I love how people give these mechanistic explanations for why seed oils are bad for you. But when we look at the research, they're fine. You can make an argument for anything being bad using mechanisms. For example, exercise causes oxidative stress in multiple parts of the body, massively increases stress hormone levels, carries a large injury risk and can disrupt sleep if done too late in the day. But guess what, it's one of the healthiest things you can do

a lot of it comes from the way the fast food industry uses seed oils...
Some seed oils are heavily regulated in Europe, but not in the US, so there is evidence to say that they are healthy, but calling them all unhealthy would not be correct either...
If everyone did a little research on the particular oil you'll find yourself not using most of them and using some of them sparingly.

One of the only long term double blind RTC studies ever done that actually compared animal fats vs processed seed oils found that you didn’t start seeing a difference in health outcomes until about 10 years out from the initiation of seed oils to the diet. It apparently takes a LONG time for these changes to take effect which makes sense. My hypothesis is that our cells will incorporate the fatty acid ratios we consume into their cell and organelle walls over time. If you eat mostly saturated fats, you get cell membranes that are robust and resistant to oxidative stress. If you eat mostly seed oils, your cells will have more of their structure composed of material that easily oxidizes and gets destroyed. A difference like this would essentially make you age faster if you eat more seed oils as simply producing and using ATP generates oxidative stress in the cells and your membranes would be less able to handle the “heat stress” of their own engines running.

I think the issue with seed oils is just seeing how they are extracted and its high usage rate in fast food.
Watched "Nutrition made simple" talking about whether or not seed oils are bad, the resounding answer is no from the various case studies done on it and the multiple ways we consume it (via the oil being heated, cooked repeated like in fast food places, normal version), the research says even with all the omega 6's non of the inflammatory markers go up, and instead in some studies they go down. In most of these cases the pool of people ate a tablespoon of said oil a day, this is about 100g of seed oils (given the avg density of the seed oil is .9).
So if anything really to take away from seed oils, its fine for the average human to consume in a (confirmed) range below 100gs a week. And at the end of the day cook with what you prefer, if you dont like em you can use avacado or coconut or whatever non seed oil you want, just know if you eat that big mac from mcy d's youll be fine and not be taking 5 years off your life.
if you didnt like seed oils to start you prob still wont be after seeing people talk about them, very few people really change their mind on these foods when their already biased (against or for), and there's nothing wrong with that since its your opinion and your body. The issue only arrises when youre just out right doing harm (like eating fast food everyday or sugary snacks).

The question of CVD is also very much a question of overnutrition. When I am rocking my 10-12 % bodyfat, eating healthy, getting my micronutrients covered, doing my workouts, it doesn't really matter if I get a bit more saturated fats than I would have otherwise. When the body is at equilibrium, the energy goes to the right place.
We are discussing what foods are most unhealthy, when a male is over 15% bodyfat. We should discuss on how to get males below 15%.

@@tuckstar ok, the current evidence shows that seed oils in and of themselves are not inherently bad for you. The issue comes from the fact that seed oils are typically used to make highly processed foods as well as deep fried foods. These foods are highly palatable, promote overeating and potentially elevated levels of body fat, which comes with the risk of developing obesity-related diseases. In addition, oils are calorie dense themselves, so they could potentially put you in a calorie surplus. If you use seed oils in moderation to cook food, etc., there is no current evidence that doing so will negatively affect your health. Alternatively, if you use animal sources of fat (saturated fats) in processed and fried foods, then the same aforementioned issues could arise if you overeat these. However, animal fats do come with a unique risk for developing heart disease by raising LDL cholesterol. But again, eaten in moderation alongside an overall healthy diet, while maintaining a healthy body weight, the effect can probably be minimized.

Wait so seed oils are good because “the dose makes the poison” essentially, spiking your blood sugar is fine because some guy did it for 30 days and lost weight? And then to say it comes down to calories? Yeah people can do a lot of ridiculous things for 30 days, but nobody on the planet can just eat high sugar foods that spike your blood pressure, lose weight, and still intake anywhere near the nutrients your body need.
So seed oils aren’t bad it’s the highly processed foods that people eat them with? Are we now saying seed oils aren’t in the category of highly processed? And if essentially every “highly processed” food contains seed oils and nobody is just drinking seed oil by itself or adding it for flavor, what is the point of it? At what point in a meal would we reasonably add a significant amount of seed oil that would be “good” for you?

If you ever cook you'll find that many many people use canola, olive, "vegetable", oils to cook. These are the types of things that would be good for you no doubt. Second: linoleic acid is an essential fatty acid your body needs anyway. There is no clear evidence that a high intake of linoleic acid in a typical Western diet directly leads to inflammatory diseases (source: Harvard Medical School). In fact, a balanced ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids can have anti-inflammatory properties and promote heart health. Even the American Heart Association recommends eating margarine over butter in most cases. I'm not saying you should eat buckets of margarine.
