My Mini Home Workshop
Таиланд
Добавлен 8 ноя 2021
My Mini Home Workshop is all about creating a mini workshop at home when you have no room for a workshop, and the ability to make anything that you put your mind to with a little perseverance and some basic tools.
One thing you won't see me doing is drilling hundreds of holes and tapping threads in them, and I have done plenty, and broken a couple of taps while I was at it, but personally I find that to be boring viewing and find myself saying, Get On With It.
I hope you enjoy my videos, if you do, please click that LIKE button and Subscribe to see what I come up with next.

Nice. It starts to look like something :)
It's coming together, there are lots of parts to make yet. Thanks for watching. 👍
Gday, really starting to take shape now mate, top job, cheers
Getting there Matty despite the stupid stuff up. Thanks for watching. 👍
I would like to see you make an IC engine perhaps a Hit N Miss engine or even a small Aero engine.
I have a Stirling Engine in mind I wouldn't mind having a crack at when I finish this one. Thanks for watching. 👍
@@MyMiniHomeWorkshop sterling engines are ok but they don’t have the same effect the a ic engine has especially when it runs. Either engine works I will still watch the progress
@@taranson3057 A lot simpler to make though.
@@MyMiniHomeWorkshop indeed it is but an IC engine isn’t any more difficult than the tool n cutter grinder you made 😁
@@taranson3057 Perhaps 🤔
I'm really enjoying this series. Thanks for sharing the videos.
Glad you're enjoying it. Thanks for watching. 👍

Its beginning to take shape nicely done ✔️
Getting there. Thanks for watching. 👍
Tropical storms are never fun.😮
Especially when you get them a few times a week during summer. There is major flooding up north at the moment thanks to a Typhoon, glad we don't live up there. Thanks for watching. 👍
I hate to say it, but a tell-tale sign of a dying machining channel are steam engine and kit builds. They are boring and pointless. Nothing is as interesting to watch as an original idea coming to fruition as something useful, such as a machine, tool, or shop project.
I can't agree with you there, I have done literally nothing for nearly 3 years but build machines and tools to go with them, it's about time I used them for something else. Besides that, almost every other engine build I've seen has been done using a kit, whereas I am starting from scratch and making literally every part of it myself, surely that sets it apart from all the others. It's also a test of your skills to make a functioning engine, especially with no plans to work from I think. Thanks for watching. 👍
What do you want? He's building it from scratch with no plans so it ain't no kit and I'm enjoying it. And that is my only my opinion.
@@MrChezy86 I never implied his steam engine isn't original. I made two points you interpreted as being the same. My first point is that steam engine builds have no real practical use. It doesn't really matter whether it's original or not. I'll also add that there are tons of steam engine build videos on RUclips. My second point is that kit builds, such as Hemingway Kits, are just as boring to watch for a different reason. While they are practical and useful, it primarily involves finishing and assembly operations, with little creativity, if any, in the process.
@bobweiram6321 Normally when I don't like a video or a set of videos I just don't watch it. Why did you feel it necessary to say and I quote "dying channel"? That's just rude and again is only your opinion after the guy puts so much effort into his channel. And there you go that's my opinion!!!
@@MrChezy86 I never said his channel was dying, but merely stating a pattern I've observed with other channels. As the saying goes, "compliments are good for my ego, but honesty is great for my business." Whereas you would have just flipped the channel or unsubscribed, I offered constructive criticism because he's clearly one of the most creative and talented RUclipsrs I've encountered. Ironically, the fact you would even admit to a cut and run on his content is far worse than any rudeness you ascribe to my comment. After putting so much time, effort, and passion into their work, the last thing any craftsman wants to hear is dead silence. Please work on your reading comprehension skills before volunteering as his ventriloquist. The gentleman is tough as nails and has more than enough whiskers to take constructive criticism as well as speak for himself!
The steam chest is taking shape. And that was indeed a very nice casting you made there.
Thanks Rusti, I was pretty happy with it. Thanks for watching. 👍
Gday, making good progress mate, top job, cheers
Getting there Matty. Thanks for watching. 👍
Thanks for sharing the video. I'm really interested in this project
Stay tuned. Thanks for watching. 👍
How did you know how much to turn the chuck to index it
If you go back through my videos you will find a 2 part series on the spindle brake I made using a hydraulic bicycle disk brake, part of that is a paper-printed disc with 360° marked on it, I have a couple of different discs, and another only has 100 divisions marked on it. Thanks for watching. 👍

