    To clarify the Architect scene a bit for you:
    1) Neo is not the first or only One; there have been five other people who were the "One" as well as five other cities of Zion (all of which were destroyed).
    2) The Matrix only works if people choose to accept it as reality; older versions of the Matrix were too dream-like and people refused to believe that it was real, so they kept waking up. Even in the later iterations, there are a certain number of people who just don't accept that it is real and those are the ones that escape and join Zion.
    3) The One is someone who is created by the Machines: each One carries a special code that will allow the machines to essentially reset the Matrix and restart the cycle of Ones and Zions.
    4) The other Ones chose to sacrifice their Zions in order to preserve humanity as a whole since the Matrix will collapse without the reset and the majority of humanity is still locked within the Matrix. Neo is the first One to not make this choice since he was unwilling to sacrifice Trinity and thus chose to save her rather than humanity. The Architect flatly states that Neo is the first One to actually fall in love, or at least the others hadn't been in love at the time of the choice.
    5) The Architect didn't actually know what Neo would do for certain, so all he could do was map out the possibilities (all the screens playing behind Neo) and plan according to what he might do.
    *Edit*
    6) The Architect is actually trying to throw Neo off at the beginning of the scene, hence the odd and complicated language. He's actually rather impressed by Neo realizing that fact and starts to answer more succinctly as the scene goes on.

      there is a theory that neo isnt the one. agent smith is in actuality the one.

    • @andyb1653
      @andyb1653 3 года назад +8

      @@judgeomega That's a bit of a misunderstanding IMO. People are using the terms "The One" and "The Anomaly" interchangeably, and to an extent they can be, but that's also caused come confusion. "The One" is the result if the "Integral Anomaly", the flaw in the Matrix's programming. Neo is "The One", but since The One is part of the plan, he isn't AN anomaly. Smith is AN anomaly of his own, separate from the Integral Anomaly. Smith wasn't part of the plan, he was a side-effect of the Oracle's experiment.

    • @cjmars822
      @cjmars822 3 года назад +3

      Another interesting point I don’t see discussed is the duality between Neo and Smith. Neo was born of the Matrix, he escaped into the real world. Smith was also born (programmed) into the Matrix and escaped into the real world. In that regard, this 6th version discussed by the Architect is actually a new anomaly, an additional result based on the remainder of the unbalanced equation. I believe that this additional anomaly is what pushed the machines to make the choices they did at the end of the third movie. On top of all that, based on my just proposed theory, the question of “who is the One” becomes less clear cut. Thoughts?

    • @lotuswraith
      @lotuswraith 3 года назад +4

      @@cjmars822 With your theory in mind, that would make their decision at the end of the third movie as a logical move: instead of solving the equation to account for everything, better to remove the uncontrollable elements and streamline the equation you already have. Since the ones who want out may also include programs that would otherwise cause mischief as well as dissolutioned humans, that would lead to a more stable Matrix and fewer resources that need to be spent hunting "anomalies".

    • @cjmars822
      @cjmars822 3 года назад +4

      @@lotuswraith 100% agree. Based on Smith’s comments in the first film, the implication is the machines are just as much prisoners of the Matrix as the humans are. Stooped to glorified livestock farmers just to survive. I feel like each movie could have been a hour longer each to explain all this. Then again, it’s more fun discussing it with others :)

    I love the Matrix movies and it always frustrated me that people would say they hated the sequels. I think the main problem is that the 2nd and 3rd films need to almost be treated as one movie and watched back to back. Otherwise, a lot of information is forgotten or lost. Rewatching them again in my 30s I know they are not perfect films in fact there are a few things they could have done to clarified (for example, I feel that they didn't show enough of Smith destroying the Matrix world, making him more of a threat to both the machines and mankind). I fully appreciate what the directors were going for tho :).

  • @DrThrax4

    "How can he do that?"
    Remember, the vast majority of the movie takes place in the Matrix. In the Matrix, Neo as "The One" can 'break all the rules'.
    Gravity, human limits of speed and strength, etc etc. It's all fake. There is no Spoon. If the World was a game, Neo has the cheat codes.
    The 'real' question is how the hell did Neo fry the sentinels. That was in the 'real world', where Neo is supposed to be 'only human'.

