He is a great writer, a powerful thinker, and he addresses issues we should all be concerned about. He is willing to stand up to government officials who simply don't listen. He is a man for the people, the unnoticed people who aren't wealthy.
He is not a man for the people. And he is not a man to lead an environmental movement. He is an effete Eastern know-it-all who likes to pretend that he is one of the regular folk who earn a living by the sweat of their brow. But he doesn't face any bill collectors beating down his door. Rather he is a liberal intellectual from the politically correct university circuit. Why doesn't he try speaking to a coal industry executive respectfully and discuss profit based incentives for the shareholders and stakeholders to transition their investments to nuclear power. This power source could address global warming Now!
Wendall Berry is a great man and a great poet. I detected some Rumi in one of the poems. I wonder if he had read any Rumi before he wrote that poem in which he talks about God being dead, then God being alive, etc. The main thing he addressed (other than the actual poems) which I found to be of interest is making a living without having to make "a killing." We have a consumption problem. I don't know whether we have a population problem. Maybe we do. But when you combine a consumption problem with genuine overpopulation you quickly depleate everything. At least that seems to be the case.
Wendell is a truth teller. His words sound like scripture for the Holy Scriptures and the Truths of God's general revelation to man through the created world, is inseparably weaved throughout his thoughts, and his pen. He is pointing us - back to the land - back to The Maker, and His order of things.
Certainly this man is being studied by the Nobel committee. These are not complicated ideals. They are simple truths which one can go anywhere and observe. Question is: When will it matter enough to our species to do something about it?
Hearts must be changed. Neither the liberals nor conservatives offer any answers. Pass a law, enact a program, blah blah blah. Materialism is sucking us dry and we are like the suckers in the classic movie They Live. We want more, more, more.
it's not disingenuous, I think it's reality. Liberals promote and defend the modern, destructive city life to the death. They believe in "environmentalist" and "sustainable" capitalism to solve problems, and are unwilling to "take action" as WB says and get their hands dirty. The minute they do, and go back to millenia-old values and try to restore our connection to life, they in a sense cease to be liberals. And the conservative, pro-capitalists that defend the interests of the corporations and the elites, if/when they also take action, and place life over profit and value the natural world and community over "individual liberty" and "property rights," become a bit more liberal. I think there is currently a thick level of nastiness covering both sides of the coin, but if you scratch away enough at either side, you can find good.
As a cattle rancher I think there is a balance between modern and traditional ag. I have heard claims of how rotational and mob grazing can replace fertilizer but I have never had much success with it or equaled what a little nitrogen will do for a pasture.
Perhaps your knowledge of Regenerative Agriculture is limited. And perhaps… further learning with experienced individuals outside of the circles of which you revolve might be helpful. I wish you all the success in this pursuit.
Berry is an incredible force. It's interesting to see very few people of color in this production. Berry, I believe challenges power, and I believe including those that do not look like berry is critical to change. So please include others so we don't have a monoculture.
Skin colour is just that, skin colour. It means nothing else. I don’t think we should put people in or out of something because of the amount of melanin in their skin. You should perhaps try to start ignoring the colour of peoples skin.

Should we worry that the ladies will have their petticoats soiled? The other environmental deprivation of mountain top mining is the poisoned water that will deprive the local people of the most vital resource of their lives, safe drinking water, and therefore habitable communities. Which one are you fighting for Mr. Berry?
Didn'post my response for some reason. I'm guessing you're anti-GMO. Do you not realize every source of food has been genetically modified in some way? Botanists brees flowers to produce new flowers. Ancient agricultural civilizations bred corn. The only difference is where the modification is performed. In a lab, the genes can be modified more accurately and more efficiently. If you're as open-minded as you claim to be and you trust the majority of science, go look at the thousands of peer-reviewed articles that all corroborate each other independently. Look at the articles that have been repealed, all of those have been anti-GMO. Diversity is great, but you can't deny science.
