Hail, oh woman, who was so afflicted,

While you were sold to the foreigners!
    Chorus:

    Oh-ro, welcome home
    Now that summer's coming!
Grace O'Malley is coming over the sea,
    Armed warriors as her guard,
Only Gaels are they, not French nor Spanish...
and they will rout the foreigners!

May it please the King of Prodigy that we might see,

our Sweet Lady Meav indeed has a commanding stage presence. At this point, Meav was (and still is) the nascent vocal director of the group. I think she was showing the gals how to present the song on tour. Meav only sang this song for the DVD filming in question here, leaving one of the others to take the lead during the tour itself. Not sure who took the lead after that. Guessing it was maybe Eabha who is the other totally fluent Irish/Gaelic speaker among them. But i totally agree with you Sanne. :) xx

I didn’t like it cos the original artists of the song where folk and it was a folk song. But now hearing other artists singing. It doesn’t sound like folk to me. It’s still good.

I could honestly do without the first 30 seconds, they harmonize well with her throughout the rest of the song but that intro and later bridge just feel like trying to “modernize” something that doesn’t need that done to it, as it’s an important traditional song, and the intro is a just a little too nasally sounding (all these women sing beautifully on their own or when harmonizing, but something about this bridge is unsettling).
Maev’s voice is perfect throughout this whole song, no complaints there.

Very nice version, but , still the best versions and more close to the original, in terms of vibe, atmosphere and generaly, the meaning are:
    1) The DUBLINERS &
    2) IARLA O' LIONARD !!!!
    full stop

@@Tenshi962 Oh, I thought for a sec that it was Orlá; this front lady looks just like her. Also the fiddler has to be Mairead. I know that blonde hair woman anywhere. I am glad Mairead came back, but sadly Orlá didn't. I also wish for both Lisa Kelley and Lisa Lambe to come back with Chloé.
