  • Welcome back to the final part of my adventure at Ardeo Sport Horses! In this video, I'm heading back to the yard where I first met, and bought my horse Wilma, last year. As we continue our journey behind the scenes, I'm rolling up my sleeves and getting stuck into the day-to-day activities alongside Neil and Mel, the passionate owners of this family-run business.
    Join me as I lend a hand with exercising the horses and gain a deeper understanding of how the yard operates. Neil and Mel's dedication to matching riders with their perfect equine partners is truly inspiring, and it's clear to see the care and attention they put into their work.
    In this episode, I have the amazing opportunity to ride four more beautiful Irish horses, each with their own unique personality. As the day unfolds, I find myself forming a special bond with one of them.
    I take a ride on a green Connemara who has just arrived at the yard. Plus, we head out for some cross-country schooling to see firsthand how they produce top-quality event horses. It's been an exciting experience, and I'm eager to share it with you all.
    If you missed part one of this series, be sure to check it out to see how our adventure began. And stay tuned for more exciting content coming up on my channel, including Wilma's arena eventing debut.
    As always, your support means everything to me. Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe to join me on this incredible journey. Let's keep the adventure going together!

      My mom was perpetually adopting cats when I and my younger sister were young. We always had between 5-7 cats growing up. But of course we would always find another adult cat or kitten that we would fall in love with, and we would always try to convince Mom to adopt them by saying “ Oh, we have so many that Dad wouldn’t even notice a new one!” 😂 It actually worked a few times, and it would take our dad a few days to even notice the new feline in the house. 😅

    • @margauxnodvin7478
      @margauxnodvin7478 11 месяцев назад +1

      Agreed! These videos have actually made me want to travel from the U.S. to Ireland to buy my next import from Ardeo. It is SO hard to find honest horse sales people who truly care about the horse and want to match the correct horse to each rider’s needs! Sadly, I’ve had to deal with some incredibly shady people over my years of buying horses, who don’t disclose important medical or behavioral information, or who just push you to buy a horse which doesn’t suit you bc ALL that they care about is making a profit off the horse. They don’t give a crap what happens to the horse after they’ve pocketed their money (often from horses that have been misrepresented to the buyer and marketed at a ridiculously high price which isn’t warranted for the inexperienced, very green, often unsound horses they are trying to sell). I recently leased a 5 yr old Irish Sport horse. Despite him being WAY more green than advertised, acting insane at competitions with full bucking and rearing episodes, having to be heavily tranquilized by a vet every time the horse needed to be shod or examined by a veterinarian, AND having arthritic changes show up in the x-rays taken when he was 5 and I did a pre-lease exam and just basic x-rays (which the horse’s owner was made aware of), the owner STILL had this horse priced at $200k!!! My vet flat out told me NOT to buy this horse, as she felt that with his early arthritis and some confirmation issues, that he would break down and become unrideable within a couple of years. Which the owner was also told. Who in the world would spend $200k for a horse that has those health issues AND is so green that he is JUST learning to jump 2’6” courses, doesn’t have a consistent lead change, has a hard time staying straight down a line of related fences, has NO show record, is a NIGHTMARE for the farrier and the vet, and who has tried to buck my trainer off at a show, spooks non-stop at shows, has bucked with me after landing off jumps while schooling at home and WORST of all has a tendency to rear when he gets upset! The first time he threw a tantrum he didn’t just rear with me, he reared AND leaped into the air, did a half twist in mid-air so his hind feet landed a good meter away from, and at a 90 degree angle from the spot he’d taken off from! He did an actual capriole, as the Lipizzaners are trained to do in the Spanish Riding School (with no rider). The combo of the rearing and leaping straight up into the air, then doing the half turn spin mid-air caused me to be flung off into the ground. When the horse finally brought his front hooves back down to the ground, he missed stepping on me by mere inches. The scariest part of this was that the horse exploded with NO warning! Usually a horse will tense up, or raise its head, or start jigging around a bit before pulling a stunt like that. Not this horse! One second he was walking calmly in the arena on a long rein, cooling down after a schooling session, the next second the horse went airborne while whinnying at the top of his lungs! Hes 17.2 h too, so it’s a long way down. No WAY am I going to spend $200k on a horse that rears when he has a tantrum (he reared with me again out of nowhere during my last ride on him before I sent him back to his owner). The owner was informed about the horse’s dangerous habits on the ground and under saddle, yet they are staunchly insisting on the $200k purchase price for this horse!!! If anyone is crazy or ignorant (or misled by the sales agent, as I was for the year-long lease I did) enough to spend that much money on such a problematic horse (both behaviorally and soundness wise), I feel very bad for them. I also feel bad for the horse, as this is clearly the type of owner who will use the horse up and make as much $ as possible off of him before he breaks, and then just send him off to an auction or kill sale. NO compassion or caring for the horse whatsoever! It’s disgusting! But that is why seeing how Ardeo conducted their sales business is such a breath of fresh air!

    26:16 this was such a neat blink-and-you-miss it moment! Horses (like people) commonly hold a lot of their tension in their jaw, and the new mare did look a teeny bit tense/unsure but Charlie gave her a good rub under her head and she then immediately licked/chewed (tension release). It's exactly the same psychological effect as a friend rubbing your back. In the moments afterwards, even though she still isn't 100% sure her eye does soften a smidge, she "unfreezes" a little and then lowers her head for bit. ♥ Don't know if he was consciously aiming to reassure her but it doesn't matter, it says volumes about how good he is with horses 🥰
    ETA: awwww bless her, she perks right up once she's going over some jumps! She's like "ooh! I know this job!" hehehe what a cutie
    ETA2: Actually AMAZED at how accurate Tina is over XC jumps, she doesn't over-jump AT ALL, she nails the heights perfectly wow wow
    If I wasn't all the way over in New Zealand I would so be interested in getting my next horse from there!
    I think this might be one of my favourite videos from you Meg, cheers for bringing us along!!

    Wow Meg. Great video. Great riding. Keep that 4yr old colored gelding in mind for Tina. Some more miles and he could be Banksy's brother. Great video.

    Beautifully put together vlog Meg with epic filming Pete, as always you rode brilliantly. How lovely you are able to support Ardeo like this, a successful family business which will hopefully benefit from the increased traffic now, with all your followers behind you! I know where I'd go if I was in the market for a quality horse :)

    You looked great! Very good job. I've just recently found your channel and started watching you. I watched the Icelandic trip and loved it. Love your personality, you're very engaging and fun to watch and so great to ride these strange horses and do it so well. Best wishes from Australia xo
