Aggreed. Metal definitely deserves way more subs. And he will he get them. But seeing other channels (that they have no idea what they are talking about) with 20k or 50k subs make my eyes roll. Boy life is unfair

Thank you so much! I was thinking to buy these as my second Beyerdynamic pair but after watching this I changed my mind Beyerdynamic Custom Studio is what I'm getting 🥂
This is the best channel for headphone reviews, we need to get the word out there guys, and I know from experience that this man is spot on..... and yes he does reply to your questions, excellent stuff
I love this review although it was disappointing because I’ve just heard these and I agree. I thought my hearing was off! Somehow I was wanting to be blown away by these based on my love for BD DT770, and the better build quality.
After several weeks of EQing my dt1770 (leatherette pads), I ended up with next results for EDM (liquid/neurofunk, deep house/techno): tamed aggressiveness on top, rich and full on bottom and vivid upper mids. Sounds nice at high volume and fatigues less. Preamp: -4 dB 40 Hz Gain 3 dB Q 4 280 Hz Gain 1.5 dB Q 3 4200 Hz Gain 2 dB Q 3 7000 Hz Gain -3 dB Q 10 8000 Hz Gain -3.5 dB Q 6 9000 Hz Gain -3 dB Q 10
This guy's the best that I have seen on here for headphone reviews, period! He is absolutely genuine. When he compared these to the K240 in the bass department, I swear I fell off my chair .. I had to rewind and hear him at least 3 times .. cos he is sooo right about that!! Man, for a guy who must be listening to sooo many headphones and reviewing them, he tracks them down so narrowly to one specific issue and can relate that to another pair of headphones that sound like that just in that narrow frequency ....jeez...! K240 mii sounds soo muddy in the bass that it is not even funny. Was hoping that these 1770s would be a real upgrade to the 770s but boy is this guy so honest and just tore that fallacy apart! Awesome man! You are the best!
@@metal571 No worries, you are the man with the bionic ears I swear! And you have the vocab to get it across which is great too. I am in the throws of getting a good one for vocal recording more on the classical nuances side where pitch, articulation and fine riff perfections are important to the singers tracking with not so loud music .. I noticed that they get put off if there is too much bass expression generally even in the lower mids and of course they would love the boost of the higher mids and treble. I have tried AKG, Koss and Samson and vocals are getting drowned .. am told that 770 or a 7506 or a Shure 840 are good for vocals .. what would you recommend in this scenario? I can stretch it to 500 bucks, cheers.
metal571 thank you again for your review of those they are indeed spectacular. I remember you saying on Reddit that the 177X was less detailed than the K371, so I had to get a K371 to really hear for myself...I couldn’t believe it, you were absolutely right. I still like the 177X, and difference is small but you’d expect the 177X to be much better. I think I like the K371 more, which I’m still having trouble wrapping my head around because they’re half the price! Cheers
I find it curious how they decided to include pads that, I assume, are meant to be swapped for different scenarios, but made the change as inconvenient yet doable as possible.
Ryan Lackey Hey just wanted to ask, they talk about sibilance in regards to beyer headphones. Is this a huge problem I don’t like harsh treble in which case should I stay clear.
Sent it back quickly after getting a unit in for eval and potential review because it looked to me like a front-damped, low impedance version of a 1770. Front damping a driver does pull the treble down but literally veils the sound and makes detail worse because of the physical barrier in place there, and we were already starting with a worse sounding driver here from the 1770 so...
I dont plan to use these for professional use mainly just music, gaming and movies. I could maybe settle for the Amiron Home, but seeing your review on that one makes me lean more towards this one also im a huge sucker for BASS !
An off topic - I cant really say why, but tone of your voice is so calm and natural, that it makes listening to it such a pleasant and relaxing experience :)
The DT1770 is an interesting case. Casuals love them, audiophiles dislike them. As a producer looking for great headphones to use when producing while traveling it's very hard finding decent cans when the opinions are so varied.
This is soo late, it'll probably be invisible, but just gotta say, your channel is excellent. Was really looking at these, as i really need closed-back over ears. I love edm and hip-hop, but also listen to other genres, so good, deep bass is a must, but detail is important to. What would you recommend in this price range for my music tastes?
thanks so much for this review! your eloquence and specific comments really help me understand! also when you can, pls compare these to the new 700 pro X!!!!
I don't review anymore but I would love to get ahold of one of those. Sounds a lot more promising as a more proper successor to the DT 770 according to Resolve on the headphone show
@@metal571 oh man, your reviews are the best! will be missed! may i ask, why dont you wanna review anymore? would like to ask you -- in the open back planar magnetic world, do you have an opinion on the Hifiman Sundara vs the much more expensive LCD X vs Verum ( i want to use for mixing music in the pop, rock (alternative) and vocal acoustic covers of bands like radiohead, coldplay...... mainly, (i) is the Sundara close enough to the LCD X and thus better value for money as it is about 3 times less the cost (ii) Sundara vs Verum headphone thanks!
9:20 couldn't agree more. I love the sound of metal tracks with my 770's, but have been chasing a similarly smooth mid tone in all other competitors. Glad to hear this heads up re: the 1770!
I think one of the coolest midranges for metal would be the A900X. If you can find one used for around 100 bucks, that thing is an absolute joy to listen to metal on. That, and the X00.
I've owned a pair of these since early on and have a more favorable view than you seem to have. I would say the bass is a bit past neutral, originally I thought it was quite a lot bass (nearly overwhelming) now it sound ok to me (brain burn in?). Back when I originally owned the DT 770 also I didn't think they was a dramatic difference. i Did think the DT 1770 was a bit cleaner sounding (The 770 Where older maybe that played in to it). Not sure the sound quality was worth the price premium, though I could say that about many expensive headphones. These are built well and look soooo much nicer and more premium. Though I do like them, I agree they are not worth MSRP. Luckily mine where open box and I paid something like $450 - $475 for them (still quite a lot). My HE 500 are my favorites though and I got them used for $400.
My trick was that I made a small cut on the slit using some toenail scissors. As much as these are tight to fit, once they're on they are sure as hell on. I think with these headphones they have to "wear in" before they start to sound good. It's like a brand new engine in a car. Everything is tight. Once it loosens up a bit it seems to sound better. My question is though regarding the pads, have you ever tried aftermarket pads? I'm extremely interested because these seem a bit much after 8hrs of use. These are sure as hell tough headphones so the build quality is 10/10. I just think that more comfortable pads might solve my headache issues with this thing clamped onto my head like a vice.
@@B15HOP I use the original replacement pads on my 880 pro and 770 pro, they are really good. In your case I'd rather try stretching the headband out a bit. But do it carefully. Put them on some books over night.
@@ciousli I got them on. I just want more padding because these are so tough. A tight vice grip on my head eventually hurts after 8hrs. If I get some aftermarket pads I'll let you know.
Hi :) After your rewiew of the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80, i got them.... i own a Aune T1 Tube Dac, and i cant wait until the hedphones is here, its still in the mail :) you have great rewiews... Best regards from Norway
