Love how Levi said “watch us” at the end because when Hange asked him if he believes their fallen soldiers are watching over them he didn’t want to admit he does
Actually that's a reference to the Levi's spin off manga where she meets Levi, Furlan and Isabel and she says: "I've watching all of you" that's why Levi says that as a way to say goodbye to her.

It's worth noting that the animation quality, length, and complexity here makes it clear that the animation studio put this sequence on the same level as one of Levi's fights. That says a LOT about how awesome Hange is and how epic this moment is intended to be.
Side note, this comment says a lot about just how epic Levi is. Like something just being animated on the same level as his fights already means its an extremely epic moment.
Well, they saved the best for last. Wish the production schedule was more merciful to the animators for this level of quality in the earlier parts of Season 4.

You can really see the sadness on Levi's face. He did not want to lose her too. She was the last of his original scout group. Its so sad.

I'm sure she was a little scared, anyone would be knowing they are about to die. But when Levi says, "give your heart", I think she was running on pure adrenaline after that, she experienced a fearless death. She wasn't eaten or trampled, she felt pain for a few moments when she caught fire but as soon as her ODM gear exploded I'm sure her death was instant. Going out in an explosion, saving your friends lives, and the OST just sets it all over the top. MAPPA you nailed it.
Armin reaction is deeper because he knew how it felt...
Armin got slowly burnt, Hange's gas canister literally exploded mid swing. I think she didn't suffer that much

Fr. I knew she was gonna die in the anime since it happened in the manga but it was just still so heartbreaking to see her go after sasha died it was as if she was the only positive one left. Then she died too.

Hange's such an awesome character. Not super-powered like the Ackermans or the titans but still pretty damn strong, super-smart, one of the few characters with an active sense of humor, and now, IMHO, she has the coolest animated death in the series.

What hurts the most about the situation is they had practically zero time to properly grieve the loss of Hange immediately after. They hopelessly and helplessly watch her down blazing but had to move on to focus on their plan of attack. God I can’t imagine how deeply traumatizing this would be to experience. And Hange was the only one who got to rest.
I had already seen this scene in the Manga, but wow... seeing this scene in the Anime made me shed a tear, they really made this scene much more beautiful, epic and sad.
The manga ending genuinely is so shit
Her death was sad, but dare I say satisfying? She finally got her reprieve after years of leading the scouting legion, a role suddenly thrust into her hands which she never quite felt at home with. A commander of the Scouting Legion, an ambassador between nations, and the leader of a group of misfits - but she was a scientist, first and formost. She was able to live her final moments both fulfilling her mission and facing down the creatures she had loved most. For all of Eren's talk about freedom, at that moment, Hange was the freest person in the world.

Hearing bauklötze for this scene was unexpectedly perfect. A season 1 scout ost brought back to give a sense of nostalgic glamour that the scouts once represented. Absolute sacrifice, and the will to throw away one's entire self and heart to keep moving forward. Beautiful work.
This entire sequence is awesome, but the last 30 seconds was just impeccable directing. A temporary tuning down of the music to represent the confusion and denial, followed with a powerful return of the vocals to represent the outburst of grief and sadness by the characters as they witness the death of a comrade. They did something similar with Sasha's death too.
While WIT perfectly portrays the horrors of fighting Titans in its direction of death scenes, MAPPA perfectly encapsulates the grief and intense emotions of people who lose someone they care about.
One of the best death of the series.
I feel that Hange has got enough of the complexity of the situation and is genuinely glad to take the exit now, in the very simple old scout way: killing some huge steamy titans for comrades.
It almost feels like back to the old days. Crual and harsh and tragic, but simple.
And with the old Ost it gives that nostalgia even more

3:28 the way she falls down burning after such an hopeless battle, the way jean and connie look at her and everyone crying AND THAT HELL OF AN OST. This scene is literally perfect. The lyrics at this moment says "ich will nicht verlieren" what translated means "i don't want to lose", that just makes it way sadder.
Man even though i got this spoilered, this was by far the best scene in this part and maybe one of the best moments in this whole series
I'm kinda sad that they didn't put the lyric that said "we'll let this hot wind take our feathers" (I don't remember if it translates exactly to that), but not disappointed in the slightest because they demonstrated it perfectly!!!

I loved this scene too but for me it doesn't quite beat Armin's sacrifice scene when he says "Eren will see the sea!".
She dies a badass, saving her friends and partners. And gets to watch after them in the afterlife with her old friends.
We should all be so lucky.

I love how Levi says "watch us" when she dies. Since it was Hange who asked Levi if their comrades could see them from above. He knew they were always watching. Being that he didn't answer her question and she then found out first hand that they were indeed always watching. I felt he might have bitten his tongue in that moment, leaving it for her to find out herself, savoring the beautiful moment when she realized it was true.
You'd have to have a heart of steel to not cry to this scene. RIP Hange, you were the best Titan Fanatic.

Attack on Titan author and animators really does have the best sequences and music choices when it comes to impactful moments in the manga. We’ve seen the titan transformation/slicing titans nape throughout the whole series but they still make these experiences fresh and lovable even this late into the anime. Just gotta respect their dedication towards it.
It takes the bravest kind of person to stare death right in the face and still charge forward. Hange really had the most heroic death.
A lot of people didn't get the reference in this scene 😕 back when Keith Sadis told the scouts the reason he retired was because he wasn't special and Hanji lost respect for him because he was supposed to give his heart like the other soldiers he led to death. The reason Hanji sacrificed herself was to atone for her own sins because while she was in command, the military was in shambles, and many died. She noticed Keith had finally sacrificed himself. That's why she told Levi it was her turn. She really meant what she said and lived by her own sword 💔

this hurts so fucking much, but Levi’s goodbye, “from give your heart” to “so long hanje, watch us” absolutely breaks me, this will go down as one of the greatest anime of all time, from the writing (obviously because of the manga) to the ost, to the voice attacking, to the visuals, breathtaking, beautiful, extremely powerful and on and on. RIP Hanje!
I think one the biggest things that really made this scene sad, was that fact that we didn’t see her smile like she usually does in so long, that we forgot she used to do it so often.

