaronVonBielski Firstly, this is ANYTHING but a child's christmas movie. Secondly, my friends overthink just as much as I because when a forgettable, lame and dumb film is in front of us we have to do SOMETHING to entertain ourselves.
Hey, Michael:
I remember when I was about 6, I had this on VHS. I was so scared of the Grinch, I MADE my mom throw it out. I even destroyed it before I made her do it.
That was a pretty decent moral at the end.
He meant dougs moral of I'm right and your wrong.
I LOVE the opening to this, those expressions are priceless.
Is it weird that I'm watching this in the middle of June?
Matt Ascencion Join the club.
***** I second that
nelson gibson hear hear.
+Coffee Addict I can't wait till December just so I can get by watching this! 😂Gosh, I can't wait.
Matt Ascencion no
2:36 The last face you see before you get thrown into the unmarked van and are never heard from again...
I can imagine poor Doug spent quite a bit more time than usual writing his script for this one.
Like it or not Jim Carrey is really fucking good at what he does.
+Putrid Bile Being loud and obnoxious and annoying? Jim Carrey is Pewdiepie. Jim Carrey is Fred. Jim Carrey is crap.
*****
As can Adam Sandler. The problem is that both do great work in dramatic stories, and both insist on sucking in this sort of juvenile "comedy" instead.
*****
Never made any statement as to which was better. Just saying, both steadily churn out trash comedy when they've proven great with drama. Wasted potential.
Nathan Forester
What's brave about it?
Nathan Forester
You clearly need a definition lesson.
18:49 that has the definition of sarcasm written all over 😆🤣
I'm really impressed with the imitation of the original cartoon. They get the camera angle just right.
Don't worry, Critic, I hate those movies too.
Fot it wasn't Jim Carrey, but you know who.
The director, his ass full of fist,
Destined to fuck up a story as timeless as this.
“Ass full of fist”
I'm gonna use that phrase from now on.
I love how note-for-note the beginning is to the cartoon. The expressions, the motions... Exquisite.
16:34 Well I've read that they're planning an animated remake of the Grinch. Though judging by the last Dr. Sesus animated movie they did (The Lorax) it will probably miss the message of the book like that film did and just add in pop songs and simplify the message of the book.
probably
Oh god....The live action remake is pretty spot on to the moral of the story. They're gonna fuck it up...I really hope not but I fear so.
Uh oh...
Am I the only one who thinks this movie is ok?
+SuchAWilma No you're not.
I like the movie
fuck this critic I liked this movie
+SuchAWilma64 I have memorized the script to this movie, so no you're not. lol
Not hers.
don't worry it's perfectly fine to like this
I agree, and don’t worry your not going to hell, unless you say you enjoy the Christmas tree Unironically.
Why did the Grinch pull out a switchblade to cut the turkey
I gave that to him for a birthday present.
Jim Carrey was the perfect person to cast into this role. His actions are goofy and cartoonish to begin so playing a cartoon character is perfect for him. The movie may suck, but it had some legitimately funny moments.
I love how he made the Christmas Vacation clip fall in rhyme. This is my favorite review along with CitH and Lorax
Did anyone else come watch this after the cinema sins/NC crossover?
+fangirlashley Si, that's how I discovered the NC
+crazycherry1995 what was the NC quote in that review? "I've already reviewed this [derogatory term] of a movie!"
+crazycherry1995 Dude, NC said, in that review, that he had done a review before
+fangirlashley yup
Yep
The Grinch: It sucks a**!
The Lorax: It sucks Balls!
The Cat in the Hat: It sucks a** Balls!
I wish this was unedited on the real channel
He's not going to rhyme the whole way through, is he?
Is he?
Oh no...
"If you can't remake it better, why remake it at all?!" Amen, brother.
For the fun of it?
Billy Barnett"For the *money* of it?" Fixed
Logan Palmer Wrong, for the FUN of it.
Fun fact: someone DID rub vaseline on the lens! That's a common trick in movies to make winter scenes look more cloudy. They used it in the Hoath scenes in Empire Strikes Back.
The Grinch was a flop
Despite costume design
The cartoon is just better
It was already fine
The cartoon was a classic
An annual binge
This movie, however
Is a holiday cringe
oooooohhhhh
Yes you are right
But I thought it was good
But it's just my opinion
that most people should
Carrey tried his best
it was decent not full
I mean look at the bright side
at least he starred in Disney's a Christmas Carol
The Books are amazing and Dr Seuss is a geniusBut the movies have shrunk penis
seeing as the movie set records it's definitely not a flop. that's your opinion
I meant critically, not commercially.
I have to admit out of all of the remakes of Dr.Suess books this is the better one. But they could have stick closer to the mystical power of the book instead of a pop-cultural version. But I still watch it
my favorite part is near the end when he tells us the changes he would make, then said, "Oh wait, we don't need to, IT FUCKING EXISTS!"
I actually like this movie and the cartoon XD
agreed.
+Caleb Belyeu I laughed really loud when I watched the movie.😂
Nigel Fuentes Come on and do what? You're in titled to your own opinion and I have no say on the matter.
