It will usually backfire with an aftermarket exhaust as well as an anti-lag system (gas pours into the exhaust or intake manifold, allowing the turbo to continue spinning, to prevent turbo lag) in which excess gas is burned and while exiting the exhaust which sets the flames.
When you activate the rev limiter, it lets fuel cover the whole exhaust system (that's why the exhaust is black from the inside) then it sparks the whole thing, so the massive explosion starts in the cylinders, goes past the open valves into the exhaust sytem, which ALSO explodes before the turbo (which for a second, will spool the turbo) stressing the turbo like an anti-lag system would do (but without the anti-lag aspect). Then the spark traces down the pipe until it finds air to explode.
subarus are naturally made with a huge exhaust and there sound is so deep and monstrous!!! my most favorite Subaru is the 2005 Subaru impress wrx sti wagon spec c! those things will blow your ears off!!!

you did, and this is true on a regular fuel cut rev limiter, the bee R is a spark cut with functions outside of a mere launch controller. It allows for some settings whenever the clutch is depressed to "rev limit" between shifts, while a normal anti lag would function with your foot off the throttle, the bee r does not, and that is the only real difference, the bee r requires you to keep your foot planted between shifts to work...but it is still an anti lag, it is in the product description lol
a traditional anti lag dedicated system does do exactly as you stated with off throttle turbo spooling. The Bee R accomplishes the same function with it's flat foot shift settings, anti lag is not defined by the position of the throttle pedal, it is defined by it's function of keeping the car in boost between shifts.. it has a different method it accomplishes the same function, keeping the turbo spooled in between shifts..the very definition of an anti lag. it is in the product description...
... This is NOT launch control. This is ANTI-Lag. Totally different. LC is just a self programmed pre-rev limiter limit. You hold the pedal to the floor and it allows boost to build before launch. Anti-Lag is used during tip-out (letting OFF the gas) it retards ign n adds fuel (causing flames to escape and ignite outside of the engine cylinders and places pressure on ALL components after the engine which CAN Damage EVERYTHING)

That's why there's exhaust afterfire. But you are right that it's not so good on catalyst and exhaust elements and may cause egt's to go up, not to mention some longevity issues on turbochargers, just as an antilag system would do. Look up Bee-r rev limiters and read how they work, it's pretty clever :)

Well you have to take some lessons here :) An anti-lag system is a system that keeps the turbo spinning between gear changes and it keeps the turbo spinning when you are OFF the throttle and when switching gears. It works by keeping the exhaust gases flowing in the engine hence keeping the turbo spinning. If you noticed, an anti-lag system doesn't have a BOV. This scooby does have a VTA BOV.
I would love to say you're right, but unfortunately you are not. These flames are caused by the Bee*R rev limiter. When I had it fitted, the car had a full decat and BOV with no remap, so was over fueling a lot. The Bee*R cuts ignition but not fuel, so the fuel goes straight through the exhaust. So hot exhaust combined with the lifting off after hitting the limiter a few times and the even more fuel dumped by the BOV, it results it some pretty huge flames. I was surprised by it myself!
If you still have this car i'd recommend a fire extinguisher just in case. My friend had a modified civic type R which did the exact same thing, little did he know there was a small blowout in the exhaust under the driver's foot well. Eventually his car caught fire through the foot well and burnt to a crisp. Nobody had a fire extinguisher at the time, it was heart breaking to watch it burn :(
Its called antilag where the flames come out, its installed In most rally cars to keep the turbo going all the time. And its called a blow off valbe that sound its when all the turbo has spooled up air but you release the throttle so it shoots out then rather thsn going back into the turbo
A launch control system can be set before take off. It's a system that helps you hold the car at high revs then engage the transmission. It will keep the turbo spooled up and when you release the clutch the throttle pedal takes over. Well hope i pointed out to the main points. :)

Dude, 2 step, Ignition is happening in the exhaust manifold instead of the ignition chamber to build boost with no load. I'd Imagine all that heat can't be good for the turbos for extended periods of time. I don't suppose your tune in going to help the turbo out with that extra heat and stress, but at least it looks cool lol.
I am curious what manifold and exhaust pipe material you chose to use for this build. With combustion occuring in the exhaust track due to your anti lag setup, I doubt the typical aftermarket stainless steel or even the factory cast Iron header can take this stress... Let me know, or if anyone has any input.
launch control keeps the boost level high so you can accelerate faster. the launch control does not produce flames, it only uses more fuel which then get in the exhaust and when you hit the gas again, the gas in the exhaust will ignite due to heat.
This is one of those exhaust flame things thats not even anti lag....you can tell because when he lets of the gas the flames come out and theyre white/orange. Anti lag happens on the rev limiter and has red/orange big flames.

The flames probably just burn the sound absorbing material from the muffler and melt the bumper. Nothing serious tho.

Full 3" Blitz Nur Spec R. It's a Bee*R rev limiter/launch control module, not anti lag, nor flame kit :)