As ever you have covered this in wonderful detail, but I can't help thinking you are at odds with the general opinion of the headphones or you have a duff one. I use the DT1770 almost daily and I can not agree with your faults (it took a year and about 30 headphones to settle on this one for pro work - it is not my "listening" headphone - that's the visceral Blue Mofi). I find the bass VERY accurate, not just 200hz, as you described, (I record b tuned 5 string bass - a Dingwall NG2) and I can hear note definition all the way down to a detuned E. [ref: ruclips.net/video/95_hIVcZpXQ/видео.html] Hard to be in tune down there. I should say I am comparing these to Yamaha HS8 monitors which are not the finest but are totally reliable for a mix to translate to bigger or smaller things. I used to use the Shure 940 but although the bass was accurate on those it was light, so no confidence in mixing while out and about to get it 90 percent there (also the worst made shittiest plastic I've ever owned, and they break - Shure you are tits and the 1540 sounds all wrong). HD600 - no - not accurate, nor the 650. With the DT1770's I keep finding there is nothing to change in the studio after zoomed in eq on the guitars' 20 tracks - this is heavy music. I can sit in a pub and get a mix 99 percent there with the DT1770's. I never thought narrow band eq on a headphone would ever work, but it does on these. I find the mids perfect for distorted guitar work - 2.5k is as annoying on the dt1770 as it is on the HS8 or a silly portable speaker. I can Eq guitars on the DT1770 with total confidence. High end is clear and crisp - more than most people will ever hear, so for its purpose (a mixing/mastering headphone) It is absolutely spot on. I say this as a working engineer, using it as a tool not for fun. Once I'm done working in the small hours, I don the Blue Mofi for fun and what you might call a Marshall sound rather than a DI. I do notice the dip around 10k though so we agree on that, but it's not really an issue. The 6k I am not sure that's really a dip... maybe more what you're used to, maybe? Yes overpriced. £369 new on Amazon. Still too much. For what it's worth, Dale Thorn noted the DT1770 as one of the only headphones he'd ever used that required no eq. I think you have a bad one, mate. Your review is the only negative one I know of. The velour is not good. The pleather, which you used, is where they are wonderful. The old 770 has a massive hole in the middle and is only useful for ... well they are hard to destroy. Anyway, I love your reviews so don't let my disagreement get in your way. Peter. Edit : forgot to mention the supplied leads are not great - heavy and annoying and in the way all the time. I bought a 3rd party braided one. China (they're nearly all made there anyway) Sound is still ace. Listening direct out of Komplete Audio 6 interface on a 5k iMac. A little quiet for the DT1770 so sometimes driven by a much underrated NX1a amp just to boost output. It does colour it a little but not in a bad way.
I didnt read your whole reply, but I've been using the DT 1770s for a year+ now, with a Creative X7.. And I tried many before I landed on DT 1770. I am a closed back headphone person, so loving them.. Upgraded from DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm, easy upgrade. I remember loving my 770s, and a few months ago I tried using them again, and I was surprised how I survived listening to the 770s compared to 1770. So yeah, I am raising an eye-brow with this review as well, but people perceive sound differently and have different taste.. So it's not really possible to do a review for sound products that will fit everyone. However, the level of detail into the reviews are good.. Just if someone fixed their popfilter
would love a DT1990 review somewhere down the line. Considering upgrading from the K712. Can't seem to demo them anywhere, so your opinion is absolutely the next best thing.
Not a big fan. I used to have one up but my opinion isn't very useful because I didn't do a direct comparison to the DT880. Almost all Beyers just sound wrong because of their annoyingly sibilant treble, DT1990 included
The Beyerdynamic DT 1770 Pro have a great bass. LFE (low-frequency extension) is at 10Hz, which is excellent. Low-bass, responsible for the thump and rumble common to bass heavy music and sound effects is quite well-balanced. Mid-bass responsible for the body of bass guitars and the punch of kick drums is also well-balanced and within 1dB of our target. High-bass, responsible for warmth, is within 0.3dB of our neutral target. However, their bass delivery varies significantly across users, and is sensitive to the quality of fit, seal, and whether you wear glasses. The response here represents the average bass response and your experience may vary.
no, it's 5 hz to 40,000 hz. get your facts right if you're gonna write an essay about them!!! but that's the problem with the world right now, just talk, no facts!!
@@h-dawg6462 I didn't write it. I reposted from elsewhere to be helpful and show some answers. Please don't troll with something as meaningless as 5 Hz vs 10 Hz. Pointless argument.
@@bthellam yeah, and like i said that's the problem!...puppets! is 10hz the same as 5hz? is there an audible difference? i know the answer i'm just testing you!
Thanks for the incredible channel! This is how headphones review need to be. I have a question: how to protect and or repair earpads peeling of the synthetic leather? Any hints?
I brought the best out of these using the pleather pads and sonarworks set at 75% or so to bring in some highs. Also tube choice is big. Tubes: Any full low end tube can work well, like the svetlana winged c, rca, bendix graphite., for pre amp. I think they shine on a tube that has a bass and midrange emphasis. Try the Tung sol vt99 or vt163. I have a pair of 770s on the way to compare!
How do you feel this compared to the Custom One Pro? Which are less fatiguing and less recessed mids? Which is less sibilant? Which of them are better for classical, jazz, acoustic?
Great review. Not sure what Beyer was thinking pricing these so high. I'll stick to my DT 880 and DT 990 which covers all the bases for different music genres.
I have so many questions, what tests did you run to get to does conclusions? What programs did you use? What music titles? What file formats? What amp? At what volumes? Is this just your random opinion after listening back street boys on CD or there is more into it?
I found the 1770 sound real good, yet I get your spectrum on measuring with graphs/diaphragm ago-go. Waves are important and so the frequency detail is clean and the driver "chamber" space is plenty. While there is room for customizing, I think the factory setting is good. An EQ can be used with care too, generally using such cans as the 1770 grouping.... Thanks for the review!
EQ would be quite a lot more effective and more satisfying if the Tesla drivers had less grain though. But at least the tuning here is a lot less extreme in terms of treble peakiness
you should have some time marks for your videos so we know what you watch, I came here because I wanted to see the difference between these and 770, I am not sure if I have the time to watch all of the video and I am not sure if you say the difference
Hi, I've got the Sennheiser hd 380 pro and I still love them, they are King of isolation. I also agree with your review on those. Would these 1770 be an upgrade?
I had the opposite experience of your review. When I listened these through mojo, I swear there is that closest-to-sub woofer lower bass in these cans. I'm not a fan of impactful bass, like those explosion you hear in cinema with lots of boom, but I am more particular about lower extension and these have IT. That sub bass rumble(say 6-70hz and below all the way to 40hz) And that is the bass we should listen for. In music or any track, boomy bass is just bad and make everything muddy, where as extreme low end extension stretches your imaging, promotes the track to be holographic and the bassy instruments will "sit lower" in the mix(lower from a 3D perspective in a mix coz they have more energy and harmonics in lower spectrum.) and that helps instrument separation too. The only thing I found lacking with these phones is that obvious low mids scoop. But it is a necessity for a closed back because we tend to get more boxy sound with them and you have to take in account for that in eq. Even ether c flow has a bit of the same tendency. But it definitely helps in making it more "analytical" with reduced warmness.
Just bought the 770 pro 80 ohm version, couldnt be happier. Ty for the review on these 1770... Unrelated question, what is that desk mount? I have a boom arm but I want to Change my mic setup
So I own the DT 770 Pro for 2.5 Years now and I am normally very happy with it but I keep asking myself if it is worth upgrade it? Is it worth it when you except the prize and only talk about the sound quality? Can anyone say their experience comparing them?
