This is the first horror movie to win an Academy Award in the 21st century, because Jordan Peele made a movie where he didn't use characters making dumb decisions to create suspense. Kind of an anti-slasher.
On first viewing, it seems that Rose is arguing with Chris about the ID with the cop, to defend him from police overreach and profiling. Once you know the twist is revealedl and you think back to it, you start to realize it's that Rose didn't the cop to run and background check and leave a paper trail of Chris being there.

And by that we also know that his friend was supposed to be her next victim right from the beginning because he knew that he was going there to visit her family. she misjudged him and didn’t think of him as a threat because she didn’t think he would be loyal to his friend and would instead hook up with her plus thought he was stupid enough not to catch on how off the whole situation is😌 which could be a message for how a lot of (white) people secretly feel like they’re more intelligent than black people
Yeah, besides, protect your own game right? The product must be intact to serve the purpose. In addition, it is symbolically a criticism of the white savior, as they say, white can even save the day, but most of the time there is a greater interest in their actions and they are not caring about protecting the black ethnicity, and they commonly leave as heroes for facing the difficult and inevitable situation of racism that the black person cannot stop alone. Unfortunate.
There's a TON of foreshadowing in this movie on a second viewing when you know the twist. - Rose stands up to the cop in the beginning so there won't be a record of Chris coming to the town after he disappears. - Right as Dean says they keep a piece of his mother in the kitchen, we see Georgina, who his mother is inhabiting. - They directly ask if Chris smokes, to find out how healthy they can advertise his body as being. - The people coming to the auction are all driving black cars, just like they want to "drive" black bodies. - The possessed people all have ways of hiding the scars on their heads, with Georgina's bangs, and Walter and Logan's hats. - Mr. Tanaka asks if being black is "an advantage or disadvantage," because he wants to know if it would be a step up from being Asian. - Logan immediately tells Philomena what Chris said about seeing another black person, not realizing what a breach of etiquette this is considered in the black community since he's really an old white man. - Rose convinces Chris to go for a walk as the Bingo game starts, to stop any chance of him realizing it's actually an auction. And those are just the ones coming to me now. I'm sure there's more.
There's a ton of symbolism with the colors. A few are the people at the party wearing red, black or white. Rose has a red and white striped top there. Chris wears blue and Rose also early on but with black underneath. Rose's bedding is blue on the top but yellow underneath. The teacup is a blue pattern with yellow tea inside. Yellow and blue make green, which is the camouflage color worn by Walter. The camouflage hides Rose and Missy's evil intentions while they seem to be benign on the outside. It's definitely worth looking for an in-depth analysis of that. Jordan Peele put in so much detail.
The Logan when I got because I'm looking crazy I was like n***** why'd you say that for it was something I would have said. The driving back cars cuz they want to drive black bodies I didn't see that because when Walter hugged the friends that came to the house I was like black help wouldn't have done that in real life. The Asian guy asking Chris if it was a disadvantage or advantage being black I got that because a lot of minorities think that black people have a better than they do . Rose telling Chris let's go for a walk I got that as soon as I saw the bingo cards. When Rose confronted the cop about asking for Chris's ID that wouldn't happen in real life because white people don't realize that that happens a lot to black people and it doesn't happened to white people. Perfect example the falcon &the Winter soldier episode 2 when Sam and bucky are talking about Isaiah and the cops pulled up instead of asking both Sam and Bucky what's going on they immediately asked Sam for his Id and ask Bucky if Sam was bothering him
Yes just when rewatching it’s like almost every sentence the dad says alludes to what will happen. Also at the beginning Chris jokes to Rose he doesn’t wanna be chased off the lawn with a shotgon, she laughed at him and said of course not. At the end she the one doing exactly that! And Walter the gardener kinda over compliments rose in a way that you would think is just weird compliments an older guy would make but He was one of her victims so he once knew her as “sweet and a real keeper”
Also, if you've seen Rosemary's Baby, there is one Asian man with the group at the end. This reminded me of that. Peele has said he took inspiration from Rosemary's Baby. There is also a lot of Stepford Wives in this.
The way the deer are kind of analogous to black people, whether it's the deer who was hit and left on the side of the road (like Chris's mom), the dad talking about how they overpopulate the place and need to be eradicated, or the fact that the deer was used to kill the dad (by Chris's hands). The fact that the dad said there's nothing in the basement--just "black mold." The black people were being molded into something different. The fact that a snippet of the United Negro College Fund commercial played "a mind is a terrible thing to waste" while they were literally throwing away black brains. It was a lot lol.
Having Rose use her cold "you know I'm evil" face while talking to Rod on the phone, is one of the creepiest things I've seen in film in a very long time.
The reveal of that airport police logo on the squad car was one of the entire decade's biggest "Stand up and cheer" moments in movie theaters. And quite incredibly, the film was originally going to end on a complete downer note where Chris is arrested and unable to even remember what happened when Rod visits him in prison. Peele definitely made the right choice to change it, not least because audiences in 2017 really needed that kind of release.
Yeah when I saw the door open and it said airport and rod got out of the car I already knew what Chris was thinking & how he felt the ,same way I knew what Chris was thinking and how you felt when Rose revealed that she was part of the plan because every black person has had that feeling when the white person that they give you trust to turns on them
@@OGBReacts I have a theory. If this movie was made in the 70s, the police ending would have been the ending they went with. Movies in the 70s were way more about showing what would really happen and that’s most likely. No matter how bad it is. They weren’t afraid to end movies on a sad note. But this movie definitely works better with this ending. 100% better
This movie is genius!!! There is an alternate ending where it doesn’t go well for Chris. They decided to go with this ending because it gave a sense of hope in the midst of the climate of the USA at the time of the theatrical release. Great reaction!!
I remember sitting in the theater opening weekend .. And my thought at the end was that he was going to pull a "Night of the Living Dead" ending .. Which if hadn't been for the Rod character I'm betting that's where this film was going to go.
The alternate ending for this film rivals The Mist (2007) and Night of the Living Dead (1968) in terms of sheer horror and hopelessness and disgust lmao, as well as guts in terms of the filmmakers' intentions
So good. Such an important film too as we've seen lots of depictions of racism based on phobia, but very little on philia, the coveting and appropriation; by the kinds of people who would insist that their 'love' could not be harmful even as the people themselves say otherwise. An unbelievable political statement that's also just a terrific movie too.
I don't think so, this movie are so predictable, so obviously , at the first minute already know the white people are bad and the black people are the victims. No surprised to think the girlfriend know everything, was her family. Stupid plop twist more if you know the director of the movie are black . The black protagonist are saved in the end without sense, totally out of context. I love the cinematography but the script are really predictable to the audience and also predictable to the main character. I don't feel empathy to the protagonist because he isn't act to a normal person . All the situation scream get out but he stay normally because the script say so. When I started to watch the movie for the first time whit my father I tell him the white people act strange , they are bad and the black protagonist gonna suffer and then he will survive. Simple as that

