    Those Black CT Sounds amplifiers surprised me on the amp dyno I saw recently. Definitely a good value and it put out like 1000 watts over rated @1 ohm. I've always liked their subs too. The Meso and Strato subs have solid performance. If you can afford a pair of Strato or Meso 15's and a good amplifier from CT, or a JP23v2, or a Taramps Smart 5k, you can have a great system. Just make sure you have a good enclosure and solid power, and CT Sounds won't disappoint you.

It is ear splitting loud and clean at the same time. The sound quality is amazing. Also running jbl gto series 6.9 speakers front and back in the doors with a Fosgate t-600 x 4 amp. Beefy subs are better for horn loaded enclosures (the driver pushes on the narrow end of a gradually expanding tunnel of air), and very small enclosures. But as a direct radiator, the air is thin and doesn't need huge magnets and heavy cones. You will need a larger enclosure for the less beefy sub, but it won't drink as much amplifier power for the same SPL.

    Great video. Every video I've seen like this and personal experience suggest efficiency doesn't mean much. I would guess the higher impedance rise (lower power) on the stratos may have to do with them wanting more air space plus having a larger displacement means it's making the box effectively smaller with higher tuning especially because it seems like there's more difference at higher frequency

  • @WariorMageThief
    @WariorMageThief Год назад +3

    All about enclosure design and vehicle acoustics. For example- I had two fifteens (~$150 double stacked 3 inch vc) on 2k in my Jeep and it sounded fantastic on the low notes very defined in a box 6.4 tuned to 32hz. Now I am rocking a single 15 on 2500 ($600 triple stacked 4 inch vc, it's massive) in a 4.2 box tuned to 32 in my 2003 mustang. So a huge difference in air volume and acoustics. In the mustang, a 32 hz bass not does not have the length to fully unload and it gets bottled up and sounds muddy. Plus the fact that the box has so much airspace, it peaks super low and exasperates the problem. When I roll down the windows, the issue mostly goes away and I gain noticeable spl.
    Just my experience
    Edit: I should say that the difference in air volume is per sub not the total volume. So the box that I had for my 2 15s after sub displacement was probably around 6 cubes which is actually slightly smaller than the recommended size for their combined cone size. 2 15s > 1 18 and a good ported enclosure for an 18 is ~5.75-6 cubes

Changing the frequency and then running though the different volume responses.. I think the tests might be a little more beneficial if you changed the frequency with every volume test. I know it's a little more work but I personally feel like it would be easier to tell the difference between the effects of different frequencies. Opposed to the affects of different volumes. It might seem like a little bit of a hassle but it would emphasize the affect more

    I'm surprised by these results. There are a lot of variables at play. It's easy to assume it's about cone surface area and cone excursion and typically that's the volume recipe. However, when it comes to the mechanics of it, a stronger motor, will more accurately reproduce sound. Anytime an applied force(magnetic in this case) has to accelerate a mass(the cone), a stronger motor structure will be more capable of accelerating the cone more in sync with the music's intent. Basically, a signal is sent to the coil to move the cone. But there's always a tiny lag before the magnetic field can defeat the mass of the cone. I think after watching this, the more powerful motor lessens that lag, when compared to a less powerful motor. Essentially, the more powerful motor is more efficient with the given input power. However, I suspect that would change if the frequency was set to the cheaper subs resonant frequency.
    However, I could very well be wrong. The results so fat has surprised me.

  • @hopskustomaudio
    @hopskustomaudio Год назад

    The reason for the difference in power is bc of impedance rise. Subs with bigger motors and more motor force typically have more rise. So those stratos actually could have used a bigger amp than what they sent you if they wasn't able to get to their power limit before the amp clips.

    Very interesting and good test but tbh, I mean if bigger, beefier subs didn't get louder, why would people upgrade to them and why would they make them? You should post up the sensitivity (aka know as efficiency) of each sub as well because that's how "loud" they should be at 1w (apparently). Bigger/more beefy subs are USUALLY more efficient and do better on the same sized amp(but NOT always!) Iv seen a few out there that are "weaker" subs that have better fs and are more efficient as well. Still a cool video 👌 always enjoy your stuff

    • @Chuck_Sanders

      Absolutely. The Tropo is more efficient. Also, the Tropo is geared more towards sound quality. But both are good drivers.

