All these claimed issues seem to be mostly normal maintenance issues. My 02 V10 4x4 has 360k miles and only recurring issue was 4 alternators. Best vehicle I've ever owned!
If you have a V10, get the SPD Ypipe. Ditch the converter, no CEL since no after cat O2. Get a 5 star tune. Improved acceleration and shift points. Rear sway bar is a must!
Bought mine for 3 reasons. It’s a bank vault on wheels. It can tow almost anything you want. And our sons are 6’4” and 6’5” tall and have plenty of second row leg room.
Ford did also sell entertainment packages that were ceiling mounted foldable tv screens, I have so many childhood memories of watching stuff on those screens.
I’m looking at one right now. Just found out that we are expecting twins to add to our four boys. The Expedition just isn’t the best option for 4 car seats at once.

I would really prefer to not have to take two vehicles any time we go camping or go visit family on the east cost. 😂 Seriously, I’m pigeon holed into an Excursion. Found a fairly nice looking, one owner from Texas, 2005 not too far away. Just waiting on the sale of our first business so we can trade in our truck and pay the difference cash.
I love huge SUVs back when they were actually capable vehicles. I opted for an 05 Suburban Z71 4x4 and love it. Owned it for a year and it almost has 370k miles. Will completely rebuild it. Those 7.3 Escursion prices are insane. If i had extra money, i would source a 2500 Suburban 4x4 and duramax swap it for far less than what buying a 7.3 Escursion would cost.
Took me 20 years to figure out that you can disconnect the hinge stop to fully swing both rear doors out of the way so the doors are not in the way while loading 4x8 sheets of plywood into the back of the interior cargo space when seats are folded down.
Love Excursions these are definitely neat vehicles especially when the third seat out and 2nd row seat folded down to make it an enclosed pickup truck regular cab 8 foot bed awesome
@@Miguelsgarage Yes 43k picked in December of 2019 with 24501 miles road trip vehicle. I had the code V and C springs done ordered from Junior at ATS in Pennsylvania. Bilstein shocks, hellwig sway bar, red head gear box, and the spd y pipe done. She tows very good.
Clip board is impossible to write on but the clip is great to secure a bath mat to protect the center council from dog , kids or passenger damage to surface. Also gives puppy a non slip surface to stand on.
My grandfather has one of these, limited with the 7.3 diseal. Has just under 90k miles on it. Its been sitting in his garage for years. He drives it one or two times a year for long road trips and for taking it to get maintained. Im trying to convince him to sell it to me. But he's really objective to it because he knows how good of a vehicle it is. One day I'll convince him.
My favorite part is you can do a front end swap pretty easily to bring the look up to the 6.4 or steed body 6.7 style pretty easily!! Some even cut and weld the read panels in, but thats alot more work then just bolting a front end on... What im gonna do is get yhe the McNeil Racing conversion kit to bring the front and rear to look like the 2017+, even the 2020+ look! Its a little bit of work but it really updates the front end and rear end

Ive had 2 and they are definiitely unique vehucle My first was an 04 6.0 powerstroke 4wd xlt excursion with a zf6 manual transmission- tuned deleted studded it was a tank amd got 20 -22 mpg om the highway on 12 wides only had 147k miles but rusted way to far gone My newest and current one is an 04 6.0 excursion limited 4wd rust free with 347k miles Tuned deleted fass fuel system blue spring kit- not studded This one unfortunatelu has an automatic transmission😂 but it is still super super fun to drive Mpg about 16-18 so a little worse lol but it is a beautiful vehicle
Sorry the Excursion is the Largest Passenger Vehicle! Look at your Title! It is exempt from mud-flaps and restrictions on SUV’s and Trucks registered in the USA. Got one and love it!
@@Miguelsgarage On the versions that were equipped with the smokers package that is actually the ash tray, I own one with it (that fortunately was never smoked in!) Also those rear barn doors have a tab hidden inside that slides out and clips to the door frames to hold them open (look at the inside of the door between the hinge). The rear 3rd row seat is actually on wheels and is pretty easy to remove from the vehicle. I'm going to be looking at replacing the center front console with a jump seat as I personally have found it to be a big waste of space, the only real benefit is the rear facing power port for the second row (which I will try and keep). The Third row does have a power port on the drivers side, meaning that every row has at least one place to charge a phone.
Both are pretty capable! It really depends on what you want to do with it and personal taste. The Excursion will be a little bit more capable and it is more desirable.

The Suburban was probably the smoothest ride for passengers during long trips, etc. The Expedition felt the most comfortable to drive (especially for those who aren’t used to large vehicles) and actually seemed ‘roomier’ than the Suburban. (Though the Suburban had much more cargo space). The Excursion is by far the beefiest and most capable - but may not be as pleasant of ride if you have a lot of passengers
Everyone wants to know if ford will start making these again, but I can guarantee if they do, they will NEVER be as durable and long lasting as these. Everything today is way to high tech filled with electronics and cheap interior materials
The Triton engines in general have spark plug pop issues, the PCV tube can crack, and exhaust manifold bolts can crack as well. All of these you can look into and none are incredibly complicated to repair if you're handy
You forgot to mention the other 130 things that are problematic on the 6.0 before you spend 60k bulletproofing--but I'd still take that over the v10 lol.

I wish people would stop saying the Excresion is so big. It's a regular cab 3/4 ton Ford Super Duty with a permanent canopy. Get over it! Soccer Moms dropping off kids with a Super Duty escape criticism. But an Ex shows up and everyone speed dialed Greta, I have a 2000 that I bought new in 2001 languishing on a small town lot. It becomes a lawn ornament when fuel prices spike but goes on the road as needed. I look up at new F150s. It's not big at all by todays standards.
These never could compete with a 2500 suburban . The excursion is dangerous with big trailers. The suspension is way underated and unsafe and the brakes are substandard for any towing. The 6.0 chevy ran all over these v10s and 7.3 .the gm tranny is bulletproof the 4r100 was the worst trans ever made every 36 k it needs replaced. Had all three still have the chevy 400 k plus and still on the road. The two fords were in the shop monthly always needed a couple grand worth of repairs plus neither engine could get a heavy load moving on a long grade.

The back end rocks pretty severely on uneven surfaces. The rear sway bar tightens that up and lessens the feeling of tip over.
I got me one of those excursions. I aint never getting rid of it.

We have a 2000 excursion, and we've put an extra 22 gallon fuel tank so it can run on vegetable oil and so we could drive it cross country twice.

Shockingly the gas 2500 suburban with 8.1 and 4.10 gears has higher towing capacity than the 7.3L Ford.