@@peperino25 I can understand where you are coming from. The difference was in the way the "suffering" is presented and where it stems from. We all knew that the white characters were going to be the bad guy. That was never in question, but the idea of over-fetishization of black bodies, popularity and culture becoming the danger is what made it different.not many movies about racism show this side of prejudices and stereotypes. And yes, he did make some really dumb decisions but I'll chuck it up to denial and the fact that alot of people tend to act and think irrationally when in stressful and/or terrifying situations. Plus the original ending had the main character get arrested and throne in jail but it didn't do well with test audiences. So he gave it a happier ending
@@flovonnejohnson707 It's true, I didn't know about the alternate ending. when i saw the movie for the first time I liked the performances and I loved the cinematography, but it made me very predictable and the ending ended up ruining my experience. I think that the idea you put forward would have been much better realized with the alternate ending. Happy endings are not always the best option. Directors with real balls don't depend on a test audience to finish their movie. The fact of wanting to concentrate the audience with a happy ending. It ruins the experience of entertaining an audience by giving them a realistic ending to think about. It is only a point of view, anyway very good comment, greetings
@@peperino25 Another part of the context is that it was scheduled to come out around the time of another high profile killing of an unarmed black person and the audience was really in the mood for a "win" more than they would normally have been. I also think that you still prep yourself for an even worse ending when you see the lights. I totally thought he was going to be murdered by a cop not put in jail. That it turned out to be his friend is was a huge twist to me.
I love when the cop is talking to them after they hit the deer, and asks to see Chris' ID--Rose immediately demands to know why, and appears to jump to Chris' defense. But in actuality, she didn't want the cop to see Chris' ID because it would create a paper trail when Chris is eventually reported missing.
the funny thing is, that party scene where all the party-goers are saying uncomfortable shit to Chris is not that far-fetched. that's how some white people talk to black people all the time and they often don't realize how offensive they're being. the amount of microaggressions that black folks have to endure on a daily basis are innumerable. that's why in the scene when Rose is brushing her teeth and she asks Chris how he can be so calm, he just shrugs it off. that's just like a Tuesday for him. anyway, great reaction as always. you should watch Us next, also my Jordan Peele. It would be so cool if you reacted to the Jordan Peele breakdown of the movie. He broke down the movie and reacted to people theories about the movie and confirmed some of them. It makes the movie so much more interesting.
Bradley Whitford revealed a couple years later that he actually didn't realize "I would have voted for Obama a third time if I could" was supposed to be a condescending "limousine liberal" line, resulting in his completely sincere delivery. And he fully admitted how much this made him part of the very crowd that the movie is attacking. He's actually also playing kind of a similar role now in The Handmaid's Tale, someone who truly thinks of himself as one of the good guys standing up for women, but who still falls prey to his thoughtless, privileged viewpoint.
I think that's one of the most subtle forms of "othering" that a lot of us (myself included) don't even realize is a form of racism when we participate in it. One of the best things about this movie is the conversations it starts and the mirror it holds up to white people who think they're not the problem- I have definitely had more harsh realizations about my own behavior and language over the past few years and hopefully am learning how to do better. I think it's great if we can keep our minds open to how we ourselves might need to change.
Those of us who aren’t psychotic bigots have a foundation level of empathy for people who have to wonder with every new encounter if this person is going to be hateful or even dangerous. We want so badly to put them at ease that we go overboard with the “I’m safe! I’m not going to judge you!” It must get so exhausting to tolerate us