    • @evilinside5984
      @evilinside5984 Год назад

      @@Chuck_Sanders On paper, the specs showed that the tropo was 2.5 db louder, but those are @ 1watt=totally useless for comparing subwoofers max spl. If you would have seen parkers results, in this video, you would know that the beefier subwoofer performed better on less power. And the gap would become greater with even more power.

    • @Chuck_Sanders
      @Chuck_Sanders Год назад +1

      @@evilinside5984 this isn't a "test" at all. The Tropo is more efficient, regardless. Higher efficiency drivers perform better in larger enclosures, where as less efficient drivers are suited for smaller enclosures. Using software like DATS and Woofer Tester to pull actual TSP'S woukd help him greatly. I have said in numerous videos, he shoukd purchase DATS or an equivalent program. And modeling the driver in enclosure software to see what the driver needs for enclosure volume, and tuning helps tremendously. Thus providing where the driver will reach full xmax, and or exceeding the xmax at 70-80% of the max power it sees. Youll also be able to adjust tuning, to get the port velocity(speed) correct, for the enclosure. Throwing two different drivers, in the same enclosure, isn't a test. Also, this is comparing apples to oranges. More efficient drivers, need less power to meet there performance goals. The fact that the Tropo held its own, against a "beefier" driver, shows that. Put them in the proper air volume, and tune them accordingly, to show a true test. There is more to a driver, than just being "beefier" and he gave a lot of incorrect info right off the bat, and the Fs is a useless parameter basically, and the spider isn't the only limiting factor, when it comes to xmax at all. Good video though, for watching subs play. 👍

      @evilinside5984 Год назад

      @@Chuck_Sanders Even though this test is not optimal, it is very useful for the average person, who may not have access to a local custom shop, or be able to afford a custom enclosure. Knowing they can buy an affordable prefab enclosure, that mates well with a subwoofer, that they can get shipped to their door is awesome. Although it would be great to have 3 custom enclosures tested, the smallest, the exact middle, and the largest that the company recommends. Then test each model in all 3 enclosures. Awesome video, though. Thank you Parker!

    There so many different things that make a " loud " driver. If you were to go simply from a amount of db the the amount of power they can flow would be the only important parameter . A lot of what we call " loud " is more about the pressure a driver can produce. Here a beefy motor is important. To move the diaphragm of the driver fast enough and far enough while resisting physics requires a good amount of electo-mechanical force. But we also care about sound quality and reproduction. This tends to favor a more efficient driver. A stiff yet light cone, good spiders, a very reactive coil. Imagine what it takes to nail all of this in one driver . Imagine the materials required to achieve excellent sound quality and responsiveness, yet be strong enough to allow a giant , super efficient motor structure man handle the diaphragm parts without destroying them but keep it affordable...seems like a big job to me.

    • @Argedis

      Yes but it's interesting to see the beefier sub got louder with less power in many of the results.
      Higher power subs generally have very stiff spiders. I always thought you would benefit only if you played them at RMS power.

    Too many variables when it comes to sound. Number one what kind of sound are you looking for? Do you like your base tight? Are you trying to get SPL? how much room do you have or are willing to give up for your box? How much money can you afford or are willing to spend on your sound system?
    I have always based my systems on bang for the buck. Always wanted a very good sounding system, never wanted to spend A fortune. Had other things that were more important in life. Like my family, my home, my cars, my children's education. Going on vacation and more.

My amp is a new Skar RP1500 and the box has two separate chambers with the volume of 2.1 cf. I'm pretty sure it's tuned to 36 h.

I am wanting to see what your best options are for me to get as loud as possible but not have to add batteries and other power upgrades. Probably wanting one 12 or one 15. Maybe two if it’s going to be a whole lot better. I was looking at the Skar EVL 12. But I don’t know what the best options are. I was thinking about 2000 watt rms amplifier from skar and one EVL 12/15 .. what’s your opinion??

    In order for this to be correct the subs would have to have same tsp and one would have to handle more. Of course my beefy would destroy the trapo. But if the subs are damn near the same just 1 handles more then this would be a myth buster but its two completely different types. Different boxs different positions everything effects the outcome.
