Thank you for the video! A couple of clarifying questions - does the dhcp server mechanism on the switch only require the interface of the VLAN to be set to an IP matching the dhcp pool to apply the automatic assignment to clients within that VLAN? Say you didnt want VLAN 20 to get assignments from the switch, but maintain static addresses - would you just avoid creating a pool for VLAN 20 or is there something else that occurs that applies the pool to the VLAN? While studying for CCNA I was seeing that VLAN 1 is the default on the switches - would devices on VLAN 1 also start getting address assignments from the dhcp pool?

Sorry for the late response, but yeah the switch will give out addressing from the matching interface VLAN. You are also correct that you could just not create a pool for VLAN 20, or you could type in the static addresses through the "ip dhcp excluded-address" command if you wanted to use DHCP but still have some static addresses as well. VLAN 1 would get addresses from the dhcp pool if the interface VLAN 1 matched a configured pool on the switch. By default, all of the ports on a switch are in VLAN 1.

Hi, great video, what software are you using to set this up as a virtual lab?