@@ScientificallyStupid From my experience, it’s not that it’s exhausting to relearn speech. For crying out loud, we all willingly say things like “doggo” and “lolz “ in conversation now. It’s because that in learning how to speak inclusively, we have to face that we HAVEN’T been. Even if we didn’t mean it, didn’t know it, we still messed up someone’s day at minimum. That sucks to realize. So we get defensive and downplay the importance of how we speak so we don’t have to face the consequences of how we have been speaking.

There initially WAS an ending where the cop that pulled up at the end was white and Chris was taken in for multiple murders but Peele ultimately decided that the movie deserved a happier ending.
Just as with Misery, great reaction! You're a great fit for movies like this: horror/thrillers that have a bit of room for a comedic tone. But I wonder how you would do with horror that has nothing funny about it whatsoever e.g., The Others, The Ring, The Orphanage... I think it would work! You have a great, natural, comedic presence. It's already getting a bit hard to remember that Jordan Peele was seen entirely as a sketch comedian before making this film (and if you haven't seen it, Key and Peele is some of the best sketch comedy of the past 20 years). Absolutely no one predicted he had something like this in him, and the film's release just shortly after the start of the Trump presidency was a welcome sign of the ability of art to stand up to power. It's been great to see him continue on this road since, despite his talking about suffering serious Imposter Syndrome over the sudden turn in his career.

From the point of the RUN RABBIT song started playing from the following white car, I was on edge and a bowl of nerves when I first saw this. This movie was deep and a reflection on many real life behaviors. In our American history, black people were auctioned slaves. The silent auction scene in this movie was a reflection of that. The discovery about the auctioneers wanting to possess the natural born skills, gifts and swag of black people says something about how white supremacists think themselves superior to black people and yet envy and hate us for having said gifts that they think we don't deserve, but they do. How, even today people who hate us, yet consume and live their lives imitating all things black. Music, clothing, hair, urban lingo, swagger, body image. It may also reflect the elite black people who change once their financial status changes. They don't associate themselves with who they were before coming into money, and act like they don't recognize the black community unless they are in the same financial bracket. The way the family and the auctioneers spoke to him, fetishized him and touched him without permission is something we go through still today. Yes, in the 21st century we still have people walking up and touching our hair and skin like they think their entitled to without our permission, or if we even mind it. And they are still asking inappropriate questions.