A truly wonderful and well written character. I truly respect Hange as a leader and a woman.
She is one of the last professionals, one of the most experienced titan killer machine. And without unique genetics like Levi. All her strength comes from experience. When she saw that the plane is still not ready, you can feel the desperation. And the cut to the plane with the music was epic. They reached freedom, thanks to Hange.
Hell she's probably the best non-titan/ackerman Titan killer in that group.

I honestly don't think I've ever seen Levi so close to tears. Normally he's stoic to the point of barely having any outward emotional reaction to anything at all, but he actually looked mournful for once, and you could hear his voice faltering when he said "watch us." Might be the most emotion he's ever shown for someone's death, which just goes to show how utterly crushing Hange's death was for him on the inside. With her gone, he's the last living member of the Survey Corps from before the 104th joined. Hiroshi Kamiya killed it.
The most emotion he's ever shown is for Erwin.
@@cherrydaiquriii Well, he was angry over Erwin's death and went on a rampage. He didn't allow any vulnerability for even a moment. He was laser-focused on fulfilling his promise to Erwin to kill the Beast Titan and never really allowed himself any moments of vulnerability or any time to mourn when Erwin died. I'm saying this is the most vulnerability we've ever seen from Levi. The guy's going through a lot right now. He's having to come to terms with the fact that his injuries are making him not as strong as he used to be, to the point where even he acknowledges that he needs help to kill Zeke now. On top of that, when Hange died, he didn't just lose a close friend and comrade. Levi has literally lost everyone. He is all that is left of the original Survey Corps from season 1. Everybody else is dead now except for him. I suspect that when he says "watch us," he doesn't just mean Hange, but everyone who he has lost up to this point.

Hange went out in a literal blaze of glory 😢😢😢... But I'm glad to be able to witness the (almost) end of this artistic masterpiece. WOW, what a ride these last 10 years of AoT have been! Anime of the decade?

Hange was gripping the sword even while she was falling from the sky.
I seriously did not expect how her final moments would hit me emotionally even though I knew how it will turn out because of the manga. Bauklötze was a phenomenal choice as her parting requiem. It was almost like she sung it herself. MAPPA seriously outdid themselves with this masterpiece of an episode. Breathtaking.
Am I the only one who feels happy for Hange? They succeeded in not only buying enough time for their friends to get the flying boat in the air, and they managed to go out looking as cool as possible!

Yea the manga messed this part up. Glad Isayama had them change it. In the manga she barely kills 1 and dies in a dumb way without even really helping to stall them
She was fighting for one hour, so it's likely she killed much more than it looks
@@kleinjadebonilla9162 just because it showed 3 doesn't mean a thing, she could've easily killed the same amount there as to the show, but since it's a book, it doesn't have the time nore necessity to show it all, it just has to at least show that yes, she did kill some before dying
Hange zoë is a legend. Legends never die. She was a real hero.. I’m so proud of this 14th Commander 🩷 And she was my only favourite character.
not all heroes wearing cape. some of them just let it get burnt, so the light would inspire the next heroes
She looked relieved sacrificing herself. I'm sure when she became commander and seeing how so many things have gone wrong she must've been beyond stressed. Surprised her entire head isn't covered in white hair.
At least she gets to relax now and meet her fallen comrades.
I think Erwin had it just as hard but it’s the world they knew .

And even after such a sad thing(Hange's death), they made us happy by showing us she joined Erwin and others an is now happy
I agree. After seeing her burning corpse fall. I was like okay I get it I didn't need to see that but when I saw the afterlife scene right after I was okay with that. This was truly a bittersweet scene. If the show hasn't already won some, it definitely should win some awards. This story is unlike any other I've seen and I watch a lot of great animes.
She could have survived when she went into the water.....
@@rizalinemoun7730 I don't think she made it to the water if you look at the afterlife scene there was a large titan footprint right below her I don't think she made it to the water. Even if by some small chance she survived the explosion and the fall she was most likely crushed. Would have been nice if she did though would have gave a possibility that she survived.

She died as she lived: a madlad to the very end. RIP Hange. Even knowing it was coming was still utterly gut-wrenching to see her go out in a literal blaze of glory.
Best death in the series in my opinion. She gave her life for the most noble cause there was and fulfilled her mission, to save humanity from the Titans.
I like the adaptation for Hange's death. I never understood how Hange delayed the rumbling long enough for the plane to get into the air by only taking down 3 in the manga but the anime showed how they did it

Characters like Hange are extremely rare in anime. The devotion they show and how their character doesn't shift his beliefs until the very last moment it's remarkable.

From the Levi OVA to her final moment...Hange was hange. She never changed her beliefs or morals and held on to them and suffered through them. It just shows static characters can suffer and be just and be just as good as dynamic chatacters.
I knew this would happen and yet I still cried I loved this character

I think that part that broke me the most was how Connie and Jean were trying to get a last glimpse of her . They were trying not to lose sight on her and she goes out like a champ. And as soon as they can’t see her they breakdown and so did I
I love the respect from Levi and Hange to each other. When she died and Levi said Hange, I felt that.
Hange was an amazing character: funny, strong, smart, a bit freaky with the titans but that's the way she was and it was charming and lovely, at least for me.
She sacrificed herself and fought until she got completely burnt

We never in the entire show get to see Hange's skills in full display and the time we finally get to witness how much of a bad ass she is , is when she dies sacrificing herself.
