It's fine to say that not many people who are not tech enthusiasts care about 120Hz, but that shouldn't give any right to Apple to charge $600+ for a screen that is 60Hz, whereas no other brand does that. It's not expensive to create a higher refresh rate display.
So, by no means I would call it a tiny feature, and cost cutting is not justifiable reason to do it.

120Hz for most of the consumers is irrelevant, on tablets, phones and PCs.
If give the consumer the option 120hz display or better camera, most of the consumer gonna choose the better camera.
And, 120hz doesn't doesnt make a display good, color rendering , viewn angles, are most import.
Most of tech youtuber keep bitching about the 120hz, but apple make iphone 15 (non -pro) and ipad and ipad air for normal joe. They don't care about that.

Exactly. Unless you are a power user, the Air makes the most sense today for the vast majority of us. Then, again, if money is no object, choosing the top of the line is always defensible. As for software enhancements to come, if the current Air is outmatched we can always update at a reasonable cost. Except for my phone, I use my iPad (it is a Pro 2d generation) , Magic Keyboard and Pencil more than an of my other devices for work and home. It is certainly the device I enjoy using the most. So, my recommendation, if you want to keep costs reasonable to some degree go for the Air 11” with 256K storage and accessorize as much as you can.

It's easy for tech enthusiasts to get upset about 60 hz but most people don't care. I had two friends recently who were looking to buy a new phone and I was providing advice and I told them about 120hz and they were like "what's that" so I showed them and they didn't care at all and made their purchasing decision completely ignoring it. I personally wouldn't buy a screen (computer, laptop, tablet, phone etc) that has less than 120hz but some people just do not care at all and for them it makes more sense to get the cheaper product. I personally would buy the iPad Pro for the better screen (120hz but also brighter, deeper blacks, quicker response time etc), better speakers, LiDAR, and extra power for gaming and video editing. Sure it's expensive but after a week of owning it you will forget about the cost and just enjoy it. It also means that you will be happy with it for longer and you will last more years before feeling the need to upgrade. All that said, I won't buy one. I have a 15 Pro Max and an M1 Pro 14" MacBook Pro so I feel like a tablet is just an unnecessary extra device in the middle. Cool, but unnecessary. I was looking at the CPU and GPU benchmarks out of interest and this new M4 iPad is about 40-50% more powerful for single core, multi core and GPU performance than my M1 Pro MBP. That's just crazy. Amazing how fast Apple is pushing the boundaries of performance in fan-less devices.

I’m definitely thinking of getting the iPad air, but as has been said continuing with 60hz is silly in this day an age. There are cheap android tablets that have 90hz displays so it should be no excuse. It’s obvious they’ve done that so people will spend more money on the pro models. It’s the same with the iPhone, they can bring the dynamic island to the 15/15+ but not the 120hz refresh rate? Really?

people don't seem to realise that the huge power isn't necessarily for right now, its to future-roof the device. That M4 iPad Pro should last 6 or 7 years no problem, meaning it will still be able to handle power intensive apps well into the future.

      @-S-JM 11 дней назад

@@misx80you know that you can change the battery ? It’s not that expensive and you don’t buy an iPad to use it for only one year, it’s better to buy something with a lot of power since who knows, maybe it the futur like in 2 years that power will be needed
And that 60 Hz is ridiculous, tbf it’s because of this that I’ll buy the pro and yeah the pro power isn’t needed today but maybe the pro need it for idk what reason, I just hope that thing won’t overheat the iPad which can make it easily bendable
Or you can also buy the air and upgrade it when the next iPad Air is released but you waste more money
Well I don’t know your budget, it’s up to everyone which iPad they want to buy, the pro annoys me because in France it starts at 1219€ (11’), it hurts to buy it so I’ll wait a month tilI decide which to buy

I mean you kind of can do that by having 2 apps in Split View and then a floating app that you can hide and bring into view as needed but having 3 apps on screen seems pointless. Apple offers cutting-edge technologies, yet seldom integrates them comprehensively into a single product. Instead, they often blend older tech with newer advancements to maintain profitability. For instance, the absence of features like Face ID and OLED across their entire product range is perplexing. Additionally, ensuring uniform adoption of technologies such as M4 and WiFi 7 would enhance user experience, rather than the current practice of tiered integration with last-generation components.

60hz on the iPad Air isnt a deslbreaker, but its outrageous that apple still wont provide consumers on what is essentially a 6 year old display tech on its affordable iPad models, and doing everything in their power to make it a bit more worse than the iPad Pro, so that people buy the more expensive option. Its like getting less of the apple experience as you go lower the asking price of the top spec model
Not to mention, the iPad will NEVER become a Macbook replacement, while costing just as much with all accessories combined, due to how much apple nerfs its iPadOS, and IOS 17 has been a terrible experience, with even my M1 iPad pro stuttering while browsing on Safari, and ridiculous battery drain on both the iPhone and iPad.