It works as a campy horror title, also is what you (and others) scream at the characters in the movie, signifies the mentality of racists who want black people to “get out” of “their” neighborhoods and spaces, and suggests the attempt to escape from the sunken place, including as a metaphor.
If you find this compelling, I highly recommend reacting to a movie very accurately based on true events from 1971: The Stanford Prison Experiment (2015) It will never win a patreon poll, so all I'm relying on is your own curiosity of how real psychology compares to psychological horror movies.
3:58 Ok, so outside of movie world I want to let people know to pay attention to what the black person is doing and how they are reacting in situations like this. Because, he wanted the situation over and done with and yes what the cop did was wrong but honestly, most of the time people end up making things worse for us when it wasn't a battle worth fighting in the first place. If the black person in the situation tell you to let it go or leave it alone. Please let it go. I can't tell you how many times my white friends have made a situation worse when I wanted them to let it go. Learn to pick your battles. This ain't hate or anything but some honest advice about these situations.

TWO REACTIONS IN ONE WEEK! (I looooooved the Monster Squad but have had to think about how to distill my thoughts into a constructive comment because it gave me all kinds of feelings, I was basically shouting through the whole thing). One thing that's really interesting to me that I'm not sure has been pointed out is the opening song- the performer is singing in Swahili: "Sikiliza kwa wahenga"- and it means something like, "Listen to your ancestors, brother, run, something bad is coming".

There's always envy about someONE who's smarter, or stronger, or more pretty/handsome. But this movie really gave us a look into race envy. Going to the ultimate crime of stealing bodies and minds; doing brain surgery to accomplish that by placing ones conscienceness inside another (and subverting that person's consciousness). Truly diabolical and evil. What an amazing film! Makes you think about the ethics. One day, science will have solved the issue of neurosurgery at the nano-level. The ability to successfully connect back up two resected peripheral nerves so that the completed nerve fiber functions. (See: Christopher Reeve). Then do that same thing for brain tissue. Then the idea of putting an old person to sleep (eg, 80-90 year old) via cryo-processes and then removing that head and successfully attaching it back atop a young body. Wow.
1:36 "I think he said a left on, uh... what was that?" I don't blame this guy for being lost. He's in a strange suburb, at _night._ I mean, I don't know why we started laying out residential neighborhoods in the kinds of _twists_ and _bends_ that characterize suburbs. Neighborhoods are _so_ much easier to navigate when the streets are in a _grid,_ so you can pick out your cardinal _directions._
The good news is the theater version ended good like the one you saw when his buddy arrived in the police car. In the alternate ending which is terrible and heartbreaking is in RUclips. Have a look lol
I figured when I was seeing the ads for this back in day that this was going to be like skeleton key. Very similar story but different means. I didn't see the brain transplant thing coming. Thought it'd be more supernatural or like they're possess ing them or something but I figured how the servants was acting they used to be white people possessing the black people bodies like they switched bodies so they can get younger bodies lol. Especially how that woman was looking out the window or at herself like Michael Myers does in Halloween kills. She looked like in a trance or spell or hypothesis lol or possessed lol
Original ending was gonna call for the cop car to actually be a cop and not the friend and the cop would obviously assume a black guy was trying to assault a white girl.
@@themiIes Yeah, it was supposed to allude to the way white cops have been treating black suspects. The director wanted to make a comment on that, definitely. But everyone would’ve hated that ending even though it would’ve made a good point, so we have the ending that we see.

