Fab old hog... I was amazed to find out that Harley had overhead valves such as the knucklehead way back then... Makes me wonder why the Flathead 45 was so popular and to a lesser extent the Flathead 80... Anyway you guys have an ideal business...
I just picked up an original rusty 38 yesterday in Maryland. The welded brake stay is period correct right? I can't remember if I read that in Palmers book if it was 39 or 38 and a check 3 frame
+Mario Maldo That is an accessory light bar that came out, roughly, in 1926. It was a standard accessory offered by Harley through their accessory catalogs through much of the 1930's. They are not so very common today. This design is considered "art deco" in nature. Why they designed it to look this way, it was simply the artistic expression of the time. People years ago would often ride their kid on the gas tank in front of them. HD and accessory companies even sold front seats and pads for the tanks from the teens through the 1960's. Laws today forbid this. Today, people have to be PC and "safe". People also used the bars to mount various accessory lights and other items.
Very true,Like you said back in the 60's 70's 80's them vintage h-d parts were all over. put can't you tell if it is not from the stock frame just the way it looks in the frame the routing of the electrical lines and etc.
all signs are, right now, that they were NOS original paint when mounted. I could be in for a surprise when I get them off, but I doubt it. Either way, I will record what I find and upload it here.
damn,iv been selling homemade crossbars, wow,i like that one, never ever sceen one like it ,do u know where i can get pics ? can u give me specs ? i see 2 treaded holes im guessing for spotlights or mirrors but what is that ball ????
I am planning to pull the tanks to derust them and clean the petcocks. I am positive they are NOS, but pulling them will tell the full tale. As far as I can determine, that frame came with that motor. But a lot of things can happen in 76 years that are not always so easy to discern. Lots of people have bikes they are sure came with that frame, but actually did not. I only have history on this one back to the 1980's. As I said in one of the videos, without day of sale photo's and a bill of sale or invoice showing the motor number, we are all assuming about ANY bike.
+steve kwall I did, there are videos on this. I need to have a special tool to figure out the paint on the tanks which I do not have. i have been able to trace the history of the bike since new now, waiting on pictures before I can make another video.
Hey Todd! I dig it, big time! so with all of these beautiful old machines that you own, which one is your favorite? I recently made that move to MA, how's business in CA?
HuntingHarleys haha, I hear ya; this is a good bike to have as a favorite. has the cost of operations always outweighed the profits you made? I would have thought recent profits would be decent with all the shelf cleaning you've done

WOW! What a GEM! And that sound... oh my goodness!
My 2013 Heritage is just so far from this already... what a shame...
had to sub this...
The only thing Harley has in common today with it's heritage are a 45 degree Vtwin engine and the name. Sad, but corporate greed takes it's toll.
HuntingHarleys True... Having said that... I love my 2013 corporate greed ass Harley :-)
whats with that big bar across the handle bars for ? and why a round steel ball in the center ? what is theirs purpose ?
+Mario Maldo That is an accessory light bar that came out, roughly, in 1926. It was a standard accessory offered by Harley through their accessory catalogs through much of the 1930's. +HuntingHarleys I like old harleys the new harley is not a harley it a porche with harley logos and fancy paint
Very true,Like you said back in the 60's 70's 80's them vintage h-d parts were all over. put can't you tell if it is not from the stock frame just the way it looks in the frame the routing of the electrical lines and etc.

damn,iv been selling homemade crossbars, wow,i like that one, never ever sceen one like it ,do u know where i can get pics ? can u give me specs ? i see 2 treaded holes im guessing for spotlights or mirrors but what is that ball ????
it is in HD's accessories catalogs from the 1930's. Here are some pix of the 38 www.flickr.com/photos/34150794@N04/sets/72157638680642294/
sweetness!!!
wonder why it even had the crossba ?
Todd, did you ever pull the tanks to see if they are nos tanks ? Was that motor in that frame from the factory? did't see any videos on that.
I am planning to pull the tanks to derust them and clean the petcocks. I am positive they are NOS, but pulling them will tell the full tale. Sweet!
Hey Todd! I dig it, big time!
so with all of these beautiful old machines that you own, which one is your favorite?
I recently made that move to MA, how's business in CA?
biz is DEAD here. The "problem" is that the cost of operations outweigh any profit. The newest one is always the favorite :)
HuntingHarleys haha, I hear ya; this is a good bike to have as a favorite.

***** those parts where sold at a HUGE loss
