I used to refer to these as school buses. Almost as big and the diesel ones used the same engines as my district's International-chassis school buses so they sound the same. The 7.3 and 6.0 are iconic sounds. The 6.0 really wasn't bad if you preemptively address the known failure points. The back suspension needs to be upgraded for regular heavy towing because the springs are from the F-250 and don't account for the extra weight of the body. Other than that, the only thing that can kill these is rust. Doug DeMuro has an article about finding multiple Excursions with close to a million miles. These still go for crazy money because there's nothing else like them. The Suburban 2500 is the closest competitor but it never had a diesel in this century and it's smaller. If you need to carry a bunch of people and tow something big there's nothing else comparable. Maybe a conversion van but they're hard to find in 4x4. There are companies that take old Excursion bodies and put them on newer Super Duty frames because they were the same from the doors forward until recently. Ford actually called the back doors Dutch doors, like the split doors on houses. A traditional tailgate would have been too massive.
My mom has a 6.8 liter V10 gasoline it’s a 2000 limited. Love the car! My dad used to use it to tow our boat and trailer. The seats are comfortable and the car is huge. It’s got 120,000 miles on it so it’s got a lot of life left. Lots of childhood memories in this car we still own it to this day.
A kid at my high-school drives an Excursion and then I see a few more of them that pick up their kids from school. They are beasts and make my F150 look small😂
FREAKING LOVE MINE SO MUCH. We superduty swaped the front end custom roof rack and all sorts. FREAKING LOVE IT. I have a 6.8 V10 and Im only about an hour and half away from Caleb. Next time your in the area come on down. Also for more details check out our channel.
Great Review of the Excursion! My parents actually own a 2003 Excursion Limited with the V10 and with only 107K Miles and I love driving it. Definitely one of the greatest trucks I’ve driven.
The dash hook is probably to keep a purse/bag up vertically like they have in some restaurants under the table. LOVE THIS SUV! Would love one if gas were free! 😂
@@CollinMac96 Avoid 04 and newer, those have the 5.4 3v engine. The 03 and older Expeditions have the older 5.4 2v engine, which is a great engine. The only real issues with the 5.4 2v is it'll either shoot sparkplugs through the head, or if it has the revised head, spark plugs will get stuck in the head.
Like your video, I own a 2001, V10 6.8 Ford Excursion with 120,478 miles. It’s been the big baby of the family. There is nothing to replace it in todays market. Mine is a beautiful black Limited edition 4X4 which has been lifted buy a 4 inch lift. The entire suspension has been totally replaced with all new steering system, brakes, exhaust, 20 inch tires and wheels. All power and it all works! Very reliable truck. And I hold the pink slip.. Too bad Ford don’t get off their stupidity and stop losing money on EV’s that can’t get past 200 miles before a recharge. Great Truck!
This is basically a HUMMER made by Ford we have them here in Saudi Arabia and they are almost everywhere The Gas V8 and The V10 is the most popular The Excursion is just pure USA
Its my daily/family fun bus! 6” lift on 35’s, 6.0 bulletproof, KC 10 fin 03 turbo wheel, with some sinister diesel goodies. 😈 Sounds like a jet plane ✈️ pulls like a freight train 🚂
My friend has two of these. He got another one since his original one has some kind of engine problem. He LOVES this truck lol... and yes riding in his sounds & feels like I'm riding in a school bus with the diesel engine lol
A friend of mine had this year excursion it’s the diesel. Even though he babied it and dealer serviced it, the motor seized up at 250,000 kms because American diesel is crap, since the 6.0 was designed and engineered in Germany and to run on European diesel. He got ride of it for a Porsche Cayenne diesel. He is still running it and it has surpassed 250,000 kms. Another friend of mine took his G2 drivers examine in his fathers 2000 ford excursion 7.4 turbo diesel. He told me the look on the examiners face was priceless. On a side note, it was more fuel efficient to leave the diesel running than to turn it off and on if you were only doing a five minute stop at a store.
It's amazing how popular these became many years after Ford discontinued them when sales started to drop because of the poor gas mileage. The prices these sell for on the used car market is crazy. No one makes a full size HD SUV that can seat up to 9 and tow over 10k lbs. They came with a 4.30 rear so they were definitely built to tow.
That hook is to hang a shopping bag from from that gas station you just stopped at to act as a trash can for all the snacks you bought. Dodge Rams from 03 until at least 05 had them.
Powerstroke is perfect but since they don't make Excursion anymore, try to find the XLT because they have less advanced electronics components, the Limited and Ed Bauer has too much electronics which breaks down.
I agree, one of the best SUVs produced. To bad FORD got weak and stopped production. I guess a couple of greenies sent a letter to Ford and they got worried they’d lose sales. I got one, scares the hell out of those who drive the stupid “SMART CAR” when I pull up next to them. Besides I could fit that car in my glove box. Anyway my truck is a 2001 big V10 trailer pulling fool. Doesn’t even breath hard pulling a 6-7 % grade with the 7800 pound trailer behind. Sometimes I have to check my mirrors to make sure I got the trailer hooked on. Best Truck I’ve owned!! The way Ford has gone with their ideas of cool vehicles, this truck will never be reproduced again. Too bad for us.
I personally think Ford should bring back the Excursion and include the 6.7 diesel, 5.0 gas, 6.8 gas, and 7.3 gas engines used in the current 2023 super duty lineup.
Come film mine! It's an 05 limited 4x4 6.8 v10. It's a beast. We have 5 children so 7 of us total. Plenty of room and can tow 12k pounds. Mine has a bench 2nd row so seats 8 total. Also has the factory rear entertainment DVD and TV

Just like GM. The plastics were cheap and not screwed together all that well but the mechanicals are generally solid and will last for hundreds of thousands of miles.

The turbo diesels are fairly good on fuel especially the 6l

What about the Mini dash cup holders?
The advantage of a minivan is that it is car-based, not truck-based, so slightly better gas mileage
Some "minivans" were body on frame though. The Chevy Astro and GMC Safari, the Ford Aerostar, and the first generation Mazda MPV.
Buy hybrider mini van