    Seraph is an Agent from one of the first iterations of the Matrix - the Paradise Matrix. It's theorized that that is why his code is gold colored instead of green colored (althought others say it's the difference between a hardware/firmware program and a pure software program). Seraphim are one of the choirs of Angels in Christian myth, hence his name, and why he wants to help humans and guards the Oracle. He went into exile after the failure of the Paradise Matrix and worked for the Merovingian for a time.
    The Twins, aka the Ghosts, are Agents from the Nightmare Matrix, one where all of humanity's fears were personified in various ways, with many programs taking on the appearance of monsters from human folklore. They too became exiles when that Matrix failed, and also took up with the Merovingian, who, along with Persephone, are sort of an unofficial machine Mafia within the Matrix, doing their own thing separate from the overall Machine goals.

    The whole Matrix universe is portrayed as a lot of parallels to computers and computer systems.. Agents are programs that can "possess" any file, aka connected humans in this case, in the mainframe. Neo and the freed humans are like hackers fighting the programs, trying to disconnect/extract the files (connected humans). Agents are so strong because they have access to most of the mainframe's potential. Neo is even stronger because he's the hacker who has just cracked the entire mainframe and has more access than even the agents. He can use loopholes and everything, hence performing impossible things like flying, stopping bullets, etc etc. Just like elite hackers. Smith when he's "freed", essentially becomes a rogue program, or more like a virus. And just like a computer virus, he starts attaching himself to everything in the system and multiplying, eventually taking over the whole system. So he's now not with the system and is more or less against it and becomes a threat to both the hackers and the mainframe.

    Neo catching Trinity after she got shot is kinda silly. At their interception rate she would've broken every bone in her body; that impact of her and Neo's combined velocities would've been harder and more energy than her simply hitting the ground.
    Then again, Neo is 'the One' and could've altered the physics.

    in a trilogy like this, the story has to have a "natural progression" in order for it to be believeable.
    with that said however, to many knock a franchise soley based off visuals. this totally underminds the greatness of a story if all you're looking for is a "wow moment".
    people loved The Matrix movies because of the story, not so much for its base line CGI. CGI was still (and still is) in it's infancy phase. 20yrs from now, all CGI filled movies will look "out-dated" even though it was "state-of-the-art" for its time.
    basically what i'm saying is this... i've watch hundreds of movies that people hated only to find out those movies did suck. i've also watched hundreds of movies that people hated only to find out those movies were in fact masterpieces.
    don't live off other peoples' experiences...experience them for yourself ...then you'll have your own opinion as to whether or not something is trash or treasure. enjoy your journey, you only get one true shot at it ...don't waste it due to other peoples' opinions

    One. The flying was the ability that anyone in the matrix saw him fly, they might wake up Neo made His Own Glitch in Matrix.
    Two. Most people forget in the first movie, Morpheus told Neo in the beginning there was a man inside the matrix that could make it do what ever he wanted to do.
    Three. Most people who watched didn't realize the guy on the table at the end was just another copy made by Mr. Smith.
    Four. Once they showed you Zion and people were living underground, not all cool clothes and style, I knew most people were not going to like this film, especially when the political aspects came into the storylines.
    Five. This was made to be an epic to challenge one's mind and go deeper than just a sweet fight flick.
    In the first movie when Neo Fought the Agents and came back to life, he saw the Agents in Code.
    That let me know he was going to transcend into something the Matrix itself never saw, why because as corny as it may sound alout of his power came from the Love He Had For Trinity.
    The one thing about the Matrix Trilogy is you can't watch them just once to get it and most people can't do that or have the time to do so.
    Religion/ Politics /Philosophy / Computer Technology/ Western and Japanese Anime film concepts.
    Layer after Layer with that big concept it's up to you to determine how far you want to go down the rabbit 🐇 hole as a viewer. The CG animation fight to me was the concept that people forget the Matrix is a Computer Program Simulation, The air the people none of it is real, the only thing that was an actual human being was Neo, who now can be human and a computer program so when it looked the way it did to me it made sense.
    Then people always forget Neo was a Hacker, so I think he used his hacking ability on a physical level then just sitting at a keyboard typing.
    If you get a chance there is a documentary on Hulu called A Glitch In The Matrix, I'm not saying I agree with what they say in the film, but for some The Matrix and Philip K Dick and his movies and books it made some people ask questions about the world around, some good some very very bad.
    Sorry, so long I'm a Nerd...

