One thing I noticed Ren do during this performance is using his right hand to be expressive, but also as a way of controlling when the other guitarist starts and stops. At one point he was waiving his arm around as he was singing, but he then moved it into a closed fist and stopped moving his arm and the closed raised fist us universal for "Stop" we used it in the military on silent patrols, and as soon as Ren did that the second guitarist stopped. In the very beginning when Ren started "Out in the streets they call it Murder" Ren moved his arm in a way that signaled the other guitarist to start playing. It's so genius of him to add that element that most people won't pick up on. Awesome reaction as always!
I Cannot get over how he can pick a different melody (the Dr Dre bit!) over another melody (his song!), while Rapping so Fast too!!! People have no idea just how difficult that is!!!
I love this version. A little Reggae, Hip-hop, and some blues thrown in. I love how he so openly shouts out his musical infuences. He's a creative genius on top of being a great singer & musician.
🥂 for the algorithm. As always, much ❤ from 🇨🇦! I love his need to create, and then re-create. Improving upon his former successes and pushing his own limitations to new higher highs and greater horizons.
Some people have a gift for remembering the things they hear. I have a fifteen year old granddaughter that memorizes music from very few listens. She memorized Eminem’s Rap God from three listens to it. It’s unbelievable to me!
What a stunning live performance. Pleased you did this one as it shows how he can make his own song even better. Lovely reaction. Singing and playing an instrument is beyond me as well.
Here's the salutes to the 🎵 greats that I picked up on when Ren nods to his musical influences. Ren's giving homage to Barrington Levy & also Damian Marley's "Welcome To Jamrock" in his new opening (Out In the streets they call it MURDER) . Ren's guitar solo was an homage to another one of Ren's musical influences Django Reinhardt. Reinhardt was one of the most famous Jazz guitarist who; if I'm not mistaken, was actually the 1st person to bring Jazz to the UK. IMHO that was very much a 30-40's Jazz riff reminiscent of Reinhardt's music. Ren also gives homage to Dr. Dre with the guitar riff after the solo referencing Dre's song "Next Episode" ft. Snoop Dog. BTW the "Beotch" change was a nod to Snoop who was the 1st to coin that phrase 😁. This was all shot in L.A while he was taking a break from his medical treatment in Canada.🤯 💖 Cheers ✌
I hadn't seen it yet, so I thought I'd watch it with you! It's great with that LA backdrop. Not sure why he was there, but this was so nice. The changes were fun. I don't know how he does it, either. 😊
Speaking from experience, if you play and sing at the same time you've normally gotten one of them to the point that it's muscle memory. For me, guitar and singing at the same time means the guitar gets practiced until it's muscle memory so I can focus on the singing part. On more than one occasion I've started thinking about my playing in the moment and it's screwed everything up.
That totally makes sense. I've never learned to really play anything (except clarinet in 8th grade band class 🤣) I can see how you'd get used to it enough to just be on auto pilot.

I think maybe musical people process words in a different way. I can't really explain but my eldest daughter has played the piano since she was 6 years old, she's now 33 and she cannot listen to music and read at the same time and I have always presumed this is because she processes the 2 things in the same part of her brain. Whereas most people can tune out the music to process the words. I wonder if this is why musical people can remember lyrics in the same way a musician remembers all the notes in a long piece of music. Just a thought.
Interesting. That makes sense honestly. Altho, I can't read and listen to music at the same time... it's a bit overwhelming. Or if I'm talking to someone and the TV is on...I need it paused or I can't concentrate on the conversation. But that might be for a different reason. I love music, but I can't play an instrument. I think if I had been taught early on (I REALLY wanted piano lessons as a kid) that I would have picked it up quite quickly.

It's definitely better imo. The world needs these acoustic versions. Get in the studio already.
What a great job. Barrington Levy opened with his Murderer at the Uprising Festival this year. Did Glasto too. Good on him.

He managed to write & memorize his diss track in 2 days (unless he had lyrics taped up somewhere that I didn’t notice)? 💜

He's so well versed in music...I thought I recognized something... the Dr.Dre bit, but I wouldn't have been able to place it.
You're right when can walk and chew 1,000 watts of bubble gum at the same time
About that playing guitar and singing, first thing comes to my mind is John Mayer's (mostly acoustic) songs😄

Yeah he did this in LA whilst he was getting his stem cell treatment that's why he's still got on the hospital band on his plucking hand
He was in LA to meet execs from streaming companies. The wristband is an entrance band for a concert he was at the previous evening.
Yep, Ren said he was having a short holiday as a break from his treatment, so it wouldn’t be much of a holiday if he was having stem cell treatment.
His stem cell transplant was years ago wasn't it?
@@MrsRealistic Yes, Ren had his stem cell transplant 2016 in LA.
@@ZombyWoof69 Right... so this video that is new, is definitely not when he had the stem cell transplant. 😉
