I've only been into HEMA for a few months, but in that time I've consumed hours and hours of RUclips content around the MA/Sport. This is one of the best videos I've come across. Your opponent moves the sword so beautifully its like an extension of his body. But your reserved and calculated style bested it. Really cool example of two different styles. Just like in tennis, ping pong, or volleyball, I love to see a good "volley" and not just exchanges that are over in 0.5 seconds.

Your opponent has fantastic flow and he looks great. He definitely drills and trains very hard and is very practised, really strong skills and light on his feet. But you stayed calm and didn't get put off by the fancy moves. Smart fencing - congrats on the win. Amazing mask btw.

A very nice video about adapting to the opponent. Sure there didn't seem to be any counter adapting, but still quite textbook thinking. Glad I've watched it! :D

Good plan, although you might have an issue with such tactic when there is an actual limited fighting space. Your opponent is really an advanced beginner at best, but still dangerous and that measured approach was a good plan.

@@borislavkrustev8906 if i had limited space i would have used a different tactic. Also assuming he is a beginner off just my fight with him is not a fair assement. He has won tournaments before and i would not say his is a beginner or he would not have that fluidity. Alot of times when i fight people , others think they are a beginner but they have beatin alot of others. The way i fight i counter what they are good at so it just shows what they are bad at so i dont think thats a fair assement. Ill be posting other video break downs fighting high caliber opponents who have won a ton of tournaments and it looks the same in alot. Its not fully fair to judge people off video footage imo but i appreciate the comment

@@novacombatarts I did say advanced beginner :) Sure, there is fluidity there, but you can achieve that in a year of practice, and personally, at least in your fight, I only see him being good at chaining cuts and nothing else. The parrying he displayed is shit, no thrusting game, zero tactical sense.
Maybe you just made him look much worse than he is, good job then :)

@@borislavkrustev8906 his tactics werent bad in a first to 5 strikes landed fight and it got him to the finals. Getting in close and winning off mobility and landing alot of shots fast, which is what he was good at and would play to his strengths. Most people in long sword rush in and zwerch and cut a bunch. His way of fighting against that type of fighter which is most long sword fighters wouldn have been to bad for him. Also Thrusts are more risky in a fight to 5 consecutive points when you can chain multiple cuts for faster point scoring if fighting to win by rule set and not martially. His error imo wasnt his original tactic but in failing to adapt and change his plan. Expecially after fighting me in the semi he should have completly changed strats. Also def could have done some more parrying not gunna lie lol

@@novacombatarts Most longsword fencers also suck :)
Wait, do you mean the ruleset allows multiple scoring action within a single exchange?? Then his actions make more sense, but it also is a bit of a stupid ruleset.

@@borislavkrustev8906 yes the rule set was first to 5 strikes no reset. Honestly its one of my least favorite rule sets and usually leads to messy fencing. Its a rule set better suited for armored combat but still fun to get to participate in something different then the usual. Also yes most long sword fencers do suck not gunna lie lol.
