A very nicely thought out solution for a small lathe. Well done! Your whole situation has forced you go get good at coming up with unique solutions but this one is simply "solid" :D
Well done and very well designed. Some time ago, using the part off that You disliked, some 15 mm steel was parted off. It looked like cutting well. Once finished it was discovered that the insert had broken off and the insert holder had done the cutting!
Gday, when I had the small lathe I had the same parting tool as you showed in the opening clip, I put an adjustable leg under the end that picked up on the threaded hole that holds the insert in, the “leg” sat on the cross slide and supported the tip of the cutter, this made a world of difference, I hope I explained that half right, cheers
Good work-arounds to get it all fitted and working. Like you I use to have big issues with parting. Plenty of loud bangs and broken parting blades, until I saw a video from BlondieHacks where she gives a bunch of really good tips on parting. I don't think I have broken a parting blade since. Further to that I saw a video from Winkys workshop where he builds a flexible parting tool holder. It sounds counterintuitive but these work really well. They are designed to flex away from the work when there is a big load. The minimises the blade from breaking. I built one myself and it works great. I have a video for it on my channel if you are interested to see how it works. I can now part with the cross slide feed engaged.
Thanks, pretty sure I watched all of those videos, my issue is the amount of stick out the flexible versions have, as I don't have mountains of cross-slide travel. Thanks for watching. 👍
Absolutely not, my lathe is homemade and so is my Mill and everything else I use. There's no fun in getting someone else to do things for you. Thanks for watching 👍

Back when I still worked for a living I was refered to as Mr Fixit or The Ideas Man. Thanks for watching 👍
thank you so much, cheers from the USA, Paul
You're most welcome. Thanks for watching 👍
Great work again. Would have been so much easier to buy a tool holder but where's the fun in that 😂
Correct, no fun in buying something, especially if it doesn't exist. 😁 Thanks for watching. 👍

Astounding. 😯 Thanks for watching 👍
@@MyMiniHomeWorkshop Indeed but I don't consider it as a future method....
Well you definitely don't have to worry about it not being solid enough lol. Looks good. 👍👍
Solid it definitely is. Thanks for watching 👍
Great video as usual. Do you use carbide endmills?
I certainly do, I don't use all that many HSS tools at all. Thanks for watching. 👍

I actually did that as well and to be honest I don't remember why I stpped using it 🤔 Thanks for watching 👍

good work!

Ah yes, parting. Something I struggle with sinds... always.
I would have to think that there are not many of us home machinists who have not struggled with it at some stage. Thanks for watching 👍
Didn't cross your mind to just buy the carbide cut off tool that fits your lathe?
Absolutely not, my lathe is homemade and so is my Mill and everything else I use. There's no fun in getting someone else to do things for you. Thanks for watching 👍
@@MyMiniHomeWorkshop you had no problem buying the one that didn't fit....🙄
@@EitriBrokkr I only bought the tool, not the holder, just which one are you suggesting didn't fit ??
@@MyMiniHomeWorkshop you could have bought the proper tool that would have fit, without all the shenanigans
@@EitriBrokkr You obviously don't know what you are talking about, that tool doesn't exist. Bye Bye, I'm not wasting any more time on you.