It's odd that Beyerdynamic seem to have dropped the ball with these as the open back equivalent Dt1990 is excellent I think, even if it does still have the Beyerdynamic high thing happening. That said the build is superb and there is a real feel of quality to these models that makes most alternatives feel very low rent by comparison. And I always find Beyerdynamic headphones superbly comfortable. Both the 1770 and 1990 seem to have had a big price drop, for the quality and with the excellent accessories that are part of the package they are now very attractively priced I think. They do make the HD650 /660 feel cheap although many prefer the sound of the Sennheisers.
You and zeos were / are my main source for picking headphones, and based on your opinions i bought myself dt770 pro 80 ohm last month. I am more then happy with them, and i am using them with cheap usb soundcard on my laptop, i can only imagine how would it sound once i get some amp for it. I am looking to get fiio e10k for them, since it fits my budget and i don't have a lot of options here in croatia. But after seeing this review, i am more satisfied with my purchase of dt770, because all in all, when you look at the headphones and their performance, to me it looks like dt770 are better, but i know that those things are really subjective from person to person. Man i am happy that i bought them after seeing this :)
they are a keeping headphones for sure for me, specially because they are my first decent pair of headphones, and when i get fiio for them, that will be my first big step into audiophile world since i had before gaming headsets and onboard audio, this dt770 and fiio will be more then a decent upgrade from that setup thanks for the confirmation about the fiio being a good pair with dt770 cheers
You might consider getting FX Auidio DAC-X6 instead of FiiO E10K. FiiO is great (I have one) but offers limited power because its power via USB only, and because of that struggle with more demanding headphones. E10K can deliver 200 mW@32Ω and support up to 150Ω headphones while DAC-X6 amp section is powered from external 12V power supply it can give you 90 mW@600Ω, 180 mW@300Ω, 450 mW@100Ω, 610 mW@62Ω, 910 mW@32Ω, 1000 mW@16Ω. That little DAC-X would be way more flexible if you decided in the future you want something more then DT770 80Ω. Here is one from many sellers on Aliexpress pl.aliexpress.com/item/FX-Audio-DAC-X6-HiFi-Optical-Coaxial-USB-Digital-Audio-Amplifier-DAC-Decoder/32773743005.html?isOrigTitle=true#extend
well i bought 80 ohm version because i am planing to buy fiio, so that it can power them properly although that fx audio dac looks tempting, fiio is a better choice for me, since i know that i won't be changing these headphones for some time for sure (real life and future plans for family) fx audio i need to buy from alliexpress, so i risk customs fee with delivery, returning the device if it's faulty would be difficult , and it's quite big, and i am limited on desk space fiio i can buy from amazon uk or de, don't needs to worry about customs fee because i live in EU, and delivery is in EU borders, so no customs fee, i can power it from usb only, so i can use it with my phone if i need to / want to, and mainly i can easily stick it under my desk so that it's easily reachable so for me personally fiio is better option, just for the sheer easynes of buying and delivery, and i trust amazon more in product return situation the to alliexpress
If you are interested in baying FiiO E10K I could sell you mine. I live in Hamburg. New one is for ~80 euro+ shiping so let say 60 + shiping? I bought it on 12 June 2015 on Amazon.
Ether I completely agree with you. I've not found a single person who has listened to or owned both the 80ohm and the 250ohm and preferred the 80ohm 770. Boomy mid-bass, and an amp makes it even worse. If you go Beyer, stick with 250ohm and greater.
Hello my friend . I need an advice . I want to buy dt770 pro headphones, but I saw a discount, and there is an opportunity to buy 1770. I have two questions, does the sound differ much between them? and the second question, for playing games and listening to rap hip hop jazz music, is it a good choice?
Hello my friend i heared that you said in sonarworks headphones demo..but which would you prefer for closing back headphones ? dt770 250 ohm? akg k 361? akg k 371? or any other better?
I just picked up my DT1770s yesterday and, after some testing, I came to the conclusion that all positive reviews were wrong about the bass detail those cans offered and that you were actually right. A rather muddy and "generic" bass response indeed. But, as I was getting ready to feel sorry for myself and send them back, I thought it might be a good idea to switch cables, at least to be sure the cord makes no difference in terms of sound quality (during all my tests, I used only the coiled cable). To my complete surprise, I found that the straight cable was much, much better. The bass accuracy was greatly improved! (I listened to the same tracks, of course). So, metal, since you never used the straight cable, could this little detail (as crazy as it might seem) have affected your assessment? All that aside, I really enjoy your reviews (except the fact that you almost made me drop the idea of getting the 1770s ;)).
Have never been able to hear a difference between cables so no. The difference in bass and treble resolution was clear as day when I A/Bed this thing against the original DT770...
@@rusinsr Yes, a actually kept them. After burning those cans in, I'm pretty happy with them, assuming I feed them good quality (well recorded) music - kind of obvious, right? They seem quite "in your face" at times (as many reviewers pointed out). Not necessarily harsh in an unpleasant way, but "hardcore", as Z Reviews called them. I'm using them with a DarkVoice 336SE amp.
@@laurianmoga8708 Thanks for replying! Was trying to wrap my head around how these headphones could have so many positive reviews, and then a few negative ones that seemed to directly contradict a lot of the strengths others have mentioned. I just bought some DT1990s, and it was very obvious they needed to be burned in before they would even sound good. Thinking of replacing them with DT1770s though because I do wish they had more bass and less treble.
Hello. Audiophile newbie and really glad I’ve found your channel for some guidance. I have a question. I am about to buy my first proper pair of headphones. The Beyerdynamic 770 Pro 80 Ohm. Do you have an entry level DAC that you’d recommend for under $100?
I originally bought the Fiio K3 as a Dac/Amp combo for my DT 770 Pro 80 ohm, but for $10 more, you can get the Ifi Zen Dac which offers much more power and sounds even better than the Fiio. Ever since I bought mine, I've never looked back. If you do buy the Zen Dac, upgrade to the latest firmware (5.3C).
@@joshmiller804 Thank you so much! I'm currently using the Soundblasterx G6. But I think I know what my next pit-stop in the DAC world will be. Heard too many good things about the Zen to not give it a go. Appreciate the reply :)
A very simple modification makes the DT 1770 really 'sing,' so don't read too much in to this review. Remove ear pads and gently pry off the plastic ear pad retaining ring, remove the thick black driver cover, and re-assemble. Use the velour pads, forget the pleather pads. See the two ports on each ear cup? cover approximately 50% of the opening with something like blu-tack, plug the cans back in to your amp/DAC and enjoy the improved treble, mid's, and bass. Consider a pure silver cable as another upgrade option.
Hi metal571, The only measuring equipment I own is my ears! The simple reversible mod really adds clarity to mid's and treble without sibilance, and firms the bass up, leaning more toward a 'Sennheiser sound' if that makes sense?
Hi, I have a ATH-M40x and a HD 58X. I'm looking for a punchy headphone with good/great bass quality. Price around 200-500 dollars. Any recommendations? Thanks! Also happy 2020!
Great review as always metal! I was wondering, have you been able to audition ZMFs new line of dynamics? And do you ever plan on reviewing any electrostats?
I heard the Eikon recently and was mostly annoyed at the aggressive upper mids. Didn't really have any other impressions, not enough time spent with them. I totally love electrostats now that I've heard a few recently, including the 007 and 009. The only problem is as usual, getting my hands on a pair to review as they are super expensive. Someday I will add some electrostats to my collection as an alternative to my 800.
I’m looking to produce a lot of minimal edm focusing heavily on the low end frequencies. Can you recommend a good pair of headphones for accuracy regardless of price
