Thank you
Reinforced double sided flooring tap works the best for installing nosing's and transitions, it sticks instantly and its almost impossible to remove.
Rather than cutting the nose off my treads could I put the riser board at an angle eg this way ---/ obviously level with the top of the tread ???
Absolutely
Doesn’t it reap off during contraction n expansion when fit tightly?
Your tutorial is the best I've seen so far. It makes me feel confident that I can tackle my stairs. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
Wonderful, thank you for sharing that and good luck on your project
My bullnose broke off I'd like to get the old glue off of the bullnose so there will be a smooth surface to reglue it. How do you recommend me getting that glue off I've just been taking a razor blade to it carefully
That is probably gonna be your best bet
U are the man my man! U do great work!
Thank you very much
Great video, short, no time wasted. Thx
Really glad to help
nice job explaining the whole process, appreciate it
Thank you I’m glad it helped
Thank you for explaining everything you’re doing. I can’t tell you how many videos I watched and the person just assumes we all do this for a living
You’re welcome
What if the left side of the stairs is open??
Then you have to do a return bullnose on it, so it will be finished. What ever stair nose you apply to the front you will also have to wrap it around that side that is open.
I did not see you glue down the treads. Do we need to remove the underlay backing?
Trying to take the underlayment off of a scrap piece and if it’s really hard to get off and give you a fit, then don’t worry about taking it off. If it is hard for you to pull off, then it will hold up being on the steps.
@@FloorsbySouthernboys still want to know if we glue in place
Replacing my carpet with vinyl flooring and stairs is the one I'm worried about. After watching about 3 how-to videos, this is the one where I understand each step with all the details I needed. Thank you sir, good job!
Awesome
It's easy as eating pie
Not the ones I am working on! Padding on tread and riser seem to be glued down with a thousand stables.
How do you do large landings?
@@rickeykeeton4770
What did you do about the padding and staples?
After watching numerous videos this one showed me exactly what I was looking for.
Glad to hear
FBSB - this tutorial was absolutely amazing!
Every detail was included and explained proficiently in layman's language that I could understand.
Keep up the great work and Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!
Great to hear!

Such an underrated channel!!!!
THANK YOU SIR
Thanks god bless
Thanks for the video. Much appreciated! ✊🏽
You’re welcome
Great video! About to tackle 13 steps for the first time!
I hope they turned out great
Do I have to scrap off the foam underlay before I glue?
If you are able to peel it off easily, then yes definitely take it off because that let you know that it will not hold over time. It is very hard to get off and you have to scrape and scrape and scrape. Then you will be fine leaving it.
Very informative, thank you sir.
😀👍
I have watched so many tutorials that left me still feeling uneasy about tackling this project. You explained this so well I actually feel like I can do this now having watched this, thank you.
Man that is really great to hear, thank you for that comment
Thank you so much for this
😀👍 You’re welcome glad you enjoyed it

