    The Amazing Spider-Man 2 / Peter Parker runs the gauntlet as the mysterious company Oscorp sends up a slew of supervillains against him, impacting on his life. / We've always known that Spider-Man's most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead. It's great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there's no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

    Jamie Fox’s Electro just has a certain feel to it that seemed so powerful. Not just the effects and the display of his electric abilities, but his part in playing the character. His change from a timid, kind, invisible man to a openly vengeful being was certainly a sight to behold.

      Yeah, I always liked his arc. He was already not in a good mental state before the eels. He was so downtrodden, that he became an obsessive fan of Spider-Man, just because he was nice to him that one time, meaning that nobody EVER had a nice thing to say to him and everyone just pushed him around, made fun or him or just simply ignored him. Then this tragic accident happens to him. And then the person he looked up to the most "betrays" him in his eyes, not only setting him up for a police sniper, but also then hogging the spotlight that for ONCE in his life belonged to him and only him. That pushed him over the edge.
      A lot of people who criticised this movie just didn't get this origin story of a mentally unstable guy being pushed as far as he could be pushed before snapping, and simply wrote it off as a stereotypical nerdy and clumsy guy all of a sudden turning evil for no apparent reason.
      Harry turning evil made no sense. But Max was very well done.

    This is such a well written scene with understandable motivations from LITERALLY every party: the cops are now used to supervillains and overreact to Max, not listening to what he's saying. Max's plight is incredibly relatable, nowadays we all sometimes feel overlooked and meaningless in a sea of publicized success and Max is the paragon of that helpless emotion. Spider-Man is genuinely just trying to save people, and in doing so convinces the Police Captain to order his men to hold their fire, and doesn't immediately discount Max despite dealing with other supervillains on the regular, and ALMOST manages to talk him down.
    It turns this scene from a potential comedy of errors into something tragic, where everyone does their best and it just isn't enough... and we really get the sense the outcome... while horrible, was unavoidable. Spider-Man could've forgotten his name, or that Max existed. The police captain could've argued with Spider-Man, all of these things would add conflict and therefore drama, but what we get is so much more impactful and creates some real narrative weight by allowing the tension to slowly build while you desperately hope for a positive outcome you have to KNOW you won't get.

      Harry is written very well in this movie too. The fanboys might not like this film (and I'm a LONG time Spider-Man fan, even before the movies), but it can be strongly argued that there were some gems in this film. For me, the acting and how Harry is written are the two biggest ones.

      "Where everyone does their best and it just isn't enough"
      That's a good take. I'd also like to point out the communication break down between police and electro. They keep seeing a threat because electro is too confused to listen to their commands.
      And the cops probably have adrenaline dialed up to 11 against a possible supervillain.

    I love that Spider-Man’s villains are most of the time just people like him that got their powers and don’t know how to control them. While also that’s what makes Spider-Man so awesome is that he understand how dangerous powers can be and he learns to control them and be responsible for them. It literally always comes back to with Great power comes great responsibility and his villains never learn that lesson.

    The part at 1:17 when Max's theme goes back to the isolated flute with the negative voices, it's right when Max had realize what was happening and was trying to tell everyone he meant no harm. With that part continuing to when he and Peter were talking, it was as if there was hope that maybe Max could be saved as he was seeing through the pain, sadness, and anger. When he was shot at and Peter saved the people, the spotlight was now on him. If you listen to the voices, it changes from the voices attacking himself, to attacking Peter. "He lied to me, he shot at me. He hates on me, he lied to me" making Max believe that Peter was against him. This is when Max is no longer there as he has been fully blinded by rage, anger, sadness, and revenge. Hans really did amazing work with Electro's theme. Absolute art.

    Even to this day, I love how this scene portrays everything we love about Spiderman.
    His first priority is to help Max, and protect the civilians. Yes its unrealistic that so many people would just stand and gawk there, but in this universe the citizens are probably so enamored and confident in Spidermans abilities to handle the situation. Plus you'd be suprised how many people actually stop to spectate real accidents, this is similar.
    Spiderman first concern is everyone's safety. Even when things get out of hand he uses all of his jokes, speed, and experience to protect the New Yorkers and even Max , until the fight escalates.

      @AxeKick80 2 года назад +23

      I agree. Andrew is the best Spidey and Peter Parker. I feel like there’s this mass delusion that Tobey is a better Peter, but Peter in the original comics was never an awkward nerd who was tongue-tied around people and just took abuse from bullies. He was a genius in an absent-minded professor kind of way who always had a snappy comeback for anyone. And he could talk to girls just fine.
      I think people just see Tobey acting awkwardly nerdy and like a social outcast and assume that’s how every nerd is supposed to be and that it therefore must be an accurate portrayal.
      Andrew is much closer in spirit to the original Stan Lee/Steve Ditko Peter/Spidey.