  • @faolon9343
    @faolon9343 3 года назад +6

    I'll try my best to explain what the architect said, for those who get lost:
    Essentially, when the matrix was created, human beings naturally rejected it, because humans reject being slaves, even if they don't consciously know that they're slaves. So humans would reject the matrix, break out, and end up dying since they had no ability to move or feed themselves once out of the matrix. Countless humans died, which cost the machines a lot of time and energy.
    One day, a program basically figured out that if you give the humans the illusion of choice, even at a subconscious level, they become far more willing to accept the matrix. But this still resulted in some humans rejecting it. Much fewer people rejected it than before, so the machines decided to push forward with a plan.
    So in order to deal with this, the machines created the "cycle of the one". Where one special human would be born every so often. This human's purpose would be to choose a set of men and women to free from the matrix after the machines wiped out the humans of Zion. Once freed, he would introduce these humans to the world similar to the way Neo was introduced. Once the freed humans were given their mission, the one would die, but tell the humans that he would be born again. Then his code would be reabsorbed by the machines and the cycle would begin again.
    So to these humans, The One is the person that broke them out of the matrix, then died as a result of giving them their freedom, with the promise of being reborn again some time later.
    This kept the humans in check. The cycle would continue again and again, except KeaNeo made different choices. Essentially breaking the cycle. In every other cycle, The One would wait for his people to be destroyed so that he could give the human race a chance to live. KeaNeo, on the other hand, risked humanity's safety in order to save Trinity. The architect dismisses him because his computer mind can't fathom any way in which the humans survive. They've become very efficient at killing humans, after all.

    • @glennwelsh9784
      @glennwelsh9784 3 года назад

      Due the existence of human choice, there will always be a small number of humans you will reject the Matrix and choose the Real World instead. No matter how ideal or "perfect" the Machines make each new version of the Matrix, they will never get 100% of humans to pick the Matrix. It's a mathematical impossibility. And that small percentage of people will inevitably multiply, unplug more people, and become a threat to the Matrix's stability. The Machines couldn't control human choice, but they could anticipate the outcome of their choices and planned accordingly, creating the cycle of destruction and reconstruction of Zion, which is the true purpose of The One. Each time Zion gets too big and becomes too much of a threat to the Matrix, the Machines destroy it, and The One is tasked with rebooting the Matrix with the code he carries and choosing a handful of humans to unplug in order to rebuild Zion. The humans are lead to believe that The One is a messianic figure who will someday return to liberate humanity and defeat the Machines, but this is merely a lie they are told to make them more willing to help The One, unaware of his true purpose of keeping the cycle going.

    The matrix trilogy is a rabbit hole itself.
    It needs thoughts and questioning. Also ultimately needs multiples rewatchs to fully understand the journey. I get why people dont like the sequels cause they're undeniably flawed, but beyond that it's an epic story of a human world, where the original pinpointed caracters, as we usualy like stories in movies.
    But the third to me, considering the whole world built that we follow (instead of a simple caracter) culminates to a total epic.
    Not just in terms of the main caracters or the action, but philosophically.

      For example, the monologue by the Architect indicates that revisions of the matrix is necessary to collect the anomalies of the Matrix in basically the Neo application that has to return to the Source and then the system is rebooted to create a clean run of the matrix to ensure humans accept it in its 'clean' state to ensure maximum acceptance of the matrix (and hence more human batteries to power the machines). The one factor that is not taken into account by the machines is human resilience, hope and love and in that, this expected process allows for just enough possible deviations that an unexpected outcome is possible that destroys the matrix. Every key character in the matrix is a intended program but also a possibly hackable and changeable piece of software that affects the ultimate outcome. When the chosen one choses if save Zion, the city is destroyed but the computers free around 20 humans to start a new Zion and implant the code in another human inside the matrix (so the cycle repeats over and over), in this case Neo decided to save Trinity because he love her, the previous 5 chosen ones chose to save the city instead. So they initial story was worked out. However when it came time to make a sequel because the movie was so popular the Wojakowski sisters had to come up with their own plots, story line and motivations.