Should be using a stair tread gauge

@@FloorsbySouthernboys I didn't watch whole video, it came on after a previous one. It works on risers too ya know.
@@lamegame420 yup
Good job!!!
Thank you I really hope it helps you
Thank you for the thorough video.
You welcome
Are this treads not supposed to have some play?
They look like floating boards.
No play on steps, I personally usually completely glue the thread down. Most people just use lines of construction adhesive
Ive done many rooms before but im about to do almost 800 sq feet with some stairs involved. Thanks for the video!
You’re welcome, you got this, my friend
Do your stairs all have to be sand and even correct someone i hired really messed my stairs up and I’m left trying to fix it your video was very helpful
They definitely need to be flat
Great tutorial thank you
Thanks for the professional tips and tutorial videos🙏🙏
You’re welcome buddy
Where can I get the nose for stairs? And the correct name please to order it.
Thanks
Extremely helpful video thanks a bunch.
👍
Helluva video. Thanks a lot. This was super thorough.
Thank you! Fantastic demo!
Glad you liked it!
Great work old school best work totally pro work.
😀👍Thank you
I compiled a set of 10 steps that helped me after watching this video to help me better understand what to do.
1. Start with some mdf sheets, preprint them before cutting anything, and wait until their nice and dry. A cabinet finish paint would be fine. A semigloss would be good because it'll take some hits from feet and not be easily damaged like matts
2. Using a special tool call a Treadmaster, or just a normal tape measure, measure then cut the mdf into place. The video details how to use this special tool, but isn't necessary for onetime jobs or where tight finishes aren't a huge deal.
3. Before installing the riser, dry fit it to see if it fits and that the riser comes flush with the tread, or even a little lower. Also, put the ugly edge facing up, because the stair nosing will cover it.
4. Then, place some construction adhesive in a www pattern on the piece and mash it back into place, and shoot some pins along the top part where the nosing will cover and some more on the rest of the riser to hold it in place while the glue sets up.
5. Measure the depth of the tread using a tape measure, and the width of the tread using the tread master or tape measure.
6. Transfer the measurements to your planks that are clicked together and cut off BOTH ends of the plank if you're using one plank to span the stair. In the video, he covers 3 different method for patterns. Use a knife or saw to cut the planks down.
7. After dry fitting the tread, apply a full layer of construction adhesive to cover the entire tread. And press it into place. Continue these steps till all stars are covered.
8. For the nosing, measure and cut each stair to length, then, while dry fitting the nosing, hold it back about ¼" and mark a line along the nosing. This is where you'll sand the plank to give it a rough surface for glue.
9. Before applying glue to the nosing, sand down the inside of the nosing aswell with 120 or harsher grit.
10. After sanding both inside the nosing, and where the nosing will go, apply a generous amount of construction adhesive to the inside of the nosing, staying away from the edge. And roll the nosing on away from the stair, so that the glue-squeeze-out doesn't pass the nosing. With some blue tape, tape the nosing in place till the glue sets (usually 24 hours).
Yay!
Awesome
Thank you for the video
You’re welcome
Thank you sir! Great video
Thank you
Great tutorial video! Especially for beginners thanks!🙏🏾
Great video. Thanks for it.
"Have fun with these steps" 😂 These stairs will be the bane of my existence for the next 2 weeks sir
Thanks for publishing this - just what I needed!
Okay? Okay?
Thank you SO much for this video!!! My husband and I used your method on our stairs today. We appreciate you!!!
Oh that’s awesome, I hope your steps turned out beautiful
Thank you so much for all, and thanks for the bit info 👍
I love your videos and truly think they are very helpful. Watching you do the three different steps have given me the confidence that I can do it. I do have one question. I did not see you leave an expansion gap. Is it necessary?
Not on stairs because they are glued down
I'm just being honest man! I'm just so excited you said INK PIN. I was starting to believe I was the only one that still called it that. LOL Thank You! Oh yes! Great Video! I love it!
I’d buy you a lunch for this tutorial if we met bro thank you
your welcome
You are awesome 👏
😀👍thank you
Nice video. Really step by step. The stair nose part is excellent.
Glad you liked it!
Do you have any videos on how to install LVP on concrete floors
Pro tip for measuring the width:
Stretch ya tape 10 inches from one side and mark it, then send it from the other side to your mark for sure measurements. Don't forget to check for square and measure the front and back of each tread
Nice, thank you for sharing
I really appreciate you taking the time to do this demonstration. Im doing my stairs to my basement this weekend. Wish it was only 3 stairs lol. But you've helped me alot with the video. Thanks again.
I am a few weeks behind this so I hope your steps turned out lovely
I feel you I have 14 steps dreading do anything to them. I did remove the carpet felt good to get rid of it.
@@mimiaquariusharris6244 Lol i have 14 stairs to mine too 😅
Great video. Thanks for great tips . Appreciate your hard work ...
Landing?
Sorry I will have to build one so I can do a video on it
Any recommendations for open riser stairs?
My secret weapon is a heat gun...I live in Canada so it's cold....throw a heat gun on high for 25 30 seconds back and forth with a fresh blade, will cut like butter. Door jambs , heavy risers, full length width cuts anything you wish!
👍 спасибо за инструкцию
👍
Seen a bunch of videos. You came out on top. Great job
Thank you
Wow, this tutorial was awesome 👏🏻. Great video
Thanks so much!
Is there a reason you wouldn't shoot pins in the flooring to hold it in place while the glue sets up?
It looks really good but personally I perform cap_ a treat stair casing because overall looks seamless .
Love this video ❤super helpful. Trying to decide how I want my stairs done ✅ this is great
This video is amazing. You make it look so easy. I will be starting this project because of you. Thank you.
Where did you buy the San Andreas Oak flooring. I love the colour.
From my local Flooring retailer
Thanks so much
Thanks for details, just wanted to know, I need to put riser as well.
Can you explain that when risers should be installed. Before the step or after the steps.
Thanks
Starting at the bottom you should install the riser, tread ,riser, tread and so forth
This is video is by far the best I have seen on installing vinyl planks on a stairway. I notice you that you kept the cork backing/underlayment when glueing them to the treads. Most new planks come with a synthetic underlayment layer attached. Is it still ok to use polyurethane adhesive with those? Thank you!
Awesome video, man. Very helpful and will be referenced many times when I do my own stairs. Cheers.
👍😀
What's a Hieth? Lol. Do you mean Height?
You could even try height
Thank you for this video one of the best of RUclips! Couple of questions: 1 - Do I need to purchase the Treadman Stair Scribe, as I would a speed square, flat edge, tape measure for measurement and scoring with a blade? It's $300 and I'm just a DIYer for my home. 2 - What kind of Liquid Nails can I substitute for the adhesive? I live near a big box store. Thanks again!
Correct you do not need to purchase the stairs scribe just for a one time use. As for a substitute, you could get some pressure sensitive adhesive from a box store as long as you are able to wet, set application
Do you have video making staircase or stairs? Thank you for wonderful videos.
Only for glue down, outside of this that is all so far
Your videos have been incredibly helpful, but I've run into a problem that I haven't seen you address. I have vinyl plank in my room and I have stairs leading down to our basement. The stairs are no problem except for the top one. All of the stair moldings call for gluing the molding down. That's not a problem for all of the other stairs, but doesn't doing that on the top stair lock in the vinyl plank (shared with the room) since it can no longer move because the molding will hold it in place? I've been very careful to leave gaps around the floor and don't want to mess something up now.
Any recommendations on how to transition from a top step which meets LVP that is running perpendicular with the stair treads? It would be great if I could have the nosing on the top step butt up and look flush next to the perpendicular planks on our second floor. Any ideas?
Another vote for this, too.
This is awesome! But Im trying to use a slightly more budget tool for the measuring part. Do you know of any other tool that would work similarly?
Here you are