Apples to oranges maybe, but which would you recommend the 1770 pro or the 1990 pro's? Soundstaging, imiaging, HI's, Low's...ETC...I'm unable to demo them. Thank you..
Hey man nice video. I have a pair of these. I was wondering which amp you would recommend to go with the headphones as I've read many reviews on various amps online but still unsure which one's to go with. Does anyone or yourself have any opinions on which amp to go with these headphones? Thanks :)
heard about these, heavily praised but expensive. sounds like they're not all that amazing either, if it's lacking detail in the low end. enjoying the custom studios here.
sorry for another question. which would be more value for music enjoyment . if you are making a choice which one you would select among this please. and suggest a good headphone amplifier from your experience.
+SHOBIN ZACHARIAS B&O H6 gen 2 is the most enjoyable for me. Very fun headphone never fatiguing. Schiit Fulla 2 will power it perfectly. Future proofing your setup would involve the Modi 2 Uber and Magni 2 Uber. The latter is my Schiit stack I use to do these reviews.
I have a dt770 250ohm. This headphone made me sell my hifiman he4xx and my sony ma900..which is on auction on ebay right now for 295 canadian, current bid lol. However I am glad to note that I dont need to upgrade to 1770. Does the 770 250 ohm have better bass than 1770?
IMHO Beyerdynamic dropped the ball on the DT1770 pads. They should have shipped with the DT770 pads, as the DT770 pads bring back the upper mids and the lower treble.
I never did think to try that, or swapping 1770 pads onto the 770. What I heard from this thing is just so much more loss of detail over the 770 as to make it a pointless upgrade
@@metal571 I'm revisiting this a wee bit, as I didn’t try the 1770 pads on the 770 and comparing the 1770, 770 (250Ω), and the 1990 with the analytical pads for a detail / soundstage reference (because why shouldn't I make this harder on myself. lol). The 1770 with the 770 pads brings the upper mids and the lower treble up, while also dropping the bass a little bit, which appears to increase the perceived detail. They also feel as If my ears have a bit more room to breathe. The 770 with the 1770 velour pads, does sound darker in the mids and lower treble, though not as dark as the 1770, with the 1770 velour pads… It also felt like there was a substantial increase in sub base, with the 1770 V pads. The 1770 v pads also felt stiffer, which made the clamping force feel stronger. As for sound stage and imaging, I think I have to rate it 1990 (A pads), 1770 (770 pads), 770 (770 pads), 1770 (1770 V pads), 770 (1770 V pads). The 1770 feels like the instruments are farther away from me, then they feel with the 770. The positioning also feels more defined when using the 770 pads on the 1770. The 1770 V pads, seem to do a disservice to both the 1770 and the 770, leaving them both sound dark. The mids and treble on the 770 with the 770 pads sounds more intense, then the mids and trebel on the 1770 with the 770 pads. All in all, if someone is interested in the 1770, or they think it feels off, I’d recommend they try them with the 770 pads, before they throw in the towel. As for the pad change system on the 1770 and 1990, I’ve found, that if you get the pad started, and keep a finger over the area where the notch is, it’s really easy to spin the pad on to the ear cup. Takes me maybe 5-10 seconds per side. Side note, I have a large head. 8 3/4 is my hat size. The 1770 fits my head better, then the 770. With the 770, I have to fully extend the sliders and even after that, I can feel the headband pressing on the top of my head. The 1770 I can use with the sliders at 1 notch away from their max extension on each side and they feel more like they are just resting on my head, especially with the 770 pads, which seem to have a slightly wider foot print, then the 1770 pads. Hi Metal. What headphone can you recommend for absolute bass kings? I own 6xx, 58x and modded DT770 Pro 80, powered by an NFB11-R2R (and i love them all for different reasons), but I'm not quite satisfied in the bass-department, when I'm listening to things like Trance, R&B and Hip Hop. Especially for Trance I would like to have Cerwin Vega 12" hardhitting kickbass :), but still fast and precise(not muddy), and still maintaining the precision and clarity in the other ranges. I know it would have to be a compromise between the ranges, but can you recommend anything for the semi audiophile basshead? :) Love your reviews! Regards Dan
Let me know it you find any headphones that go good for bass Dan am looking for some also but for bass guitar improvement. Bands like FAITH NO MORE red hot chili peppers, Primus. I want the bass to be so good and loud warm(3D) clear. Let me know if you find anything. :)
When I'm listening to trance myself it's always preceded by grabbing an Audeze LCD. Not cheap, but bass that fully extends to 10 Hz or below and is highly equalizable to preference with essentially zero thd is a pretty damn awesome thing.
I wouldn't be so sure. I have the Amiron right now and side by side with the HD 600 there's no comparison. Way better value with the 600 and cleaner sound
So out of all the headphones you've tried, which ones do you use/would recommend for a lot of gaming and music listening? Mostly Rap/EDM and some rock.
A phone wont be able to drive them at max volume or full potentional, no. 32 or 80ohm headphones are more meant for phones to drive, not 250. You'll need a dac.
Nah the kind of grain I experienced demoing these things is not something saveable through the much smaller changes by trying different amps rather than just choosing a different headphone
@@mara.records yep that's why I use it. Very neutral response large diaphragm condenser with a super low self noise without spending an obscene amount of money. Podcastage has a good review of it
Not sure what a compressed sound is like. So you would say that the DT 770 delivers more or same of the feeling, that an explosion feels like a slap in your face and sounds realy brutal? I had a 1770 here for a couple days and it did sound pretty brutal, more than any other headphone I heard before (and 3D sounds worked impressively well). If the 770 can also deliver that dimension of punch at it's pricepoint, it wouldn't make sense to get the expensive 1770 though.
hey metal, I currently have tesla T1 v1.0 plugged into a essence stx II soundcard. I'm considering upgrading to a bottlehead crack and schiit modi II uber. my question is, I'm a big competitive FPS gamer. will the tube amp negatively affect audio positioning accuracy? always enjoy your content. thanks.
metal571 cool, yeah I'm trying to tame some of that sharp 8k treble in the teslas by putting it through a tube amp. I haven't been able to find anything on how tubes affect positional audio for FPS.
@@metal571 Thanks So Much for the fast reply Im producing hip hop/rap Beats and track vocals so i was considering these would you recommend any other Closed backs that i could use for both producing and tracking or should i get a closed for tracking and an open pair for producing/mixing Im Really amazed my the fast response on such an old video i love your reviews
@@metal571 i had a look at the ones you said and also some other reviews for the dt 1770 and some Sennheiser review and do have an opinion on Joshua Valour as he seems to think the dt 1770 is the best bass he has heard and sonarworks rates them very high but the K371 Seems to be underwhelming from what I've seen I'm trying to be rude as you were the one that convised me to get the dt 990s but the cable on those were damaged and the sound was only coming out of 1 ear Imo they were amazing
@@NoahBirch I convinced you to get the 990? Can't stand that thing. Extremely sibilant, much too bright for me. Totally disagree with Valour on multiple headphones and my opinion on 1770 has not changed since this review. You can believe whoever you want since all of us reviewers have different opinions but my recommendation stands so now it is up to you whether to try the 361/371. The main guy I trust now is Resolve from the Headphone Show
I used to own a 770 and upgrade to a 1990 and been using it for 6 months, just sold it and i wanna go back to closed back cause id like to have more bass. my dac is ifi zen dac, would a 1770 be the way to go or the Sony MDR-Z7M2 would be good?
Metal, did you ever do a review of the dt 1990? I'm looking to upgrade my hd 599s and atm I'm torn between the 1990s and akg 712s. I know you're a fan of the 712s :). I have the zen ifi dac so hopefully that will be enough. As a side note I don't think i'm that treble sensitive and the headphones will be used for pretty much everything PC related, gaming music est est
