Your reviews are just so perfectly succinct and to the point in 3 minutes - this a real skill of distilling the most core concepts into great, clear presentation, with nice editing and sound to boot. So well done, thank you for your vids and mahi!
Kia ora Skylar. Appreciate the comment.
I just love a game where I can buy something for triple its list price and feel I've gotten a good deal.
Power Grid might be 15 years old, but its one of those games with staying power. What's something over ten years old that you think still hasn't been beaten in its niche?
Apart from those you mentioned any other suggestion for a more interactive euro that is not a "salad of points" kind of game?
Tricky question as most euros are point salad affairs.
Chinatown?
I'd have to say Peurto Rico, although many would dismiss it I still find it great (playing with the expansions and building drafting). Love love LOVE Power Grid although I kind of like the deluxe version more. I'd love a KS mega power grid with game mats of all the maps ever made and beautiful components.
Agricola (some people consider Caverna an upgrade but I don't). Viticulture. Twilight Imperium.
@@SoberStPete Twilight Imperium is a great game and I bought some of the expansions too. But I think it's more an American board game...
Thanks for this breakdown
Great recap after lots of time since last my play. Thank you!
Excellent! Thank you! I just got it and haven’t played yet
I mean, there are catch up mechanisms in the game... So if you make mistakes early on you can still maybe win.. Its not one of those games where you know the winner half way through... I love how well it scales up... A true classic.. Still one of my top games..
For sure. But those catch-up mechanics don't beat skill that often. Especially once you know how to game them. Using a build to block someone in, but only getting the cities you need.
I frequently play from last place or close if possible until the end game.
Pointlessly elitist comment here Per. Hate to break it to you, but someone liking a game you don't doesn't make them a noob, weak or pitiable. In fact, those choices of words say a lot about you as a person, and it's nothing good. Feel free to attack the game and its systems and mechanics, but not the people who play it.
Be a better person next time Per, or you won't be commenting on here again.
Did you miss the part of the review where i said the catchup mechanics aren't great and that its prone to runway leaders? Also, the bit above where I say the are easy to exploit?
For someone talking about idiots, you seem to be thinking I said something I didn't.
@@diamondmeeple so you think that... So what?? Play chess if randomness is an issue... As far as i know, and i played 400+ different board games, there are not many without a random element.. Lets take stone age like a very good example.. Its very random at its core but still a better player will crush a noob 99 out of 100 times.. Power grid suffers the same problem where the best player will probably win.. But if you take 4 players with similar skill level the mechanisms can help you overtake them if you fall behind.... Many games do not allow such things...
Wow. That guy was warned and doubled down. I have no time for people like that
This video is narrated by the best board game reviewer on RUclips. As a bonus, he has a wonderful Australian accent!
Them's fighting words.
Thanks dude! This is great!
5 can play at that game
;)
6... can play at this game
7... can play this game
Fantastic summary!
Cheers Moe
I lost this game (among several others) in mold incident a few years back. This video reminded me just how much I loved the game. I think it's time to replace it...
Sorry to hear that MissK. Losing games to anything is the worst. I've had several stolen over the years and its never good.
Losing it to mold? Could you have wipe them down? Unless they have really rotted away I guess
I did not skip the add roll - just for you
Funny, was just looking into this with the new refreshed version out soon. Don't think it's for me but definitely still worth a play once.
This looks like a better version of monopoly
In case you missed it in the expansion maps shown: the Netherlands, Poland, Russia and Japan
Thx from 🇳🇴 wonderimg if the app is worth it…great video…since its night when I write this…its better to have it short😊👍🏻
Not played the app, but the game itself is still solid as
I played this for the first time today...I maaaaaay have cause a couple of blackouts towards the end 😂
🎉
Wait, it takes place in the 1950s but the setting is a unified Germany; what?!
Wait, what? I guess.... it is?
The top favorite among my friends
It's the goto in our group, however, 2 hour is a bit generous. What's your favorite expansion?
I'm not really seeing any connection to Concordia except for the increasing building costs.
I played this twice and after getting disappointed from some multiplayer solos I think I really want a game like this. What other game would you suggest?
Concordia is another one, don't have a review of that. The new Empyreal:Spells and steam. Both those and power grid are good network building games
Concordia is my top game (or second after Terraforming mars). I have railwaysnof the world and like it, have to look into this Empyreal :)
Ah, i think if you like concordia and terraforming mars you might like Empyreal. We will have a recap up on it next week.
Also, Gaia project or Terra Mystica. And for something lighter "its a wonderful world"
Yeap, gaia also in my top gakes :) I think my next game should be Navegador/chicago express
If you take requests please review Xia legends of a drift system and its expansions
Only via Patreon. And this was one voted on by the backers.
Although, as I love Xia, it will no doubt appear on the channel at some point.
@@3MBG well i guess the fact you put it in your top 100 games video you made last year with Xia in the top 20 is a good enough review. Thanks and i love the channel
@@3MBG So I bought Xia with all of its expansion packs and my friends and I love it! It's a great game for a group but also has an awesome solo mode. My friends asked me if I knew of any games they could buy for future game nights and i sent them to your channel👍
Think your BGG link is wrong for the game mate, takes me to Farlight
Cheers, I fixed it, but it must not have saved properly. Will change.
Sorted. Should work now
Nice upload. Do you prefer concordia to this? Thanks
I don't think so. I like concordia, but I've played it a lot less than power grid. I'm still deciding :)
I've owned this game for years and never played it.. doh!! I'm surprised it's never been redone tbh.
There's a revised edition coming out soon.
Just want to point out that it’s very prone to AP especially at higher player counts.
I could certainly see that happening. Although it hasn't with the groups i've personally played it with. But our peeps are pretty low AP players for the most part.
wtf is ap
@@ocoro174 analysis paralysis. When it's your turn and you're just trying to decide on your move at that time. Drags the game on when you should be thinking of your move during the other players' turns.

More like about 4 minutes, but still good info.
All Recaps are 3:00 to 3:59 long, Which is why they are "about" 3 minutes.