In addition, it is symbolically a criticism of the white savior, as they say, white can even save the day, but most of the time there is a greater interest in their actions and they are not caring about protecting the black ethnicity, and they commonly leave as heroes for facing the difficult and inevitable situation of racism that the black person cannot stop alone. Unfortunate.
There's a TON of foreshadowing in this movie on a second viewing when you know the twist.
- Rose stands up to the cop in the beginning so there won't be a record of Chris coming to the town after he disappears.
- Right as Dean says they keep a piece of his mother in the kitchen, we see Georgina, who his mother is inhabiting.
- They directly ask if Chris smokes, to find out how healthy they can advertise his body as being.
- The people coming to the auction are all driving black cars, just like they want to "drive" black bodies.
- The possessed people all have ways of hiding the scars on their heads, with Georgina's bangs, and Walter and Logan's hats.
- Mr. Tanaka asks if being black is "an advantage or disadvantage," because he wants to know if it would be a step up from being Asian.
- Logan immediately tells Philomena what Chris said about seeing another black person, not realizing what a breach of etiquette this is considered in the black community since he's really an old white man.
- Rose convinces Chris to go for a walk as the Bingo game starts, to stop any chance of him realizing it's actually an auction.
And those are just the ones coming to me now. I'm sure there's more.
There's a ton of symbolism with the colors. A few are the people at the party wearing red, black or white. Rose has a red and white striped top there. Chris wears blue and Rose also early on but with black underneath. Rose's bedding is blue on the top but yellow underneath. The teacup is a blue pattern with yellow tea inside. Yellow and blue make green, which is the camouflage color worn by Walter. The camouflage hides Rose and Missy's evil intentions while they seem to be benign on the outside. It's definitely worth looking for an in-depth analysis of that. Jordan Peele put in so much detail.
The Logan when I got because I'm looking crazy I was like n***** why'd you say that for it was something I would have said. The driving back cars cuz they want to drive black bodies I didn't see that because when Walter hugged the friends that came to the house I was like black help wouldn't have done that in real life.
The Asian guy asking Chris if it was a disadvantage or advantage being black I got that because a lot of minorities think that black people have a better than they do .
Rose telling Chris let's go for a walk I got that as soon as I saw the bingo cards.
When Rose confronted the cop about asking for Chris's ID that wouldn't happen in real life because white people don't realize that that happens a lot to black people and it doesn't happened to white people. Perfect example the falcon &the Winter soldier episode 2 when Sam and bucky are talking about Isaiah and the cops pulled up instead of asking both Sam and Bucky what's going on they immediately asked Sam for his Id and ask Bucky if Sam was bothering him
Yes just when rewatching it’s like almost every sentence the dad says alludes to what will happen. Also at the beginning Chris jokes to Rose he doesn’t wanna be chased off the lawn with a shotgon, she laughed at him and said of course not. At the end she the one doing exactly that!
And Walter the gardener kinda over compliments rose in a way that you would think is just weird compliments an older guy would make but He was one of her victims so he once knew her as “sweet and a real keeper”
Also, if you've seen Rosemary's Baby, there is one Asian man with the group at the end. This reminded me of that. Peele has said he took inspiration from Rosemary's Baby. There is also a lot of Stepford Wives in this.
The way the deer are kind of analogous to black people, whether it's the deer who was hit and left on the side of the road (like Chris's mom), the dad talking about how they overpopulate the place and need to be eradicated, or the fact that the deer was used to kill the dad (by Chris's hands).
The fact that the dad said there's nothing in the basement--just "black mold." The black people were being molded into something different.
The fact that a snippet of the United Negro College Fund commercial played "a mind is a terrible thing to waste" while they were literally throwing away black brains.
It was a lot lol.
Having Rose use her cold "you know I'm evil" face while talking to Rod on the phone, is one of the creepiest things I've seen in film in a very long time.

The reveal of that airport police logo on the squad car was one of the entire decade's biggest "Stand up and cheer" moments in movie theaters. And quite incredibly, the film was originally going to end on a complete downer note where Chris is arrested and unable to even remember what happened when Rod visits him in prison. Peele definitely made the right choice to change it, not least because audiences in 2017 really needed that kind of release.

Movies in the 70s were way more about showing what would really happen and that’s most likely. No matter how bad it is. They weren’t afraid to end movies on a sad note. This movie is genius!!! There is an alternate ending where it doesn’t go well for Chris. They decided to go with this ending because it gave a sense of hope in the midst of the climate of the USA at the time of the theatrical release. Great reaction!!

I remember sitting in the theater opening weekend .. And my thought at the end was that he was going to pull a "Night of the Living Dead" ending .. Which if hadn't been for the Rod character I'm betting that's where this film was going to go.
The alternate ending for this film rivals The Mist (2007) and Night of the Living Dead (1968) in terms of sheer horror and hopelessness and disgust lmao, as well as guts in terms of the filmmakers' intentions