At one point I did but removed it because I wasn't critical enough of them. Not really a fan of the 712 or 1990 personally but the former is what I would go with between them as long as you agree with my 712 review's sound description
@@metal571 Thanks man. I was actually leaning towards the 712s due to your review + I want a decent sound stage. Is there any headphone you'd advise me to look into at the £400-500 or under range? The only other headphone I was considering was the HD 880 600ohm but I assume I'll have to buy the zen can to power that. Oh and were you not able to EQ out the flaws of the 1990s like you were able to do with the 712s to a certain extent?
@@zqa20 not really, that's the issue, the treble peak is huge on the 1990, take a look at Rtings. Won't have such a wide stage but good imaging, much better bass quality, and much more neutral FR if you went Sundara, which is typically what I recommend in this range
@@metal571 Sundaras arrived this morning and they're awesome :D. The only downside to these is the sound stage is a little smaller than my 599s but I'm not an audiophile so that might be ignorant. Thanks for the help again and hopefully I don't run into any QC issues. Out of curiosity have you been able to use the Zeus headphones and what are your thoughts fi you have? They were on my radar but after mixed reviews I decided against it.
This is the second place I've heard someone complain about the sibilant highs on the 770's. The highs on mine (80 Ohm) are so recessed I was contemplating replacing them.
If your pads have flattened over time the headphone becomes actually quite upper mid heavy, the exact opposite signature from what it sounds like brand new. Us reviewers (retired in my case) don't make this stuff up randomly - take a look at oratory1990's GRAS measurement of the DT770 and Rtings' graph on an HMS HATS. They're sibilant when new with new pads.
Not accusing anyone of making stuff up. I had heard the 770's described as sibilant from more than one source. I was wondering why mine were sounding so dull. The pads were indeed flattened. I swapped with a set of Dekoni Elite's that I had sitting around. The sound was improved quite a bit though I still wouldn't describe them as overly bright. I might order up a fresh set of stock pads. Thanks for the pro-tip, and fast too.
@@JerryShugars no accusations indeed - just pointing you to the hard data as well. Changing pads to a 3rd party brand can cause a major change in frequency response, often not what the manufacturer had in mind. New OEM pads will get you the original sound. Part number is EDT770V. It's sad that I know that off the top of my head by now... have fun
Hello, I like your videos very natural and great attitude. I feel like I'm trapped because I'm a Beyerdinamic lover own a DT770Pro (80 ) thinking about and thinking about stepping forward. And I feel the DT 1770 would not be the right choice. Isolation is very important cause I would like to work in my own envinroment without making any noise for others in the room. Please let me know what would you suggest in a $500 price range, or just wait? :) Thank you, Akos
+Akos Letray B&O H6 generation 2 is an interesting step up. Still has plenty of deep bass but without the sibilant highs. That's what I use in the office now.
Brick and mortar headphone stores are almost nonexistent. I either buy stuff I'm interested in owning myself at this point from Amazon or people are sending me their stuff. I go to local meets when they happen, which is not very frequently.
Haha, I will have to try some at one point! Sending my DT770 80 Ohms off for repair tomorrow, when I get them back I now know not to amp them too hard with a crazy bass EQ xD Just gotta enjoy the neutrality of it and leave the crazy bass to V-moda and, if I ever get them, the JVC HA-SZ2000.
beatsh0t I didn't even see this lol. Finally got the M100s and with the XL pads, they're nuts. Constant head massage with certain music. Still haven't tried the legends though. One day I'll pick up a JVC. Also happened to hear the 1770s today and yeah, they're not worth their price. Still can't do sub bass loud and there's an annoying treble peak that comes out in certain songs. Not enjoyable for music, but still decent movie cans. However, as the 770s exist, I don't see why anyone would get the 1770s. I'd much rather get the Sony Z7s or even the MDR-1A - though the highs aren't really there, but at least it can go low and loud with virtually no distortion. Since the target is pro audio, the other headphones aren't really in the same market but I'm sure there's better ones out there for the pricepoint.
I would take this review with a pinch of salt, as this is not my experience at all with these (ones made in 2022 onwards, anyway). They have incredible detail retrieval, very natural sounding, but with amazing, detailed bass. Vocals are very present. I do wonder if they were tuned differently back then, or had a different batch. In comparison to the DT 770, these are a step up in detail and overall sound quality. Check it out yourself at a retailer with a good returns policy.
@@Nayah9 Dude, you have no idea what you are talking about. Better tuned? the 700 X aren't even better tuned than the DT 770, as they don't have the same bass quality, nor the treble clarity. The 700 x are only a step up from the 770 in terms of build quality, detachable cable, and comfort. They are NOT better sounding than the 770s. The fact that you are saying the 700 Pro X are better tuned than the DT 1770 Pro proves you have never tried the latter. No where near the detail retrieval, vocal presence or bass quality. They are in a different league in terms of build including the cup, headband, yoke etc are all thicker metal...
@@hunterjg777 You clearly haven't compared the 3 headphones. You're right, the 700 isn't an upgrade from the 770. But the 1770 isn't either. They are all differently tuned headphones. Just look at the frequency response curves and reviews. The 700 is almost identical in tuning to the 1770, just with a tiny bit more treble and the 770 has more treble and less sub bass extension. The 1770 is the warmest sounding of the 3. Much too warm for most people. The 1770 might be a little clearer but what's the point when treble is lacking and you can't hear anything over the bass anyway? There is no question that the build quality has been much improved on the 700 compared to the 1770. It's got the usual metal structure for strength, new curved metal yokes and hard plastic cups to make it 38g lighter. The earpads are now much easier to replace, thicker and softer. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they stopped production of the 1770 soon since it's probably Beyer's weakest headphone.
@@Nayah9 none of what you said has any basis in facts. How the headphones measure doesn't determine sound quality. It's obvious you have had no first-hand experience with the DT 1770. Again, the build quality of the 700 X is not on the level of the 1770. Plastic cups is not an upgrade over solid metal. 1770 has harder metal parts. The ear pads are harder-wearing Professionals who use headphones for professional use rely on the 1770, not the 700, and there's a good reason for that. The 700 can not compare to the 1770 for data retrieval. The 700 X are far too vague to be relied upon, regardless of how they measure - that does not determine vocal clarity, treble or bass clarity. With exception of the likes of DMS and this guy (not professional users) the 1770 have been and are still relied upon for professional mixing and mastering (accurately) for good reason, which can not be done with the 770, nor the 700 X. You'd hear the difference if you'd even tried the 1770. It sounds to me like it's confirmation bias on your end
@@hunterjg777 Actually I am a professional musician/guitar teacher who has been producing music for 15 years. You're a gamer from what I can gather. Even though many producers use the 700 Pro X (because yes, it IS a monitoring headphone), I returned mine not because it wasn't detailed enough but because I found the bass too overpowering (and I love bass). I'm not afraid to admit it. The 1770 however is the biggest bass canon out there and there's a reason you don't see serious producers using it. If you like your 1770, good for you. Keep it and have fun gaming.
See this is a problem because all I can really say is that the 1770 isn't better than the 770, but I don't know of any particularly good values in this price range either.
Actually, I was aprehencive about switching the pads at first. BUT, first time i did it it was a little hard but I didnt take too long to switch them. Its really not that hard to switch them.