Definitely a great informational video. Sanding the inside of the nose piece and plank should be a common sense thing, but I didn't even think of that. Great job, sir! I noticed you used a mitre saw to cut them. My top step leading into the kitchen goes around the door, and I'm trying to figure out what to use to cut it to fit around the door jamb... 🤔
Cut your door jam and tuck it under just barely
This is an extremely helpful video thank you. What’s confusing me about stairs is, isn’t an expansion gap critical for LVP? Why fit the vinyl tight to the stairs here? I prefer the look but am nervous.
You are absolutely correct, vinyl plank does require expansion. However, one piece that is securely fastened to the floor with construction adhesive is not going to move and require expansion.
I wish my floor guy watched this video before messing up my stairs
Hey great video man thank you for the useful info your videos are by far the most helpful! Quick question i am looking to install vinyl planks on my wooden steps but i am concerned about the noise in my tenants apartment below. Can I use an acoustical underlayment to deaden the sound? If so how would i install these? Not sure if they glue down or not.
If you get a vinyl plank with rubber on the bottom or cork you’ll be fine leaving it on and that should work for you
Thanks you so much for your detail careful demo which is excellent. However after watching several different demo on lvp stairs, I'm thinking and waiting for LVP manufacturers to make one piece of thread including nose so that there no joining pieces together. It's so much easier and time saving- just measure length and width for fitting for simple straight identical stairs.Gapping may show up over time as the stairs takes heavy beating with thread joining planks. Curving stairs may not be so easy to do.
I see
Question: When you glue the vinyl for the tread, do you remove the foam backing off first? Do you need to?
Okay? 😂
😂😂
Great video on vinyl plank on stairs. My home has floating steps and I want to have vinyl planks installed. Is this something not typically done? I have not seen any videos on how this should be done.
Here you go this is a friend of mine

Can ardex be used as the primary glue for the whole plank? Or just the nose?
Yes it can be
Great video Southern Boys. Enjoyed the details. I wonder why you didn't use that handy scribing tool to measure the mdf for the riser tho.
That’s awesome, honestly even thought about it when I was doing this video
Can you have overhand on the steps or do you have to build it out so they’re flush? Does that make sense? I don’t know how else to explain it. Thanks
I build them out
Like the idea, thanks for the share. Can I ask how would you fit a the bull nose right or left?
Excellent video Thank you, did you sale the router bit or do you know where can I buy it to make the nousing on the stair vinyl plank floor? Thank you!

My vinyl plank has attached pad can I install it on stairs directly ?
If my stairs treads are too rough, can I use the same MDF for an underlayment?
Great Video! How do I measure the stairs for flooring ?
You can do it by square footage if you want to Or you can just figure to planks per step if you only do the treads