I don't think so, this movie are so predictable, so obviously , at the first minute already know the white people are bad and the black people are the victims. No surprised to think the girlfriend know everything, was her family. Stupid plop twist more if you know the director of the movie are black . The black protagonist are saved in the end without sense, totally out of context. I love the cinematography but the script are really predictable to the audience and also predictable to the main character. I don't feel empathy to the protagonist because he isn't act to a normal person . All the situation scream get out but he stay normally because the script say so. When I started to watch the movie for the first time whit my father I tell him the white people act strange , they are bad and the black protagonist gonna suffer and then he will survive. @@peperino25 I can understand where you are coming from. The difference was in the way the "suffering" is presented and where it stems from. We all knew that the white characters were going to be the bad guy. That was never in question, but the idea of over-fetishization of black bodies, popularity and culture becoming the danger is what made it different.not many movies about racism show this side of prejudices and stereotypes. And yes, he did make some really dumb decisions but I'll chuck it up to denial and the fact that alot of people tend to act and think irrationally when in stressful and/or terrifying situations. Plus the original ending had the main character get arrested and throne in jail but it didn't do well with test audiences. So he gave it a happier ending

when i saw the movie for the first time
I liked the performances and I loved the cinematography, but it made me very predictable and the ending ended up ruining my experience. I think that the idea you put forward would have been much better realized with the alternate ending. Happy endings are not always the best option. Directors with real balls don't depend on a test audience to finish their movie.

@@peperino25 Another part of the context is that it was scheduled to come out around the time of another high profile killing of an unarmed black person and the audience was really in the mood for a "win" more than they would normally have been. I also think that you still prep yourself for an even worse ending when you see the lights. I totally thought he was going to be murdered by a cop not put in jail. That it turned out to be his friend is was a huge twist to me.
The hypnosis scene where he falls into the sunken place for the first time, is one of the best scenes I’ve ever seen in cinema. Period

But in actuality, she didn't want the cop to see Chris' ID because it would create a paper trail when Chris is eventually reported missing.
the funny thing is, that party scene where all the party-goers are saying uncomfortable shit to Chris is not that far-fetched. that's how some white people talk to black people all the time and they often don't realize how offensive they're being. the amount of microaggressions that black folks have to endure on a daily basis are innumerable. that's why in the scene when Rose is brushing her teeth and she asks Chris how he can be so calm, he just shrugs it off. that's just like a Tuesday for him. anyway, great reaction as always. you should watch Us next, also my Jordan Peele. This movie is an absolute masterpiece ♥ Jordan Peeles directing is fantastic. Hope you will do US too one day!
Bradley Whitford revealed a couple years later that he actually didn't realize "I would have voted for Obama a third time if I could" was supposed to be a condescending "limousine liberal" line, resulting in his completely sincere delivery. And he fully admitted how much this made him part of the very crowd that the movie is attacking. He's actually also playing kind of a similar role now in The Handmaid's Tale, someone who truly thinks of himself as one of the good guys standing up for women, but who still falls prey to his thoughtless, privileged viewpoint.
I think that's one of the most subtle forms of "othering" that a lot of us (myself included) don't even realize is a form of racism when we participate in it. One of the best things about this movie is the conversations it starts and the mirror it holds up to white people who think they're not the problem- I have definitely had more harsh realizations about my own behavior and language over the past few years and hopefully am learning how to do better. I think it's great if we can keep our minds open to how we ourselves might need to change.
Those of us who aren’t psychotic bigots have a foundation level of empathy for people who have to wonder with every new encounter if this person is going to be hateful or even dangerous. We want so badly to put them at ease that we go overboard with the “I’m safe! I’m not going to judge you!”

It’s because that in learning how to speak inclusively, we have to face that we HAVEN’T been. Even if we didn’t mean it, didn’t know it, we still messed up someone’s day at minimum. That sucks to realize. So we get defensive and downplay the importance of how we speak so we don’t have to face the consequences of how we have been speaking.

There initially WAS an ending where the cop that pulled up at the end was white and Chris was taken in for multiple murders but Peele ultimately decided that the movie deserved a happier ending.
Just as with Misery, great reaction! You're a great fit for movies like this: horror/thrillers that have a bit of room for a comedic tone. But I wonder how you would do with horror that has nothing funny about it whatsoever e.g., The Others, The Ring, The Orphanage... I think it would work! You have a great, natural, comedic presence. It's already getting a bit hard to remember that Jordan Peele was seen entirely as a sketch comedian before making this film (and if you haven't seen it, Key and Peele is some of the best sketch comedy of the past 20 years). Absolutely no one predicted he had something like this in him, and the film's release just shortly after the start of the Trump presidency was a welcome sign of the ability of art to stand up to power. It's been great to see him continue on this road since, despite his talking about suffering serious Imposter Syndrome over the sudden turn in his career.