Do you expect to review DT 1990 any time soon? I have been eyeing them for a while (they look so good!), but if the review for them would go as for this one, I would be very disappointed and sad :\
+Māris Samats I don't have them yet but could request a pair. Zeos told me that they don't have the treble peaks these or the Amiron has but I'm not holding my breath concerning detail because, well, Tesla drivers.
+brian falcone that's a good question. I would say no, especially if you are willing to apply some EQ to the 600. The Sennheiser is a lot more detailed than this headphone.
I felt the same way about the 770/80s. Even powered by FIIO or Topping amp. Wooly bass, mids were too thin. 880/250 Pro is the way to go in this series, for balance that is.
If I want to get some propper headphones without a mic, what should I buy in the $250 range and for another $250 what amp/dac? $500 total I got to spend, maybe 350 cans and 150 amp/dac? Hell I don't know. I come from some low end Logitech G930s, loved the wireless and the bass but everything else was less than meh. What can you suggest to get, I like boomy bass, I would trade some audio quality for that. I play the Battlefield games, racing games and need that roar of engine and vibration of gunshots and bombs. I listen to music genres like edm, dubstep, dnb and hard techno kinda stuff, so I like the kinda swampy bass or whatever you call it in contrast to the precise one I think, I still got a lot to learn but I want to see the wonders of audio quality.
Just watched your "Massdrop x Fostex TH-X00 Ebony Review - Ultimate Listening Enjoyment" video. You make them sound like they would fit me what do you think?
+CrowleyPlays yeah those would do very well actually. Buy mahogany or an ebony. Purpleheart is less refined sounding. If you think you're gonna be buying more cans in the future, get a Modi 2 Uber and Magni 2 Uber stack. If not, just buy a Fulla 2. All of this is made by Schiit audio. Enjoy
Sorry for my late reply and thank you for yours. Now I've got a problem getting a hold of Fostex TH-X00's and Schiit's stuff. It's not available or way overpriced everywhere I look. I'm from germany and maybe you can offer me european alternatives on german amazon (amazon.de). Now heres another thought. Maybe get something from beyer, what about 770's,880's or 990's, which one of them has the boomy bass I'am looking for and what ohm version should I get, they reach anywhere from 32 to 600 ohm. Maybe a dac/amp from fiio or someone else. I don't know you can keep digging for days and wont find an answer for your needs, test hearing isn't an option because I don't wanna test amazon's nerves when it comes to returns lol, thanks in advance.
@@s0nv0kadin Don't know if you made your choice, but i'd take my advice in to consideration: I tried the DT 1770 Pro about 5 years ago, and although they were good, I returned them. I tried them again recently, and they are beautiful sounding and I am hearing the kind of detail in music I have never heard before, amazing clarity, perfect for vocals, and great bass. I don't know if something has changed recently, or if they were once a poor batch of these headphones. It's worth trying them from a retailer with a good returns policy.
am thinking to get these 1770 pro purely because i like the design/look of it the best. havent decided yet if these or dt 770, maybe hoping someone will reply with some random comments that might help me decide.
I get extremely few comments like that so thanks for taking the time to write this
@@metal571 No worries, you are the man with the bionic ears I swear! K371 balances everything in the mids
@@metal571 Thx, will take a look at ur review of them. Cheers and all the best and keep safe.
metal571 thank you again for your review of those they are indeed spectacular.
Thanks, sticking with my 770s.
Ryan Lackey Hey just wanted to ask, they talk about sibilance in regards to beyer headphones. Is this a huge problem I don’t like harsh treble in which case should I stay clear.
@@azhar6857 if you dont like harsh treble stay away from dt770

