We have our rats in our basement. We use the pine pellets as well as the flake. We also use sweet pdz and have a carbon filter. I think you have 1248 rats.
The Mazuri we were getting shipped into our local feed store but now it costs $28.99 a bag here so we switched to Kent Feeds. We buy directly from them now and have it shipped.
My wife bought them at a welding supply store. I dont know the specific name for them. Maybe just show them the video and they can help you out. Thank you!
Apparently apple cider vinegar or vanilla extract in the water also helps cut down on ammonia. I've also seen portable, roll around carbon air filters available online that may help also.
@@reptilefrenzyllc3721 no worries, I can't remember which breeder said it but as I recall it was a cup of vinegar diluted into each 5 gallon bucket they were using as their water reservoirs, and done once a month.
Nice information and I wish I had a separate rodent room.. definitely a long term goal. Another thing that would help a lot is only keeping at most 3 females in each tub... I only let 2 females give birth in each tub but starts with 3 females, the first one to get pregnant and about to give birth goes in the maternity rack by herself and then I rotate the male to another tub after I’m sure the other two got pregnant. Trying to keep a reasonable amount of breeder females in each tub and doing bedding changes every 7 days works well and when I do it this way and don’t have 3-4 females giving birth in the bigger tubs I can actually go 10-12 days without changing but I change every 6-7 days just to keep the ammonia and smell down and it never smells like it does in a few other peoples places I’ve been in. I also do it this way bc I sleep in the same room as my animals and i found out having 2 females give birth and raise there babies in a tub instead of 3-4 there a lot healthier/fatter bc there always getting milk and not piled up all together with one mom ontop only giving 10 babies milk and the other 20-30 having to wait to hope to get a chance at there nipples plus there’s a lot less death and it just works a lot better.. just a view from a different rat breeder that is just letting y’all know how I do it,, been breeding rats for years and got to this point from trial and error and figuring out what works best to produce the healthiest plumped rats especially for there age and not putting to much stress on the moms, not saying anything anyone else is doing wrong but just something to think about. Keep the videos coming and love the rat shed. I’d have to get with breeder rats and babies I’d say you have around 1,300 rats breeders and babies together but it might be around 1,100 if you keep less then 4 breeder females in a tub like I do. Depends on how many breeder moms in each tub and if you keep a male in each tub or rotate like I do

Man that sweet pdz really didnt help us any. I have been thinking about a carbon filter with an inline fan like they use to grow cannabis.
Great videos man! Where do you order your mazuri feed from? Thanks!

How long did it take you to get where your at?
We have been doing this for 13 years next month. Took about 2 years or so before we started breeding rats.

Awesome! I will have to try the apple cider vinegar. Thanks Teddy!

Thanks for all of the feedback! I would say what our breeding tubs run as far as ratio but I want to make it challenging for these guesses lol 😛
What size of the female rats do you start breeding them?
We use to do 200+g but we have been doing 175+g with no issues lately.
I'm going to guess 1800?
Maybe... watch my video in 2 weeks and find out!
