Your version of th Cathedral Window Quilt is so much easier to sew. I did it by hand for a 14"-14" pillow. This will never ever happen again.

I remember my grandmother doing one of these by hand in the early 1970s. If I'm not mistaken, my mothers oldest sister got it after Gran died. Every sibling got a quilt and as I was the first grandchild to marry, she made me a "trip around the world" for my wedding present. It was the last quilt she made before she passed away.

that is incredible! I love the sewing machine method because I hate hand sewing too. most of the videos I've seen involved hand sewing which puts it out of reach for me

    Love the short cuts.
I started a cathedral window quilt when my daughter had a twin bed ... only used machine for the white pieces putting them together, sewing on in long strips, then hand sewed all the squares in.
She then went to a Full sized bed before I finished, so I added more rows of the white muslin and kept adding squares. She has now moved in with her boyfriend, so I need to add some more strips of muslin. I’m keeping this pink, light blue and lavender, and kind of try for a pattern, changing with every edge. It definitely pays to get all the muslin at once, but as I said, I keep having to alter the size, LOL, so I have a few squares of “white” muslin that aren’t exactly the same color of white.
    Thank you for sharing

*_Hi Collette....I had same issue with the white not matching on this quilt....I made sure It was the same barcode number/ color of white but since it wasn't from the same bolt- it didn't match perfectly. I think I'm the only one that can tell though. That's wonderful that you keep adding on to the quilt as the situation changes 💟_*

Hi! Judy Hammack here. I live in Ardmore, OK. I just discovered your channel. While I love all kinds of crafts and have taught myself many of them, sewing is my all time favorite. Happy am 67 years old and have been sewing since I was 6-8 when my mother taught me on a Singer treadle machine. I am just getting into quilting. I have always wanted to do a cathedral window quilt. Watching this video has inspired me to want to proceed. However, I have so man projects that I need to finish first. I am as sitting at a table in my sewing room working on a diamond painting for my grandsons at 8:07 tonight. We are in a winter storm warning and have gotten quite a bit of sleet and are expecting snow tomorrow. We don’t have this cold very often. Pretty cold at wind chill of around 21. Not as bad as further north, but that is why we live in south central Ok. Loved the video. Your quilt is absolutely stunningly gorgeous!!!!!

Great question Cynthia✅- Everytime I would sew traditional way-they would end up not lining up.....would be "wonky"...so it frustrated me! LOL! With the zig zag- it became predictable and If I saw it wasn't lining up then I could shift slightly to even up✅ Hope that answered your question🤓

    • @TheSewingChannel

Good morning Carol. When hand tacking I’m only tacking points and 1 layer right next to points. (So don’t add the back layer in this step). On question 2- are you laying it in the right place? It’s placed over the zig zags not the hand tacked part. If it’s not covering then you may have went to far with your hand tacking. Tacked part needs to be very very small. Let me know if that helps✅

Gorgeous! My friend started her cathedral window quilt the same time I started a star quilt for my son....about 25 years ago. She just finished hers so that means I need to finish mine.

This is STUNNING!!!!! I promised my husband’s grandmother that I would make a cathedral window quilt one day. I’ve made two baby quilts; one, completely by hand for my niece, and one, by machine for my great niece. I’ve always wanted to make one for myself…you have inspired me to try. Thank you!!!

Wow! What a beautiful quilt. I have wanted to make a cathedral window quilt for a long time but didn't want to do all the hand sewing. Your tutorial is brilliant. Adding this to my list of future projects. Thank you thank you for sharing! ❤

What an amazing quilt! 🩷Beautiful job! What a keepsake this will be. Your way is different than I learned, but I like that it is backed and quilted as you go. 😊Thank you for sharing your experience.

You just made my life so much easier!! I learned from a video where you had to edge it on a cardboard and iron iron and iron. I never could get the centers perfect so I always had to sew on buttons. They always turned out beautiful, but such a lengthy process. I make memory cathedral pillows quite often, so this is a life/timesaver! Thank you so much. ❤

This is beautiful! I've been trying different ways to sew cathedral windows. I've seen this way, and just before you attach the flaps, they would slip a5" square under, so there was a colorful background, same color or scrappy, then the polyfil under the picture fabric, then sewing the frame around the picture. This method seems to be less bumpy, lumpy. That's what I've been running into... thick seams and/or lumps where the seams meet. Love your quilt ❤😊

    Well done.
You have great discipline. Your quilt is stunningly beautiful.
I remember seeing this quilt with the edges not sewn shut, the high thread count cotton freyed as with washing or pulling threads on napkins. The white fabric made a soft frame for the many colored pieces Including velvets & satins.

I was inspired by your cathedral window quilt. I loved your technique. I have just finished a quilt with your video for guidance. I’m hanging onto it for a little while as I think my granddaughter is a little too young for it at the moment. I know she will love it. I’d love to send a photo. Not sure how,

Gorgeous!! What size background square would you use if you wanted to use a larger window square, for instance, a 3 or 3.5” square. Just wondering how the math works. Thanks again for sharing your beautiful work and showing us this method!

Love this quilt i’ve looked at other tutorials, but I like yours the best. The question I have is how many windows did you put across the top and how many down if you could please let me know that that would be great. Thanks again for this tutorial, I love it.

I really like your method. I've said for years that before the Lord calls me home I'd like to make a cathedral window quilt!
Your finished quilt looks amazing, however the white circles in between appear to me to make the quilt look unfinished.

One of the most beautiful quilts i have ever seen.. I was wondering if I could keep adding the blocks around and around the outside, (kinda log-cabin style), if this would avoid fighting to get to in the center.

*_Thank you so much mammondee!💜I never thought to do it that way....you could try a small sample and see if works? As I think about it in theory-it seems like it would totally work.....if you try it -please let me know✅_*

That would be a good idea, except your still going to sew around each of your 2 1/2 inch squares. I would probably do it by 6-8 sections. After I finished those, then I'd sew them them all together so I wouldn't have such a big section all together.