+Nigel Fuentes i respectively agree
misteria247 I like both too I feel that a lot of people come back too it and the more funny parts give it just that right amount of the message and and the less serious jokes and the way the movie and jokes dates them self makes them funny when they are not or not that much and makes the funny ones even better and can give it a small bit more Lean way with some people with the plot wholes and the stuff that has a little inconsistencies and some people feel that dating it's self more human because yes we change but look at the pics you take a lot are pretty dated and stuff you did yes you did change like every one else but the movie can't so I feels like s old family video see and yes I get movies don't do that normally but a lot of people like to step away form the nor such as myself it's way more fun and the kids jokes can take some people back to there child hood memories that they made with there own kid jokes see and it took me the whole review to write this
So the Critic continued to rhyme so very great, but he had to make haste because his mom wanted him in bed by eight
When I first saw the grinch, i was so freaking scared of him! 😂
Me too
Hehe, I'm glad that you did the ending that way. And because of that I'm not going to click "don't like" as I was going to. I really like this film and every year when Christmas is coming I can't wait to see it in TV :)
This is the most powerful difference between the animated version and the film version IMO...
13:30 to 14:35:
So as the promised, the Grinch steals the Holiday,
which puts all the Whos in alarming dismay.
(The mayor freaks out over the stolen Christmas presents, and blames Cindy Lou for introducing the Grinch)
It takes them a while, five minutes or more,
to realize that Christmas doesn't come from a store.
(Cindy Lou's father calms the crowd down by emphasizing the importance of his family. The other Whos start singing)
You know, I like the original better, I know, big surprise,
but it makes sense that they already know where Christmas lies,
cause nothing could dampen it and that was uplifting,
here there's blaming and yelling before they start shifting,
here, the message is there but it doesn't stand as tall,
and if you can't remake it better, WHY REMAKE IT AT ALL!!!?
The movie wanted to go in the direction it did, you may not agree with it, but it did what it wanted to do.
It's good to know that this movie's director, Ron Howard, directed A Beautiful Mind after this.
I honestly must agree with the Critic,
I've always found this movie juvenile and horrific.
Sure the Grinch looks kind of neat,
but to make it so terrible must have truly been a feat.
It's not a good film, the actors just suck,
the plot's convoluted, the writing's lazy as fuck...
I can't get behind it, not one single bit.
I'd try giving a shit, were there a single good part about it.
But I guess in the end, that's just how I feel,
and I suppose I could pretend that others' opinions are just as real.
So enjoy your shitpiles when you watch this each year,
and wear those stupid smiles in the name of Christmas cheer.
I'll have no part in it, this movie's not for me.
It's a steaming pile of shit, and that should be plain for ALL to see.
This movie, I admit, I also do hate,
Seeing this pile of crap always makes me irate.
It's better than The Cat in a Hat by a tiny bit,
But that doesn't make it any less of a pile of shit.
The pop culture shout-outs in THAT film were really perverted -
All these stupid references could easily be averted!
But no, studios think that they truly know best
On their money-making, selfish, whore-mouth quest
To take a classic and botch it to make it "hip and edgy,"
I.e. put in swearing, boobs and asskissing and make it PG.
Though this movie is far from the worst,
It still makes a neck vein or two burst.
The message was just barely there at all -
Maybe they should've given Chuck Jones a call.
And that backstory of the Grinch being bullied as a pup
Is like something Freud in a Christmassy pipe dream would think up.
Is every villain now a result of being mocked when young?
That clichee is a big, stinking, false pile of dung.
I'm tired of seeing the poor victim become evil -
What, rich spoiled elitist brats can't be bad as well?
As a kid, when I saw this movie it was like smelling a bad fart -
Doug's right, this flick really is the lowest denominator in art.
omg stop fucking rhyming and type
The trolling was weak in bcount1,
He didn't find our whims of rhyming fun.
With horrible grammar and laughable punctuation,
He clearly represented the trolling nation.
Plus, his icon gave hints to his demeanor,
So clearly he was rotten to the core.
However, the fun of rhyming, upon him it dawned.
"u no, mayb its not so bad after all"
Then, when he gazed at the above posts,
He contemplated the English skills of which his brain would host.
Then, he was dropkicked by a thought,
"You know, my skills could be as solid as a fort.
So, why not put them to use and improve my grammar?"
And when gazing upon old posts, his skin began to tremor.
His language skills shined like a diamond,
And...
...oh fuck. ._.
***** getting kinda weak guy, it was funny at first,
but the way you are rhyming is simply the worst.
all of your lines are simply hit or miss,
and your rhyming kinda makes me want to slit my wrist.
so please no more rhyming from you or from me,
and keep the comment box the way it should be.
For that same day that the critic reviewed the grinch,
He made me dislike the movie, but just by a pinch.
Critic made fair points, and the video was well done.
I loved the special effects. Am I the only one?
But do you know the review of a movie that I'd like to see?
The terrible film, "Code name K.O.Z"
I would love to see him yell at the rancid Movie.