Same.
Thank you for saving us money, so many other reviewers want us buy the DT 177X now.
It's even worse than the 1770. Avoid
@@metal571 How so?
Sent it back quickly after getting a unit in for eval and potential review because it looked to me like a front-damped, low impedance version of a 1770. Front damping a driver does pull the treble down but literally veils the sound and makes detail worse because of the physical barrier in place there, and we were already starting with a worse sounding driver here from the 1770 so...
@@metal571 Ah, I see. Thank you Sir.
I like to think most of that is my superb Rode NT1
I'm about to get this to compliment my 1990 but changed my mind after watching your review. Thanks!
Grab a DT 770 80 ohm if you want a different Beyer flavor
The DT1770 is an interesting case. Casuals love them, audiophiles dislike them. As a producer looking for great headphones to use when producing while traveling it's very hard finding decent cans when the opinions are so varied.

My HE 500 are my favorites though and I got them used for $400.
trick for switching beyerdynamics ear pads: use a hair-dryer on the new pads before putting them on
My trick was that I made a small cut on the slit using some toenail scissors.

Hi :)
After your rewiew of the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80, i got them.... i own a Aune T1 Tube Dac, and i cant wait until the hedphones is here, its still in the mail :) you have great rewiews...

Thanks for the great review. I was planning on buying these until you got to the bass part (I also listen to a lot of edm)
I really enjoy your reviews: you got me sucked in the audiophile world. And your guitar covers are cool ;)
Agreed I love mine, lovely detail and clear bass.
would love a DT1990 review somewhere down the line.

Thanks for the incredible channel! This is how headphones review need to be. I have a question: how to protect and or repair earpads peeling of the synthetic leather? Any hints?
Great to see another review from you. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the Amiron Home!
How does the DT177x compare or is it the same?
i fucking love you metal, i fucking love you
Great review.
I do have 18 minutes.
This was created before that new-fangled YT feature with the timeline having sections, haven't gone back and updated any of these yet
Hi, I've got the Sennheiser hd 380 pro and I still love them, they are King of isolation. I also agree with your review on those. Would these 1770 be an upgrade?
Thanks for this honest review 😎
What's that "mojo" you mentioned?

Just bought the 770 pro 80 ohm version, couldnt be happier. Ty for the review on these 1770... Unrelated question, what is that desk mount? I have a boom arm but I want to Change my mic setup
So I own the DT 770 Pro for 2.5 Years now and I am normally very happy with it but I keep asking myself if it is worth upgrade it? Is it worth it when you except the prize and only talk about the sound quality? Can anyone say their experience comparing them?
Love the inclusion of EQ in your reviews! Mind sharing some for HD800 ; )
I will probably do a second video on the 800 now that I own one and include the EQ in there but I could also post it here if you want to try it

metal571 Absolutely nailed that 6k peak down, cheers!
It might be a little extreme for some people so feel free to tweak from there
It's odd that Beyerdynamic seem to have dropped the ball with these as the open back equivalent Dt1990 is excellent I think, even if it does still have the Beyerdynamic high thing happening. They do make the HD650 /660 feel cheap although many prefer the sound of the Sennheisers.
nice review. nice to hear review from actual audiophile.
E10K is a great amp for the 770s. If you like them, keep em. This is a downgrade in clarity. Enjoy.
they are a keeping headphones for sure for me, specially because they are my first decent pair of headphones, and when i get fiio for them, that will be my first big step into audiophile world
since i had before gaming headsets and onboard audio, this dt770 and fiio will be more then a decent upgrade from that setup
thanks for the confirmation about the fiio being a good pair with dt770
cheers
Here is one from many sellers on Aliexpress

well i bought 80 ohm version because i am planing to buy fiio, so that it can power them properly
although that fx audio dac looks tempting, fiio is a better choice for me, since i know that i won't be changing these headphones for some time for sure (real life and future plans for family)
fx audio i need to buy from alliexpress, so i risk customs fee with delivery, returning the device if it's faulty would be difficult , and it's quite big, and i am limited on desk space
fiio i can buy from amazon uk or de, don't needs to worry about customs fee because i live in EU, and delivery is in EU borders, so no customs fee, i can power it from usb only, so i can use it with my phone if i need to / want to, and mainly i can easily stick it under my desk so that it's easily reachable
so for me personally fiio is better option, just for the sheer easynes of buying and delivery, and i trust amazon more in product return situation the to alliexpress
If you are interested in baying FiiO E10K I could sell you mine. I live in Hamburg. New one is for ~80 euro+ shiping so let say 60 + shiping? I bought it on 12 June 2015 on Amazon.
Got to demo these and did not like the sound signature in general. DT1990 is a lot better. I even think more affordable DT770 80ohm is still the pick.

250ohm 770's in my opinion are better ^^
Ether I completely agree with you. I've not found a single person who has listened to or owned both the 80ohm and the 250ohm and preferred the 80ohm 770. Boomy mid-bass, and an amp makes it even worse. If you go Beyer, stick with 250ohm and greater.

Hello my friend . I need an advice . I want to buy dt770 pro headphones, but I saw a discount, and there is an opportunity to buy 1770. I have two questions, does the sound differ much between them? and the second question, for playing games and listening to rap hip hop jazz music, is it a good choice?
What do you think about the pleather pads on the 770's? Are they still sharp and sibilant? How much of it is reduced compared to the velour?
Hello my friend i heared that you said in sonarworks headphones demo..but which would you prefer for closing back headphones ? dt770 250 ohm? akg k 361? akg k 371? or any other better?
So in your opinion DT 1770 pro are not good for sound mixing, right? They don't have flat response, correct?
Rock on metal, good review.
I'm not questioning your findings, just trying to understand why the DT1770 you reviewed behaved the way it did.
Did you give them time to burn in? Assuming you kept them, what do you think about them a year later?
I replaced the headband padding with the headband padding from the MMX 300 V2 and that made it the perfect headphones for me
What headphone has the detail of say a DT770 with more punchy aggressive detailed bass?
A very simple modification makes the DT 1770 really 'sing,' so don't read too much in to this review.
Remove ear pads and gently pry off the plastic ear pad retaining ring, remove the thick black driver cover, and re-assemble.
Use the velour pads, forget the pleather pads.
See the two ports on each ear cup? cover approximately 50% of the opening with something like blu-tack, plug the cans back in to your amp/DAC and enjoy the improved treble, mid's, and bass.
Consider a pure silver cable as another upgrade option.
+GEORGE M cables... lol. But anyways just curious if anyone has measured this mod
Hi metal571, The only measuring equipment I own is my ears!
The simple reversible mod really adds clarity to mid's and treble without sibilance, and firms the bass up, leaning more toward a 'Sennheiser sound' if that makes sense?
Which headphone is the best for studio that writes classical music and needs good instrument separation and true soundstage?
Would like to hear what you think of the T5p second gen - I just got a pair second hand and quite impressed although the comfort is not so great.
Can you recommend a good pair of headphones for accuracy regardless of price
hey quick question what amp/dac would you recommend for these cans? also do you know if zmf alpha pads etc can be used with them thanks in advance !
Apples to oranges maybe, but which would you recommend the 1770 pro or the 1990 pro's? Soundstaging, imiaging, HI's, Low's...ETC...I'm unable to demo them. Thank you..
1990s definitely overall better
From what I’ve read the 1990’s are unable to be balanced, true?