I was born in 96 and no president in my lifetime has been anywhere near the level being worthy of being called "Good"
From the point of the RUN RABBIT song started playing from the following white car, I was on edge and a bowl of nerves when I first saw this.
This movie was deep and a reflection on many real life behaviors. In our American history, black people were auctioned slaves. The silent auction scene in this movie was a reflection of that.
The discovery about the auctioneers wanting to possess the natural born skills, gifts and swag of black people says something about how white supremacists think themselves superior to black people and yet envy and hate us for having said gifts that they think we don't deserve, but they do. How, even today people who hate us, yet consume and live their lives imitating all things black. Music, clothing, hair, urban lingo, swagger, body image.
It may also reflect the elite black people who change once their financial status changes. They don't associate themselves with who they were before coming into money, and act like they don't recognize the black community unless they are in the same financial bracket.
The way the family and the auctioneers spoke to him, fetishized him and touched him without permission is something we go through still today.
Yes, in the 21st century we still have people walking up and touching our hair and skin like they think their entitled to without our permission, or if we even mind it. And they are still asking inappropriate questions.
About to watch this reaction! 🤗 Instant classic. I love the title as well. It works as a campy horror title, also is what you (and others) scream at the characters in the movie, signifies the mentality of racists who want black people to “get out” of “their” neighborhoods and spaces, and suggests the attempt to escape from the sunken place, including as a metaphor.

Ok, so outside of movie world I want to let people know to pay attention to what the black person is doing and how they are reacting in situations like this. Because, he wanted the situation over and done with and yes what the cop did was wrong but honestly, most of the time people end up making things worse for us when it wasn't a battle worth fighting in the first place. If the black person in the situation tell you to let it go or leave it alone. Please let it go. I can't tell you how many times my white friends have made a situation worse when I wanted them to let it go. Learn to pick your battles. This ain't hate or anything but some honest advice about these situations.

This movie and Antebellum (2020) gives us “social thriller” in spades!
There's always envy about someONE who's smarter, or stronger, or more pretty/handsome. But this movie really gave us a look into race envy. Going to the ultimate crime of stealing bodies and minds; doing brain surgery to accomplish that by placing ones conscienceness inside another (and subverting that person's consciousness). Truly diabolical and evil. What an amazing film! Makes you think about the ethics.
One day, science will have solved the issue of neurosurgery at the nano-level. The ability to successfully connect back up two resected peripheral nerves so that the completed nerve fiber functions. (See: Christopher Reeve). Then do that same thing for brain tissue. Then the idea of putting an old person to sleep (eg, 80-90 year old) via cryo-processes and then removing that head and successfully attaching it back atop a young body. Wow.
Now you really need to react to Jordan Peele's "Us"
A gr8 Halloween movie to watch is "You might be the killer" 2018. Comedy Horror in the vein of Friday the 13th.

He's in a strange suburb, at _night._ I mean, I don't know why we started laying out residential neighborhoods in the kinds of _twists_ and _bends_ that characterize suburbs. Neighborhoods are _so_ much easier to navigate when the streets are in a _grid,_ so you can pick out your cardinal _directions._

I figured when I was seeing the ads for this back in day that this was going to be like skeleton key. Very similar story but different means. I didn't see the brain transplant thing coming. Thought it'd be more supernatural or like they're possess ing them or something but I figured how the servants was acting they used to be white people possessing the black people bodies like they switched bodies so they can get younger bodies lol. Especially how that woman was looking out the window or at herself like Michael Myers does in Halloween kills. She looked like in a trance or spell or hypothesis lol or possessed lol
Original ending was gonna call for the cop car to actually be a cop and not the friend and the cop would obviously assume a black guy was trying to assault a white girl.
It says a lot that everybody watching this movie goes "Oh fuck no" when they see a cop car pulling up at first.
@@themiIes Yeah, it was supposed to allude to the way white cops have been treating black suspects. The director wanted to make a comment on that, definitely. But everyone would’ve hated that ending even though it would’ve made a good point, so we have the ending that we see.

That woman seems like she's having trouble keeping a lid on the woman she's possessing lol. Like the other guys they good until there's a flash then they snap out of it for a second but that woman she has a few times where she's in a daze or maybe the host is fighting for control and she's losing control then has to snap control back lol and be like no no no no no no no no lol.
