Thanks Kev this was a great honest review 😊 sounds a good water proof jacket only thing is it’s orange and not yellow 😂 interesting hearing you talk about mountain warehouse. I’ve bought quite a lot from them over the years and I remember getting hiking boots from them that lasted a long time and many a miles so they definitely do some good things there. Didn’t notice the thing you said about some not being branded by them. Interesting watch 😊

Thanks Yas. I've been impressed with their Extreme and Ultra range, but my budget walking shoes I bought from them I wore holes in the soles within 150 miles!

Great video Kev, u have a relaxed style of presentation which is brilliant. Flyfishing jackets tend to be a lot more waterproof than the hiking jackets ive tried. A good one starts about 150 euro. Noisy buggers though. A got a GREY , which is a cheaper brand for about 50 quid. If its a wader jacket it only goes to ur waist which is too short though.

Thanks Des. I suppose fishing gear needs to stand up to many long hours outside. I'm assuming you'd get pretty hot hiking in them though as fishing you'd be more stood around? I haven't been fishing in many years so haven't kept up with any of the gear available.

@@TheWalkingKev some of the high quality ones are definitely worth trying on in a top fishing store , they are roomier around the armpits for casting . But yes, they are not great at wicking away sweat. Some are great quality though!

I recently bought a craghoppers waterproof jacket, only used in light rain so far and it's worked well. Cost 60 quid. Happy with it but would like a bargain so thanks for the info. Met someone the other day in mountain equipment clothing which he'd gotten from vinted at really cheap prices, been looking on there loads since and there's all sorts of good stuff on there for good prices. One man's trash is another man's treasure and all that 😊

@@TheWalkingKev yea I don't mind budget stuff to be honest, especially underlayers. Waterproofing is pretty important though so it's always good to get fairly good quality there. And don't talk to me about footwear right now, my recent boot purchase was not a bargain 🙈 they were needed though because I'd like to get out in snow conditions more plus they should last me for years to come

Do you know what, you're absolutely right about brand and gear snobbery. The gear snobs look down their noses at Regatta and Trespass for instance. There was a middle-class woman who I used to subscribe to who sneered at a base layer because it was "only Helly Hansen... it's not what I usually wear". She's now a "proud Ambassador" for Fjällräven - in other words she gets paid for flogging their stuff on her videos.
More snobbery: I've seen Decathlon described as the Primark of the outdoor world which I reckon is pretty unfair as they have some decent stuff in there (got an excellent Quechua 20 litre day bag from there last June: really nice design and tastful colour, well-padded shoulder straps, 4 pockets and 2 side pockets, strong, durable and just 32£. Yes it's not Osprey or anything but I would buy another without hesitation.
Couple of other items to mention if I may: I bought a waterproof rain jacket from Marks and Spencer last September for 89£ and it's almost as good as the high end ones from Rab etc and it's superbly waterproof with not a drop of even heavy rain getting through.
As for waterproof trousers, I mused a bit about the ones used by roadworkers etc and had a look in B&Q. They had/have some navy waterproof over trousers, own brand, for just £13. Now they're not really breathable, as is to be expected for just £13, but they are well made - not thin rubbish - have good taped seams and do keep the rain off. The trick with them, I discovered, is that because of that lack of breathability it's best to put them on just before, or as soon as, it starts to rain rather than letting your under trousers get too wet; put them on as soon as it starts to rain and you've got some very decent waterproof over trousers for just £13. ( Think they're 10,000 hh, which is not high end but for £13 is hard to beat. A spraying of Nikwax etc might get that score even higher possibly.
Anyway you're right about gear snobbery and as for those people who must be seen in Tesco in their The North Face gear...

Good call with Regatta. I've been making a video about their gear for two years, just haven't got around to finishing it! I've just got a load more Regatta stuff, fleeces, softshell and a lovely hybrid gilet with Alpaca wool for £20!
I've realised I enjoy looking at gear and trying new stuff, but last year it was really just about getting outside and using it. I've got some Rab stuff and love it, but you can get outside just as happily in Regatta.

    Great review Kev.
Crazy how cheap your boots were 😳
That jacket isn’t too bad but don’t like the idea of the pockets filling with water and the hood fit.
Great for the price but I’d rather pay a bit more - not that I’m a snob 😁

      @TheWalkingKev  8 месяцев назад +1

Ha ha. Well, I've had Goretex jackets filling the pockets with water over the same walk as well. I think it's waterproof zips, they're just not that good when rain drives into them.
My Rab jacket wetter out within about 10 minutes. Worst waterproof I've ever had.

Mountain Warehouse generously sent me a 20% *extra* off voucher which when coupled with the sale price that isn't a sale price but the actual price on the ticket made the black fleece lined trousers I bought a price I was prepared to pay. What I don't think anyone would ever have paid is the pretend RRP on the label, it's really irritating to see these ficticious prices isn't it.
According to the washing instructions they're water resistant or repellent, forget which but the bottom of them soaked up water like a sponge. Going to treat with Nikwax wash & TX waterproofer this week to see if that makes a difference. Very comfortable, tidy looking not hugely wide like walking trousers tend to be & long enough which is a miracle!
I'd be delighted to see these on Ebay but nothing there this evening.
Thank you for the interesting video.

Just a caution with this brand - I purchased a similar model of jacket, a Verge Extreme, which has similar specs to this one. When I went to leave a review, I found that reviews were all 5 star and reviews are only allowed by invitation from the company.
I sent an inquiry to provide a review, and got no reply.
My verge jacket, rated to 20,000 mm head pressure, wetted out after less than an hour in normal moderate rainfall and subsequently wetted out in under 5 minutes in a heavy rainfall.