What's the best closed back under $800?
How about the Focal Elegia or Final Sonorous VI
Note, I didn’t try the pleather pads, as my ears tend to get really warm, when using headphones with pleather pads.

Love your reviews!
Would be exciting to see a review of dt1990. Hoping an upgrade from hd600/650
I would say the HD 650 does pretty much everything well
Would an LG V30 with the quad DAC drive these things? Thx
they have a tesla driver which needs less power than normal drivers. so even a normal smartphone would drive these easy.
A phone wont be able to drive them at max volume or full potentional, no. 32 or 80ohm headphones are more meant for phones to drive, not 250. You'll need a dac.
Yeah but the LG V30 has 3 different amp modes.........including a High Impedance mode for up to 600 ohm-rated headphones.
I believe the v20,30,etc are designed to go up to 600 ohms so you should have no issue.
What kind of headphone amp? I have a Little Labs Monotor. Any chance that will help with speed issue?
Nah the kind of grain I experienced demoing these things is not something saveable through the much smaller changes by trying different amps rather than just choosing a different headphone

How does the punch compare to the dt 770? You say it's a less defined bass, but does it punch more? Like on explosions and similar.
No, dynamics are compressed
Not sure what a compressed sound is like. So you would say that the DT 770 delivers more or same of the feeling, that an explosion feels like a slap in your face and sounds realy brutal? I had a 1770 here for a couple days and it did sound pretty brutal, more than any other headphone I heard before (and 3D sounds worked impressively well). If the 770 can also deliver that dimension of punch at it's pricepoint, it wouldn't make sense to get the expensive 1770 though.
Yeah that's what I was trying to get at here. A direct comparison made the 1770 sound relatively slow and muddy

my question is, I'm a big competitive FPS gamer. will the tube amp negatively affect audio positioning accuracy?

Honestly I'm not a huge amp guy so not sure what that would do to the soundstage. Usually tubes just add pleasing harmonic distortion.
metal571 cool, yeah I'm trying to tame some of that sharp 8k treble in the teslas by putting it through a tube amp. I haven't been able to find anything on how tubes affect positional audio for FPS.

No just stick with an 80 ohm 770
@@metal571 sadly i've already sold the 770 a long time back and just sold the 1990 hahaha not sure what close back to try around this price point
There really isn't much, maybe the Aeon 2 Closed but that's way more expensive. If you can try open give the Sundara a shot
Please make that video on EQ-ing. Where did you get the G. Freeman t-shirt? I want it! :)
Found it on amazon.
Lol yeah, amazon. And the EQ video is on the list to make
Metal, did you ever do a review of the dt 1990?
@@metal571 I'll go with the Sundara then. Saves me £70 compared to the 1990s so that's a nice bonus.
ty
It's sad that I know that off the top of my head by now... have fun
Will do. Thank you much for the part #.
Thank you, Akos
+Akos Letray B&O H6 generation 2 is an interesting step up. Still has plenty of deep bass but without the sibilant highs. That's what I use in the office now.
:) Thank you for the suggestion. Do you live in Lala land? Trying to find some places where you can A/B them in real life.
Brick and mortar headphone stores are almost nonexistent. I either buy stuff I'm interested in owning myself at this point from Amazon or people are sending me their stuff. I go to local meets when they happen, which is not very frequently.
"...you can taste the cymbals and the high hats" :') xD
Liked for the review, but I loved that bit!
+Halomaster4ever electrostats are pretty ridiculous so I'm not even exaggerating lol and thanks
Halomaster4ever the JVC are goooood asf, the bass in the vmoda is so moody, i have both and the vmoda is just "dj marketing"
beatsh0t I didn't even see this lol.
I'd much rather get the Sony
Z7s or even the MDR-1A - though the highs aren't really there, but at least it can go low and loud with virtually no distortion. Since the target is pro audio, the other headphones aren't really in the same market but I'm sure there's better ones out there for the pricepoint.
Try the X00 if you want to upgrade from a 770 or M100 with dat bass
Have you listened to the focal Elear? What are your thoughts on them
+TheFijianGuy I have but unfortunately it was such a short demo that I don't have any accurate impressions sorry.
In 2022, I wonder why anyone would get these over the new DT 700 Pro X which is better built, better tuned, more easily driven and cheaper.
The ear pads are harder-wearing
Professionals who use headphones for professional use rely on the 1770, not the 700, and there's a good reason for that.
Sir,if for the similar price of the 1770, which headphones would be more better to reproduce the original song track?
Thanks a lot !
See this is a problem because all I can really say is that the 1770 isn't better than the 770, but I don't know of any particularly good values in this price range either.
If compared with shure 1540 ,Sony MDR 7520 , pioneer DJ HRM-6 & ATH M70X?
I haven't heard any of those that's the issue here lol
Pleather is actually the analytical pads and would decrease the bass non EQd
Actually, I was aprehencive about switching the pads at first. BUT, first time i did it it was a little hard but I didnt take too long to switch them. Its really not that hard to switch them.
Do you expect to review DT 1990 any time soon? I have been eyeing them for a while (they look so good!), but if the review for them would go as for this one, I would be very disappointed and sad :\
+Māris Samats I don't have them yet but could request a pair. Zeos told me that they don't have the treble peaks these or the Amiron has but I'm not holding my breath concerning detail because, well, Tesla drivers.
Are this an upgrade from hd600?
Hey i just brought this, and now I just see this review…
What could you recommend,?

@@s0nv0kadin price is not an indicator of sound quality
@@s0nv0kadin Don't know if you made your choice, but i'd take my advice in to consideration: I tried the DT 1770 Pro about 5 years ago, and although they were good, I returned them. I tried them again recently, and they are beautiful sounding and I am hearing the kind of detail in music I have never heard before, amazing clarity, perfect for vocals, and great bass. I don't know if something has changed recently, or if they were once a poor batch of these headphones. It's worth trying them from a retailer with a good returns policy.
@@hunterjg777 I ended up swapping them for the 1990 pro, with the conclusion that I thought the low range was for prominence.
Thank you, thank you!
Your glasses arent destroying pads? I have that problem and i dont use glasses with headphones. :(
Haven't had that issue actually
am thinking to get these 1770 pro purely because i like the design/look of it the best. havent decided yet if these or dt 770, maybe hoping someone will reply with some random comments that might help me decide.
I currently have a dying qpad qh1339 headset which i believe is a rebranded beyerdynamic mx330 or something and i think i want something that sounds somewhat similar or better to what i alredy have. I mostly just use it for gaming and edm style music plus a lot of youtube videos so a lot of talking.
im not a sound person but i want something that lasts me 5years+ and sounds good but i cant specify what good means cos idk tbh
i basicly have no idea what you mean when you talk about lows highs treble and any of those things. i couldnt tell from this review if you think these or dt770 is better