    I'm biased, but I think you should push through with the third film. Don't know if you'll like it, but at this point you've already practically watched the first half of the movie anyways.
    Cliff notes for what the Architect was talking about:
    When the Matrix was made the first two versions failed miserably because humans would reject them outright, either because it was too perfect or too horrible. The "systemic anomaly" he's talking about is human choice. When enough humans CHOOSE to reject the system the anomaly builds up and eventually crashes the Matrix in a spectacular heap of failure. When looking for solutions to fix this the machines turned to a program who seemed to have a solution (or at least a good enough one), a program initially created to figure out what makes humans tick: the Oracle.
    The solution was to make a normal human world, and they discovered that if humans were given a subconscious choice on whether to accept or reject the Matrix 99% of them would. Still, that 1% was still a problem. With enough build-up of the "systemic anomaly" the Matrix would still crash, so to patch this they concocted Zion and the One:
    Zion is essentially a controlled resistance. A small bunch of troublesome humans would be let out and allowed to build a society underground and out of the way to not be too much of a bother. Hell, they even pull other troublesome humans out of the Matrix. How courteous of them! After about 100 years, once Zion got big enough, it would be destroyed and replaced by a new batch of humans. This is where the One comes in. While it's not stated outright, it's implied that the one is given their power over the Matrix by the machines, basically admin privileges, as a kind of avatar of human choice. They would then be tasked with returning to the Source where they'd be given a "choice:" go to the Source, dump your code, which reboots the Matrix, resolves the problem of choice, and temporarily stave off the system crash it causes, then lead the select humans to rebuild Zion, or...don't, let the crash happen killing everyone in the Matrix and let the machines destroy humanity.
    So yeah, not really a choice. Zion is the machines bargaining chip and they're counting on the One to prioritize saving humanity as a whole, even if it means perpetuating the machine's cyclical system of control. The five ones before Neo chose to go along with it, let Zion be destroyed, reboot the Matrix, and take 23 humans from the Matrix to become the "first to be awakened." But while the other One's were "programmed" with a general love of humanity, Neo has a specific attachment to one person which causes him to act "irrationally" and choose not to reboot. Badabing badaboom, now here we are.
    Also, the guy at the end was Bane, the guy that was about to stab Neo before they left and ALSO the guy we saw get overwritten by Smith ("Oh God!" "Smith will suffice"). Also all the people telling you the reason Neo has powers "outside the Matrix" is because the real world is just another Matrix are 100% wrong. His powers aren't even technically in the real world. I'll leave it at that since explaining more would spoil the third movie. It'll be interesting to hear what you think of Revolutions, since that's definitely the most controversial/ambiguous of the three films.
    Also, if you're invested enough and haven't already watched the third film, watch a let's play of Enter the Matrix. It's a canon video game that was released the same time as the second film and is basically a sidequel to this movie that follows Niobe and her partner Ghost. It fills in some confusing parts of this and the next film and fleshes out a lot of the side characters who feature heavily in the third film. It's not really "necessary," so if you're not super into it you don't have to watch it, but it'll give you a better sense of the bigger picture.

    The biggest problem with the second and third film being so rough. Is that the studio pushed them to rush it off the success of the first movie. Ultimately it was supposed to be 5 films but the studio didn't think it could have been successful because trilogies were the norm. So so much was jammed packed and confusing for many. And the traditional story structure was lost making it an unbalanced pace. So all the important facts for the overall story were given screen time and character development screen time lost.
    Fun fact: in the box set. They have commentary by a critic that praises the series and they allowed (which was cool) another critic to do negative commentary on it.

