I predict that all reviews will be glowing, like when any new fork from fox or RS is released. Then 6 months later forums will be full of people complaining about harsh damping once again. It's pretty funny.
That's the media cycle, people who bought Kia's and Hyundai didn't realize journalists didn't have to live with the cars and pay for maintenance... Bikes are about the same, a personal example is assuming big brands like Giant will provide timely warranty fixes, in many bike comparative tests they mention that as if new riders would magically benefit from a good local dealer who doesn't want to screw them and has competent techs. Same bs as in the automotive industry, moral of the story journalists provide a product review, not ownership experience. There's Reddit for that 😂
Very true! Sadly our job is more to cover news and also offer the most honest impressions and thoughts on products while also offering our best insight to how they’ll do for various riders and users. But, we simply can’t keep all these products for 1,2,3 years and put the same miles on them that an owner does who’s only bike(product) is the one in question. We do our best to give the truth, but long term owner experiences can and usually will vary greatly.
My first suspension fork was a used Marzocchi 500 worth my mom's weekly salary and I sold the cro mo fork on my Avalanche for a whole 40$, inflation apart things don't change that much... 😂
I want to upgrade my ROCKSHOX 35 GOLD RL. I’ve I’m relatively new, only been riding for two years , but I have become obsessed. I absolutely love it, every spare time I have outside of work I’m riding, I hit jumps and do roughly 4 foot drops regularly. So my question is, if i did upgrade my fork with the fox 36 performance elite with the Grip X damper. Would there be a noticeable increase in my bikes performance? I’ve never ridden on a high-end fork before, so if you experience riders could give me some advice that would be awesome!
If they kept the "wide adjustment range", there is no adjustment range, the current GRIP 2 vvc with completely closed HSC and LSC has the same compression damping as my Mezzer with shims removed, which works optimally, I weigh 55kg...
Already reading that the Grip X makes a loud sucking noise after half-stroke from one tester, and another tester said it's quieter than Grip2, any opinion on that? Both said Grip X2 was totally silent.
any word on how the sl damper rides compared to the fit4? seems they went backwards with offering low compression on the fit4 lockout version compared to the open closed of the grip sl
So could the grip X be dropped into a Marzocchi (if desired)? Building an MTB for the first time in like 10 years. I’ll probably be fine with the stock Z1, just curious…
Enduro Mag said that the GRIP X damper was really loud deep in the stroke, yet no one else has mentioned this. What say you? Anything that stood out beyond normal damper sounds?
Ours was on the louder side, but not too crazy. Nothing to put us off when riding. With Robert at 220lbs there's a lot of damping happening too, especially on the rebound stroke. ED: We'll monitor this for the long term test to see if that changes over time!
unlikely. but marketing dept. found some new words to attach to a very similar fork, or more likely they found a way to reduce cost and number of parts and market it is as a revolution.
@@TheLoamWolf I can't agree I compared a 2014 pike on my old bike to factored fox and the damper performance at speed was so poor had to have it custom set up
That's the beauty of options! Another rider may dislike that Pike and the Fox but love their DVO or SR Suntour product. We all ride in different areas and with different preferences for feel! Luckily there's more than just 1 brand making suspension products for us all.
The trail x damper is a step backwards, nobody flips levers anymore. Trail riding or enduro, if you set your fork up correctly, you don’t need to change it
It’s lighter than Grip 2 and more adjustable and better performing than Fit 4, so we’d say it’s likely better for trail riders regardless. Can go for Grip X2 if you don’t think the climb platform is beneficial for your riding.
Don't care for the color theme but it's fun to see something different forks are boring af to look at all the same 3 colors, almost all my forks get painted lowers at the first service... Only my 2016 boxxer rc is still unpainted, stickers removed of course because these decals are hateful, idk what sram was thinking with that font...😂

Life is a comedy to those who think.
Reminds me of the optics of my first suspension fork, the RockShox Mag 21. Yes, I'm old. 😂
Drew remembers too… (no comment on his age)
Me too, although the one on my bike was painted from factory in the frame color (Klein Attitude in gator colourway).

😂
This will be 30% better for 10% of riders, 5% of the time
I love to try that trail damper

Wait, the new 32 has a reverse arch? wow, so Manitou was right all along. I wonder what else they are right about....
They've gone full, kashima. Is it ever good to go full of anything?
Yes, always go full everything! haha
@@TheLoamWolfNot according to Robert Downy JR in Tropic Thunder
They really went full R word on these didn’t they !!
I like them! I imagine they can also be fitted into Marzochi forks
It’s the same fitment as previous gen Fox!
You got to enjoy some of our local Norcal trails!

Fox sure is flogging this newer stuff. Like 5 different mtb channels have this same PR spiel
That's typically how it works when media outlets who cover news, all have to abide by the same release date for that news feature to be released.

Will this damper fit previous year forks?
Yes!

@@TheLoamWolf Thanks! I'm 210lbs and have a 34 Podium Gold 140mm being delivered tomorrow..... Gold Jerry.... GOLD!!
They look SO good in the flesh. Enjoy it!
Holy Batman the new forks are sold out already
Have they finally addressed mid valve choking?
unlikely. but marketing dept. found some new words to attach to a very similar fork, or more likely they found a way to reduce cost and number of parts and market it is as a revolution.
Yes, as evidenced by the gold lowers. Next generation improvements on the drawing board: sequins.
Needs more cowbell!
Anything available for the 40?
Grip X2 will be fitted to the 40 now.
Not digging the brass colour lowers. Looks cheap like the hubs on my old Brass and STP dirt jumpers
They’ll be available in black too if you’re not a fan.
I like it, should look extremely cool on an SB140 in Sangria...
I don't mind the color but the kashima makes it look like a dude wearing a skin tan shirt. Would look better with black stanchions.
Yep - too much. Needs contrast.
Worst colour choice ever, great choices in the past with mint, betroot, orange…
Soooooo beautiful
Sure is a looker!
I still maintain as a factory fox owner they justarent a patch on rockshox.
Interesting, we’d say they have their pros and cons and a different feel but are well matched overall!

Nah, will pass. Small bump on my last 2 36 Performance Elites was terrible. Sticking with RS.
Interesting. These are extremely supple.
