- Recorded as part of a scientific research project conducted by the Department of Fisheries in collaboration with the University of Western Australia and CSIRO, this project aimed to describe and compare fish assemblages of the upper slope (100-600 m) along the west and north coasts of Western Australia. The footage was collected from two research surveys in March and November 2010, onboard the Research Vessel Naturaliste. A total 150 stereo-Baited Remote Underwater Videos were deployed, recording a total of 1358 fish from 78 different species. The number of species and total numbers of individual fish decreased with depth. Fish assemblages at 200 m were very different from fish assemblages at 400 and 500 m which were more alike. As depth increased the fish assemblage was made up of a variety of different sharks and rays.
How anyone can thumb down this clip is beyond me. What excellent and interesting footage. Now that is a job i wouldn't call "work"
I didn't but maybe because they didn't want to pay for it.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this presentation. Well worth the time. thank you for posting it - no matter how long ago it was :-).
Excellent Video !
Beautiful footage. I'm amazed how little bait you need to attract these species at those depths
I love your video. I cannot wait for your next video coming soon!
Now that's a cool video . Past 300 meters it's a freak show !
So cool. Keep coming back to these vids

Excellent, hubbie has fished there and got some nice snapper. Fantastic to see what is actually in the depths of the ocean, those 6 gill sharks are the really prehistoric ones I think, quite rare as well.
Thank you!
Heh heh that Western Leg Skate crashed straight into the floor!
Love it!
So interesting to see what is down at those depths straight out from Pert/Rotto.
Also interested in what the Rv Naturaliste gets up to and where they go insearch of more research.
I keep track of the Rv Naturaliste with the iphone app Marine Traffic . Right at this moment they are down off Margerate River.
This is awesome, capturing the wonders of the ocean!
You prolly dont give a damn but does anybody know a method to get back into an instagram account??
I somehow forgot my login password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me!
@Noe Eduardo instablaster =)
That's pretty cool. We are gonna try that here in the northern gulf of mexico.
Amazing footage, hope you post more of it. Any chance you could drop some of those cameras on the Derwent wreck? Always wanted to see what it looks like. Cheers
2:06 the snapper has a chew on the probe!
Is the Australian TUSK at 5.30 similar to a LING?
shark eats everything sea
I love the champagne crab.
Waddles over....MINE!!

Any publications out of this footage yet?

Was that a Sunfish (Mola Mola) at around the 5:20 mark in the top right corner?
Sure was!
I’m pretty sure
They identify it as a short sunfish/Mola ramsayi (now considered synonymous with Mola alexandrini). The ocean sunfish/Mola mola has a more scalloped rudder on back end of the body.
why the blue lights? Are fish less prone to be shy of them? also it seemed like some of the footage was IR was that right?
Fantastic swimming po with the fish
Do u guys now that pretty much all the lakes in Stirling Western Australia have invasive European carp in them and I have seen many big ones about 60 - 70 cm and I think there might be some carp in the swan river
Go to Herdsman lake in Perth! We have caught huge carp and goldfish there!
8:33 Go home ray, you're drunk haha
Glen Robinson 😂
so deep that he's narced
That was sick. How deep does it get?
About 1.5km deep on average
Is there a way I can view live cam feeds?
You can View live feed from a security camera mounted in a water proof housing to a laptop in your boat on the surface via PoE (Power over Ethernet) I do this for a hobby
Security camera quality can go up to 4K video
Was that a Sunfish swimming past at 5:20?
Yes
Yea Bradley I believe it was. I never had the pleasure of seeing one myself. As I spent many yrs Fishing & Diving out of Daulphin Island Al. But one of my Dive Buds did see one. I seen alot. & I Dove at Night for Flounder.