I need to go now. I am running out of rhymes that are...groovy?
you are amazing
Fiona Keating Thanks!
DramaHateNation I like your rhymes.
They are quite nice.
Your rhymes are cool.
Cool as ice.
I give you credit for trying.
+Pamela Barahona
Guys guys you need to stop
It's all just too much
The comments section isn't the place for this stuff
Stop it or I'll have to beat you up
Honestly critic you've done it this time,
You've made a review all in rhyme
I really enjoyed this I really did,
And I really appreciate what you did.
You watched this movie 10 times? Do you need anything? I know a couple therapists. Please life has more meaning than watching crappy remakes
Scrolling down the comments section, this youtuber finds,
People are commenting in rhyme, as if this review changed their minds.
Whether people love or hate, attack or defend this weird movie,
Everyone types in rhyme, he finds it quite groovy.
Oh no, it seems this youtuber has been affected by the curse,
But hey, it's Christmas, or else this would be worse.
So thank you, Doug Walker, for somehow making us all rhyme,
You're such an amazing talker, you don't get worse with time.
Now if you excuse him, he's running out of rhyming,
Just like the Cat in the Hat, which the Nostalgia Critic reviewed with great timing.
He will go now before my rhymes get real bad,
But hey, at least they'll be a lot better than the movies Doug Walker saw as a lad.
So now he goes and gets ready to sleep, after getting a quick bite,
As he leaves this comment with an incredibly cliched "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night"
(And yes, my rhymes were pretty much forced and unfunny,
but we can't all be as good as professionals whether they get paid money.)
Top marks for this video's grade A rhyming.
I think this must have been the earliest instances I've seen of a nostalgia critic video playing with it's subject matter a little bit more.
I liked this movie because Jim Carrey preformance was hillarious
This is probably my favorite review of the critic's. Mostly because I agree with everything he says about the movie, and because he kept the whole rhyme thing going the whole time.
I've watched this too many times I keep catching myself rhyming in my head and reading everything in rhyming DX
People actually like this movie? I just....I can't.....ugh humanity you never cease to amaze or disappoint me.
Most of humanity hates DBZ but I still love it regardless.
This movie has a spot in my heart. Feel free to ask why. And hello once again.
Justin Lafser
Hello other person I sometimes run into.
16 Bit Hero
Oh you proto-hipster.
Justin Lafser
That line was meant for 16Bit Hero, they’ll get the joke…if they know whats good for them. /threat
Also my god you're young.
For me it just isn't Christmas without watching this movie.
19:19 ‘Nah, I’m right, they’re wrong.’
Behold, ladies and gentlemen, 80% of the biggest problems with the show summed up in just that one sentence!
P.S: great video, anyway! 3:)
It's actually a tradition in my family to watch this every year, so maybe I'm biased to say that I love this movie. It's more dear to me than the animated one tbh
Man, I lost it at 1:23. That mirrors the animated version's motion style perfectly.
I remember nothing but frustration when I watched this as a kid, Grinch is an annoying ass and the stupid noses pissed me off.
The message at the end of the review... There are so many RUclips commentors that should learn that lesson.
"The grump spent his time hating the flix" I love that line
The Grump... what a perfect name for Nostalgic Critic.
So, it's apart of my childhood right there.
your not alone.
Jim Carrey was the best part of the movie, everything else ranged from meh to downright tedious.

*Get ready for a brony back lash (Basically what makes ponies intolerable)
lol I don't care about the backlash, A grown man that enjoys cartoon ponies insulting me is like being called a "poopy head" by a 4 year old.
First Bieber or pony fan to reply ladies and gents!
***** I don't think writing a post over 20 lines long declaring that all fans are not "bitchy" is working in your favor. Especially over something as little as this. Apathy; why don't you try it?
***** It was a suggestion. Just future reference so you do not get involved in further arguments with idiots in the comment section.
Sorry Critic... I loved this movie. I really did. Gave a lot of depth to the original story without ruining the lesson. In fact, I think they portray the lesson very well in this.
Loved the intro and how he redid the cartoon. And the attempt at the big ass smile lmao
He foreshadowed The Lorax, The Last Airbender and The Cat in the Hat?
I guess Doug doesn't know what Taylor Momsen does now. I say she got way better
honestly I've just rediscovered her 1 she's fronting a metal band, 2 she's sexy as all hell but honestly watching the review it's like jesus
Eye liner is a bit much but all things considered you sir have a point
And apparently Doug doesn't know that Yertle the Turtle is based on Adolf Hitler. Otherwise he never would've said that quote, "Seuss was never child-friendly."
You know, the Chuck Jones Grinch was so classic, and so perfect, that we didn't even attempt to remake it-Ron Howard
Then why are you directing this at ALL!-Doug Walker
I like the live-action version of The Grinch. Though I do like the animated version better, I still like the other version and find it fun to watch and a different take on the story. I also like the new versions of The Lorax and Horton Hears a Who. They were slightly different takes and I liked them for that. :) Usually I prefer a movie to stick to the book, but sometimes it's better to not and it just works.
