I've got to level a point of disagreement with Frum in regards to "greedflation." It's not as laughable a concept as he suggests, it's a real thing. Obviously CEO's and corporations are always going to be greedy, it's not like their level of greed has changed and that's what is causing them to jack up prices. Rather, because we've systematically dismantled corporate regulation and antitrust and everything else that promotes healthy market competition in order to allow massive corporate conglomerations to control everything, when shocks in the economy occur these corporations have a lot more power to just raise the prices rather than being forced by active competition to find other efficiencies. That's what greedflation is, not a sudden increase in greed, but rather the general increase in the power we have given to greedy people.

Idk about gar larger, but I think your right that women's issues are social supports. Taking care of elder parents often is a woman's role, raising children and running a home are often women's roles. Social services like SS for seniors and universal health child care and school lunches are women's issues.

This is why traditionally deep red Alabama just experienced a huge flip of state seat in a special election 62.4% Dem vs 37.6% GOP. When Dem Marilyn Lands ran for this seat in 2022, she lost by 7 points. This time, she won by a whopping 25 points! That was most definitely a voter statement about what Alabamans, and especially Women, think about the Republicans’ anti-IVF and anti-abortion legislation. Hopefully this is a taste of what Republicans can look forward to in November.

I don't think any other modern country really has an electoral college. It's so dumb, and when I was a kid, every time the republican adults in my life tried to explain it to me, it never made sense, and they all thought that I just didn't get it... good grief...

As someone who gave thousands of speeches and who grew up in local politics this was amazing. Trump was like the hula hoop. He was new and caught the attention of America. I lost my 33 year old son less than 3 years ago, also inherited his sweet doggie. She has kept me going and is a blessing to those of us left behind. One thing I’ve learned after this devastating loss of a brilliant being is that we have to keep telling their stories, we have to keep saying their names. Having lost a child (20yo son) I understand the appeal of things that are "not on the table". Heartbreaking really that you/we cannot "fix" the situation. This interview made a lot of sense to me up until Frum started talking about Gaza. It's as if the 32,000 Palestinians who have died since October don't exist for him, and if anything, he thinks it should be much worse - whatever it takes to "end the war" as quickly as possible, never mind the carnage ("that's war"), without even any recognition that such an approach will put peacemaking forever out of reach. It's not just morally bankrupt; it's stupid. As you put it, Tim, "What's the endgame?" At least what Frum said in answer to that question made sense and had a moral compass, even if I don't agree the Israelis had no choice (and continue to have no choice) in how they respond.

RE: "Biden didn't get rid of enough of the student debt!" This one is so irritating, and applies to much of politics. The president can only do so much without at least grudging acceptance by the House and Senate. I've read that part of what got us into this mess in the first place is that high schools stopped teaching civics classes. I loved the "gasoline prices are not determined by the moral quality of petroleum companies". I'm morbidly convinced that if gas and food prices are low, the incumbant gets re-elected, and if not, they get fired. I mean, what control does the President have over those things? "He should be drilling more!" I don't think a lot of these people realize you can't just go out and drill a well in a week or two and start pumping oil. Maybe oil and food production should be part of our once-again mandatory civics classes.
Let's hope that this election more people have come to realize what a psychopath Trump is.

This is why traditionally deep red Alabama just experienced a huge flip of state seat in a special election 62.4% Dem vs 37.6% GOP. When Dem Marilyn Lands ran for this seat in 2022, she lost by 7 points. This time, she won by a whopping 25 points! That was most definitely a voter statement about what Alabamans, and especially Women, think about the Republicans’ anti-IVF and anti-abortion legislation. One thing I’ve learned after this devastating loss of a brilliant being is that we have to keep telling their stories, we have to keep saying their names. This interview made a lot of sense to me up until Frum started talking about Gaza. It's as if the 32,000 Palestinians who have died since October don't exist for him, and if anything, he thinks it should be much worse - whatever it takes to "end the war" as quickly as possible, never mind the carnage ("that's war"), without even any recognition that such an approach will put peacemaking forever out of reach. It's not just morally bankrupt; it's stupid. As you put it, Tim, "What's the endgame?" At least what Frum said in answer to that question made sense and had a moral compass, even if I don't agree the Israelis had no choice (and continue to have no choice) in how they respond.

When the situation is gloomy, it’s not responsible to be a Pollyanna. If subscribers want sunshine and rainbows instead of truth, they can find those elsewhere. The truth is that it’s a critically important time for our nation, and it’s fraught with uncertainty.

This one is so irritating, and applies to much of politics. The president can only do so much without at least grudging acceptance by the House and Senate. I've read that part of what got us into this mess in the first place is that high schools stopped teaching civics classes.
I loved the "gasoline prices are not determined by the moral quality of petroleum companies". I'm morbidly convinced that if gas and food prices are low, the incumbant gets re-elected, and if not, they get fired. I mean, what control does the President have over those things?
"He should be drilling more!"
I don't think a lot of these people realize you can't just go out and drill a well in a week or two and start pumping oil. Maybe oil and food production should be part of our once-again mandatory civics classes.
