    Hey Island Girl. I was a police officer, I’m now retired. I had a situation once in a seaside town I worked when a gang of yobbos who were staying in the town were trying to smash a toy shop window. I called for help but help was about 20 mins away. I suddenly saw them walking towards me with a plank of wood. I won’t lie I was terrified as I was on my own. I was outside a pub where a lot of the local criminals hung out. They could see what was happening through the window. The next thing I know they all ran out of the pub (now I was really scared bear in mind im not armed). Then they all stood between me and the plank guys and shouted “she may be a F**king copper buts she’s our f**king copper, hurt her and you get worse from us that she can ever do to you”.
    That’s what happens when you treat people with respect.
    We were taught to de-escalate. I always tried to treat people how I would like to be treated myself.
    In the U.K. it’s a police service. In the US it’s a police force.
    I loved my job. It wasn’t easy but if I had my time over again I’d do it in a heartbeat.

    Hi IG, in the 80s I was put in "hospital" in Sheffield because I wasn't in a good place mentally, I would escape but go back after a few days, I used to go to the police in sheffield and they would take me back to the hospital, eventually I was allowed home (I live about 20 miles from Sheffield). I have since found out that I have PTSD and that was the reason I was in hospital, but they didn't know that was the problem, the police mostly are alright, but some abuse the position, I met a few of those around that time. Thankfully things are much better now, but difficulties never appear to be far away, though thankfully not to the degree of back then. I've never been addicted to anything because I've never been that desperate I guess, I'm not saying that it's a choice, it just never seemed like a path to take for me. Yes I do have a similar accent to those people in the video, but not quite so broad, this is a beauty of the UK, the accent changes very slightly every few miles, I'm pleased that you got to see something of where I live, but for a better idea take a look at North Yorkshire and in particular York the county capital, a stunningly beautiful place, you will love it. Take care :)

    I'm in the UK and some years ago I had a knock at my front door about 8.30 on a Sunday morning so I sleepily answered the door and found two police officers stood outside my flat 👀
    They asked (politely) if they could come in and search my flat for stolen goods and when I asked if they had a warrant they said no, but if I wanted then I could spend the rest of the day in the cells while they applied for one, so i let them in. They were very careful not to step on things or break anything, and they completely ignored my weed, then (after finding NO stolen goods) they apoligised whole-heartedly and left me to it. Probably not the right way to go about things but much less of a pain in the arse for everyone in the long run 👍

    Every city, or town has areas where people like those shown exist. I would hope that the police in those areas deal with the non-violent in a similar way. There are always going to be the violent offenders and they need to be dealt with in a firmer way. I'm sure if you look into American, (or French or German or other European cities) they have their problem areas too with people in bad situations, Sheffield and other UK places are not unique but Sheffield has improved as they said at the beginning and are doing something to help as they can and have made the program showing the situation and what and how they are trying to deal with it.

    The prostitute thing was more on West Street before the SuperTram, it went further out of the city closer to Meadowhall. There was a diss you could say to someone about their mum in school, " your mum goes down West Street" in the '90s and such.

    I do like the idea that the curb crawlers can get done as a traffic offence so would get points on their licence or their licence removed. That would hit them hard. Plus try explaining that one to a wife or girlfriend as to how you got points so your car insurance has goone up.

    I would like to point out those 2 policeman talking to those homeless people did not have a firearm. Those homeless possibly did have knives on them. No USA cop would dream of doing that.
    UK police will be hard and aggressive when its needed before a arrest. Most of the time it isn't needed. Yes we have bad police but not like the USA. I find local sheriffs are easier to deal with in the USA. I had contact with cops and sheriffs in Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky and Georgia.

    • @samstevens7888
      @samstevens7888 3 дня назад

      @theotherside8258 Yes but we do still have guns on our streets. And being stabbed in the arm or leg with a used needle isn't going to be stopped by a vest and yes this has happened. Also being clubbed over the head isn't unheard of for our police. Again a stab vest wouldn't stop that. A US cop would not of gone into that situation with only 2 officers nor would they go into that building without weapons being drawn.

    Prostitution isn't actually illegal in the UK, not in england anyway, they even pay taxes, however pimping is illegal, as is solicitation, curb crawling, brothels, advertising services, and causing or inciting prostitution, it's the laws around it that usually get them fined, most commonly soliciting (trying to get clients off the streets and public places) and under the antisocial behaviour acts

    • @keithparker5125

    Sheffield is a city in the North. Every town and city in the UK has a drug and crime problem. We do have more agencies that help deal with drugs, homelessness and prostitution, some are government run, most are charitable agencies. With our welfare system there is a safety net most of these people would be getting government benefit money, but addicts need more money than that to feed their habits.

    You notice the prostitutes would get punished with a fine, how do you think they're going to make that money, and the predators get off basically scot free with no consequences. Personally I think it should be the other way around!

    • @keithparker5125
      @keithparker5125 6 дней назад

      I don't think you were paying attention - the 'predators' were facing motoring offences that could involve fines and/or points on licence (which could end up costing more).

      @keithparker5125 we're you paying attention, they said they have means to have people disqualified from driving. You defending kerb crawlers preying on desperate addicts for cheap sex, have you been done for it i wonder because points and fines weren't mentioned.

    You see how the Homeless people are living in Sheffield, it’s like that up and down the U.K.
    There are small boats coming from France (which is about 22 miles from the English coast), which are full of Illegal migrants from Bosnia, Afghanistan, Romania and some African countries, make their way to France and these Illegal migrants have paid people smugglers thousands of pounds to get them on small boats to illegally enter the U.K., and when they do they are not jailed or sent back to France, are Government think is a good idea to put these illegal migrants up in Hotels and Bed and Breakfast accommodation, at the British Taxpayers expense, and as you can probably guess that we the British people are not happy about it.
    The Government refuses to help their own people.
    There are a lot of illegal migrants in the U.K. and the authorities have lot track of them.