    I only recently found out there are people who don't like the "sequels". Had no idea. Everyone I've ever known has viewed the three movies as a trilogy with every part being as important. Just watching the first one would be like reading 1/3 of a book. The story has just get going in the first movie, like what are people even talking about? Watch the first movie only and don't find out how the story goes?

    Ok what the Architect is saying is that the year is NOT what we think it is. In the first movie Morpheus says its nearly 150 to 200 years later then he thought it was while in the Matrix. In truth it's been Hundreds of years, there has been 5 other times they have let people out of the Matrix so far, however the Orical Did make a proficy about 1 who would put an end to the war, however the first 5 clearly chose to enter the mainframe and start over. Once they entered the codes in his head would be given to the machine and they could then kill zion. So yes the first 5 failed. Neo chose different. Plus he saved trinity, so clearly he defied the Architect twice already.

    I find both sequels the same quality, they don't really stick the landing of the end, hence why so many people say it's worse then the second. Yet I still think it's worth watching.

    Dude, I think the Matrix sequels are a bit underrated. It's not that people are dumb, it's just that nobody gives a shit about philosophy. LOL. But there are a lot of layers to them - I picked up on religious and philosophical undertones because at the time these movies came out, that's what I was into. I was a pretty straight-edge Youth Group kid, and I felt like it was my responsibility to remind people that faith isn't just something reserved for church and psych wards. (Like the Five Ones made me think of Moses, Abraham, Elijah, David, and / or whoever that was and that Neo was a representation of "Jesus" which deviated from the previous.)
    I also really love how everything can be explained through computer terms - Smith was a program that got corrupted through a incomplete deletion, and then became a virus.

Nobody is forcing you to watch these videos, if a reactor is watching something you know you don't like, just don't click on the video, simple as that.

    Do you remember the first man Smith changed into a copy of himself? He was a human in the real world that Smith infected. So a part of Smith is in him, controlling him. So the guy with the goatee is that human, so now Smith can be in the real world.

  • @rhoward9302

    This movie has a whole bunch of cool action sequences--the whole freeway chase is phenomenal--but it's got a bunch of ideas that really aren't well explained or fleshed out and a lot of bits that are simply the movie wasting time. There's no real reason to care aobut the multi-Smith fight because it's clear at the end Neo isn't in real danger--he can just fly away anytime he wants to. The whole bit with the Architect could have been really interesting, but it's so needlessly convoluted that it just comes off as being self-indulgent. And so, as viewers, we're kinda left not caring about a lot of this stuff and the movie suffers. I feel like it's close to being a really cool sequel, but not quite there. I always think of the ghost twins as a good example of what's wrong with the movie. They're really cool and I love what they do, but it's not really explained who they are, why they can do what they can do, or what their motivation is. We're not really given a chance to care about them, aside from saying "wow, that looks interesting".
    As for part 3, most of the film takes place outside the Matrix. Your enjoyment of the film depends heavily on how interesting you find that part of the story.

    • @SpearM3064

      Something to keep in mind is that some of the film ends up on the cutting room floor. I can't find any information on how much was deleted from _Reloaded,_ but anywhere from 10 minutes to more than 30 minutes is not uncommon (and on rare occasions, 50 minutes or more). So we don't know how much was cut or what was cut; maybe some of those explanations you were looking for, were among the footage cut in editing. I'm not saying you're wrong, though. I'm just saying that maybe some of this stuff (like the twins) might have been explained and the explanation got cut. We'll never know, unless 'lost footage' is found at some point in the future.

    U have to think about the Architect of the Matrix this way. One day WE will create a matrix, when we're more advanced. All the ppl in it will think theyre real, and that their life is real, and their world is real. But its a created simulation. Some think we're already in a simulation. Thats what The Matrix did, was open everyones minds to the possibility. Freaky huh? It sure explains weird phenomenons and deja vu tho!

    Once you've watched the second one, you may as well watch and put up the third one. They're basically one movie split in two, which is where a lot of their problems come from. Reloaded is all setup, and Revolutions is all payoff.
    Personally, I think Reloaded is the worst of the three. Revolutions is busy busy busy, but it has resolution at least.