Presso is a true craftsman. That man can make anything is his shed.
Absolutely and an inspiration to us all. Thanks for watching. 👍
if the sprue runs dry, the sand will cave. likely you stopped pouring because you couldnt see what was happening. resulting in a cave in.
I never actually stopped pouring in that one. Thanks for watching. 👍
@@MyMiniHomeWorkshop if you didn’t stop then you poured too slowly. That white foam burns out really quick. I use denser foam. It makes it easier to keep up when pouring. Vibrating the sand will help prevent that blowout you had at the top of your second piece also. Cheers
@@stevesrt8 I'm convinced it was a lack of sand over the section that collapsed because it didn't happen on the 2nd attempt. I use the most dense foam I can get here, that builders foam I see others using is not available here. I use a really crappy lightweight stuff for the sprew because the higher density stuff won't burn fast enough and leads to the material not making it to the bottom before it starts to cool enough to start solidifying.
Just go with the flow when making YT. I've been doing it for over a decade and when it's time for a break, you will know it. Viewers will take whatever you can give them. You're the one doing all the work ;) If I run out of subjects, a short break and re-fresh usually brings something to light. Cheers Rob
I think you're right. Thanks for watching. 👍
Gday, thanks for the shout out, I sent a second lot of stickers about a week or so ago, hopefully they arrive but if they don’t I’ll try again just let me know, it’s very demanding doing a video a week, not easy hence why I’ve pulled up for a while, I’m keen to see this engine come to life, great job so far mate, cheers
Thanks all round Matty, you deserve a shoutout, you've earned it. I'm actually a fair way into this build and it hasn't been without a few stuff ups, but it's getting there, I'm getting to the parts that if I don't get them right, it may not run, I've got my fingers crossed that it will. Thanks for watching. 👍
You could always do what Inheritance Machining does and upload every other week, it would take the stress off you. 👍👍
Could do, but I shall just go with the flow for the time being. Thanks for Watching. 👍
Yeah, RUclips work-life balance can be hard to manage. I try to do a few "undocumented" projects every now and then just for myself. Thanks for the shout out. Regards, Preso.
It can definitely take over your life if you let it. You are most welcome for the shoutout, you deserve it. Thanks for Watching. 👍
Good start on the engine. That lost foam casting is interesting. It looks like a good easy way to get the job done. I may look at that next time I need to cast something. I don't know if you have seen Mark Presling do sand casting, but he makes it looks so easy.
Mark was the inspiration for this video. I was originally going to go down the sand casting path, but then I discovered Lost Foam and changed my mind, it is so much easier than making a dedicated mold that would most likely never get used again. Thanks for watching. 👍
Making an engine from nothing. That's the way to go. As for posting one video a week, it is indeed very demanding, so I totally understand. BTW, thanks for the shout out.
I'm hoping that it all turns out ok and you are most welcome re the shoutout. Thanks for watching. 👍
Although I enjoy all your videos this series has really got my attention. When I was younger I collected old engines and still have them. As I've gotten older I got into building model engines. I'm 75 now with bad heart trouble and unable to work in the shop. I'll be following along on this build for sure. Thanks for sharing your videos with us.
I'm actually a Motor Mechanic by trade, so engines have always fascinated me. Thanks for watching. 👍

Thank you ever so much, it's very appreciated, every little bit helps. 👍
The series was very helpful in understanding the various parts interplay with each other. Especially your setup for the worm and the manner in which you machined it into place. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching. 👍
That is a great idea for height adjustment.
It works well. Thanks for watching. 👍
The adjustable height tailstock would be good for other tools that you may have with different center heights. In that case you just need the one tailstock which will work with everything. Looks like you have been in the wars with the bonnet slamming on your wrist, the crazy guy behind you and the hours in the garage. Look after yourself mate.
It didn't half hurt when the bonnet hit me, I have a massive bruise on my other arm now from some blood tests during the week, the nurse had a hard time finding a vein. Thanks for watching. 👍
That fly cutter is giving you some cracking finishes. Another great job 👏
I'm loving it. Thanks for watching. 👍
So, adding a plate it was. I knew it :)
Who's a clever boy, no hiding anything from you. Thanks for watching. 👍
Thanks for sharing another great video. I definitely want to build one of these someday if my health will allow it. My heart doesn't let me do much of anything anymore other than sit and watch RUclips videos and wish. The Drs have not been any help at all. All they think about is feeding me more pills. I'm 76 years old and just want to be in my shop. Hope to see the steam engine project in the future but enjoy your retirement first. Life is too short to work so many hours every day.
I agree, if you don't have your health then you have nothing. Thanks for watching. 👍
Gday Paul, the tailstock is coming along nicely, doing a video each week catches up after awhile, have a spell mate, cheers
You're not kidding Matty, but my problem is that over here I don't have much else to do and I'm not the sort of person who can just sit around and do nothing. Thanks for watching. 👍
This project has been very cool so far, nicely done.
Thank you kind sir. Thanks for watching. 👍
At the 24 minute mark, wouldn't cutting on one side more than the other indicate something flexing?
Possibly, it only seems to happen with these chamfering tools though, it has me beat. Thanks for watching. 👍

I'm glad you enjoyed it, part 1 of the Steam Engine will be next week's video. Thanks for watching. 👍
I cannt wait for the build along steam engine series. Are you going to use blueprints to build from?
The Model Steam Engine - My Way build starts next week, and as per usual I don't have any plans and it will be coming out of my head, based on information I have garnered from others who have built one from a kit. It should be an interesting build as I will be using my own castings. Thanks for watching. 👍
